Branson Talk / Re: Breakfast-
« on: February 01, 2015, 03:11:27 PM »
Depends a lot on which way we go home and how big of a hurry. Sometimes the picnic table at the campground. Starvin Marvins is pretty popular with our group for their breakfast buffet. If going through Branson West, sadly it's McD's. Sometimes we just skip it and stop for lunch on the way home. We've never tried Billy Gails but every time we are staying at Wilderness or Compton Ridge it looks busier than all get out on Sunday mornings.

I've seen the 1970's one before, but not the other two. Good finds, thanks for sharing!

Branson Talk / Re: Baldknobbers: Reality TV??

At least the Robertsons admitted from the very beginning that the premise of each show was a predetermined idea/storyline.  They prefer to call it unscripted, instead of reality

I missed that part of it. I don't recall seeing that anywhere on the show, not saying there is not a disclosure there but as far as I could tell we are supposed to believe this is real.

They have said it in interviews, but not on the show.

My mistake. I did not read carefully enough and thought we were still talking about Baldknobbers. Did not see "Robertsons". Apologies.

As far as the Baldknobbers are concerned, I would be embarrassed to know that people would be thinking I actually acted that way.

Thank you. That's the feeling I've been trying to express and couldn't quite get the thought together.

I am thinking if you want them to fail for selling thier soul then you want the following to failalso.

The bearded duck people sold out to reality TV.
The American Picker guys sold out.
Pawn stars sold out to TV.
Anyone who has ever been on a show like Dancing with the stars, Amazing Race , survivor. All sellouts
American idol contestants. I guess Carrie Underwood sold her soul also.
Old worn out Child TV stars like Barry Williams sold out their soul.
And the list goes on and on.

Have not been to the Baldknobbers in years , but I bet they are up to par with most of the same type show. They are just trying to survive in today's world and using the current way available to do it.

I did not mean selling their soul just by being on television . Duck Dynasty, DWTS, American Idol, etc.do not have the exaggerated drama, infighting, jealously, bickering, backstabbing and other nonsense that these alleged reality shows do. I have seen all of those at least once and none were nearly as trashy as Branson Famous or even close. I was talking about how they willing to take the television carrot even if it meant doing and acting in a fashion they normally do not under the guise of "reality".

Since I don't have pay TV, against my better judgement I bought season 1 (all 5 episodes so far) on Amazon Prime and watched them all last night. What complete trash. I knew very little of the Mabe family before this. I know they were the first show in Branson but that was about it. We have been to Baldknobbers before, although it's been a while, and thought it was ok, nothing special but your typical hillbilly show. I know this is heavily scripted but I have next to no respect for them now and I'm not sure if it's because they actually could be this dysfunctional and petty or because they would lower themselves to this level and pretend to be that for a quick buck. I don't know what kind of attention they were expecting to get from this, but I can assure you I won't go there again. A part of me feels sorry for them that they thought this is something they needed to do to raise some money while at the same time I'd almost like to see them fail just to see what happens when you sell your soul for a dollar.

What I mean by that is Branson should not sell its soul to attract more visitors. There is a demographic out that seeking "family values" type experiences and that is the demographic that Branson needs to be targeting.  Keep the shows rated "G" and relevant at the same time.

I completely agree.

I'm 40 and I have 3 kids. We like fishing and camping and hiking. All things I can do in the Branson area, without even setting foot in Branson unless I want to. Maybe I am the "lake of the Ozarks" crowd.

No you're actually not, because if you've ever spent much time at LOTO you will see that statement #1 contradicts statement #2. There is very little "family" anything left. There is still some nature, a very nice state park, a couple of caves, a token go kart track or two and that's about it. Everything else is either a bar, restaurant/bar, marina/bar, or condo.

I am in that demographic (for a few more years anyway) and I actually like the shows. I have also been to PF/Gatlinburg a couple of times and aside from the Smokies themselves and Ripley's aquarium I don't see a ton of difference between there and Branson. I agree that Branson should focus their attention on the younger crowd, but from my perspective they already do a pretty good job of it. I live about 15 miles from Lake of the Ozarks, go there every day to work and if you could find more than a half dozen things for a family to do there that didn't require a boat I'd be really surprised.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Season pass ordering problems

I finally was successful. On my lunch break I called the 800 number while at the same time started the online ordering process-again. 18 minutes later, someone finally answered which also happened to be the same moment I clicked "purchase". This time it worked. I told her what I had been going through. She was very nice and apologetic (I realize this is way out of her control) and said that right after Christmas there was some problem with credit card verification in Missouri and that now it's a last minute rush to order. I did not get into what the excuse was for the three weeks in between that it wasn't working either. She did check to make sure my order processed and I thanked her and said goodbye. As to the questions asked: I have never tried using any version of IE. I use Firefox on my PC. I also tried ordering using my iPad and iPhone using Safari. I'm pretty sure it was not on my end. I called multiple times, either getting a fast busy, a busy, an intercept recording, or a message telling me they were closed. I'm pretty sure someone has mentioned this before (I know it wasn't me) that this would be soooooo much simpler if I could just renew my passes from this/last year. To my knowledge no one's gender, birth date or address have changed.

That's what I thought too the first 4 or 5 times I tried it. It's now been almost a month and about 20 tries with no success. I've also done this every year, the same time of year for 7 or 8 years now and have never had this problem before.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Season pass ordering problems
« on: January 27, 2015, 06:57:25 PM »
Has anyone else had trouble with the website to order season passes? I first tried right after Christmas before the price went up and some of the vouchers got taken away, and kept getting an error message "we're sorry your order did not process, please call 800-xxx-xxxx). I called the number and either got an intercept (not working recording) or a fast busy. I tried two or three different credit cards over several days on several different computers with no success. I tried again shortly after New Years, when the price went up and some of the vouchers went away, same story. I tried again last night, same "we'rehe  sorry your order did not process" crap. I called the number again, and finally got through but got a recording telling me ticket office was closed.I'm trying to buy 6 season passes. I was going to buy WW/SDC combined, but after this nonsense I'm about to give up. Last night I tried just ordering SDC stand alone (I have tried this before) with no better results. I'm sorry but their e-cart system SUCKS. Each time I go through this I have to put in all 6 names, addresses, birthdates, etc. and ends up being a 15-20 minute process that gets me no where. I work during the day and really don't have the time to call during their business hours of 8-5. I keep getting emails telling me the vouchers are all going way January 31. I'm going to try this one more time, and if it fails again I guess we won't be going this year. I realize 6 passes is not a big deal to SDC but to me the $800+ is a considerable amount and I would really have expected (and usually have got) better customer service than this.

If this has already been answered (I went back a few pages and didn't see it) I apologize, but can I ask why you are cleaning it up? I'm assuming it's not opening up again, but is something else going on there, or is this just a community service type project? And would you mind posting a link to your FB pics? If not, perfectly understandable.
Thanks

WOW has been "under construction" for about 10 years now and if that's part of their aquarium plan I won't be holding my breath for one there. I agree that they probably do seem the same but where is a another one close to the Branson area, or even in the Midwest in general?
