Other Parks / Ober Gatlinburg
« on: November 28, 2011, 05:58:15 PM »
The Alpine sled thread prompted me to start this thread. It's been a few years since we visited, but I thought it was a wonderful place. Anyone else been there? Not a huge park, but they do have indoor ice rink, snow skiing in winter, alpine sled, chair lift, arcade, and an aerial tram that takes you up the mountain to the park. Love to hear from anyone else that's been there. I've talked with several folks who've done the Smokies/PF/Gatlinburg tirp, but not many are aware of this place.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / BAF's being replaced with "guest pass"
« on: November 03, 2011, 05:29:25 PM »
After some speculation in another thread about this, I asked about this on their Facebook page today:

Quote from: Silver Dollar City
Thank you for asking David! The 2012 Season Passes should be available for online purchase by Saturday, November 5th. And yes, the new "Guest Program" that is in your November Times is replacing the past "Bring-A-Friend" program. We look forward to seeing you in 2012!

This is how they are described on the back page of the Times:

Quote from: SDC November Times
Season Pass holder must accompany guest & present pass, photo ID and matching voucher valid during the correct date at any ticket booth to receive your FREE guest ticket

So I'm guessing they are actually going to start keeping track of who is using the free tickets. Sounds like the passholder will actually receive vouchers that have to be exchanged for actual tickets at the park. I really wonder how much thought they've given to this considering what it's going to do to the ticket booth lines. For example, we buy 6 season passes and frequently take 5 or 6 people with us to use the BAF's. Now, according to their instructions, all 6 of are going to have to go to the ticket booth, show our ID and season pass, give them the voucher and get the actual ticket one at a time. Take that x the number of pass holders each year who use baf's x the 5 different date ranges they are available and it sounds like an absolute disaster waiting to happen at the ticket booths.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Frequently seen citizens
« on: October 21, 2011, 06:15:07 PM »
Besides Terry Sanders and the "oooo-weee" guy at GE, do you all seem to see some of the same people every time you visit the park? Naturally you'll see some of the same citizens from time to time, but for instance I can not think of a time we've visited the park and not seen this girl:

Anyone else?

SDC Memories/ Park History / Front Turnstiles
« on: October 19, 2011, 01:15:59 PM »
I don't think I asked the question correctly on another topic.
My question is, if this has always been an exit, as it appears in your photo why are there turnstiles there? As for the hand stamping there is someone sitting by the exit to OM. She wasn't there this past weekend, but we left right before park closing. The last time we were there she was there. I'm not sure if she stamps your hand or does something with your ticket. She always asks if we are coming back, but its a moot point for us since we're season pass holders

Branson Talk / Any other Peterson's 4WOR readers here?
« on: October 13, 2011, 07:54:18 PM »
Just got my latest issue with the 2nd part of Ultimate Adventure coverage. For those that don't know, this is a 4 wheel drive enthusiast trip where each year they pick one part of the country and hit several off road parks in the area. When traveling they do their very best to avoid interstates and stay primarily on side roads with lots of roadside stops at various attractions/unusual locations/places. This year it was in SW MO, NW AR, NE OK and SW KS. There's some great shots of that part of the country with a couple more notable being one of Beaver Bridge across the White river (with a bunch of 4wd trucks on it) and a small write up about Bluff Dwellers Cavern near Noel, MO. Part 2 isn't up on their website yet since the print version just came out but as soon as it is I'll put the link up for it. In the meantime, here's the link to pt. 1.

To be honest, I didn't know Branson was named after a sherrif. At any rate, anyone know anything about this property? I meant to mention this last week when I saw the auction bill but didn't get around to it. Looks like it's sold now. Any locals got any insight?

What is the connection to SDC? If any of you have ever played around with a gis map, you can find out a lot of information. Probably more than we need to, but a lot of the SDC property is listed as being owned by these two entities.

Branson Talk / Shepherd of the Hills review
« on: June 04, 2011, 04:01:02 PM »
Saw the show last night (Friday). Unbelievably great! Even my teenagers and 5 year old loved it. Only disappointment was the theater was probably only 1/3 full on a Friday night. Spent a little time chatting with the cast after the show, got some autographs and visited with Terry Sanders for the 3rd time this week! (that guy is everywhere)LoL! He did a great job as Doc Coughlin btw.

Does anyone know these folks? I know Dean died last year or year before but was wondering if Vinita, Jeff and Susie are still around.

Anyone have this book? It's a bit pricey on Amazon so I would like to know if it's a worthy read before I buy it. Rube, perhaps?

I'm trying to find where the places mentioned in the book (Compton Ridge, Mutton Hollow, etc) would be located today. I think Compton Ridge is pretty much hwy 265, right? What about the other places? I'm looking for the actual topographical features.

Branson Talk / Red Roof Mall

Anyone been here lately? We went over Easter weekend, and what a shame. I would be surprised if it's at 30% occupancy. I know the economy's bad but where did all the stores go? I used to love this place, the courtyards were beautiful (still are) and the 70's styling really got me. It's much more ascetically pleasing than say, Tanger with a parking lot surrounding a box. May seem silly, but it's kind of sad to see the old place turn into a ghost town.

So last weekend I picked up the DVD. Watched all 6 episodes and really enjoyed them. What really took me back was how well Shad Heller performed his parts. I thought I had read somewhere once that he was an actor at some time, is that right? He certainly seemed to be confident in his acting and very professional. I loved all the local references also; fishing Taneycomo or Table Rock, Jim Owens, getting kicked up Dewey Bald, Yellville, AR etc. Even if you're not a big BH fan, I would suggest picking up the DVD for some great older footage of the park and its past characters.
