"I've been on Baron. It is short but sweet and the pre-show is nice. Efteling is an incredible park with immersive theming throughout. Go there if you can."

I think Symbolica makes a great template for a Grandfather's Mansion dark ride.

I was upset when both the Float Trip and the Diving Bell were replaced by less themed replacements. Today those replacements are looked on as classics. Every generation attaches memories to these points in time, and the same will go for the experiences that SDC will replace the current batch with. Lossing FITH is tough because it is our attachment to our past, but these are personal views for each of us. I will be sad if the mine goes soon, but I have my memories for the rest of my life, no different than the ones of the lost ones I rode them with all those years ago. Everything changes. There is no future otherwise.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Dickens characters fired?

Not to speak ill of the dead, and I did like Brad Shrader, but I often spoke out against his love of Jukebox Musicals. Before his time, many SDC shows had a lot of original music. I wrote one for the Hatfield and McCoy talent contest in the Riverfront Playhouse. D.A.Calaway wrote several, and other SDC entertainers did as well. They also contracted original songs from outside writers. Everyone knows the FITH theme, the Flooded Mine song, and such. Those have survived and are memorable and unique. Do we really need to be doing Muppet Treasure Island? Seems lazy to me. Sorry about the rant. Pet Peeve.

If you look at a map of the city before the train was installed, there was a nature trail that went down to Lake Silver. and along the trail was a building listed as a haunted house. I asked Jack and he said it was only there for one season, but ended up on the wrong side of the track opposite where the saloon is now. It sat there for years as the Butterfield Hotel (Closed sign nailed over the door) and was a hangout for the early Saloonies. It was removed when Deepwoods was developed. I have no other info and have no idea what the haunted house contained.

I'm not sure it can. That lineshaft equipment was 100 years old and hard to find. If there is a way to salvage the equipment, they will rebuild it. The average wait time on custom furniture from there was 6 months. It was a profitable business. This doesn't mean it won't relocate to another area, however.

Please forgive me if I've come off too strong with my comments. I'm not really the "Bitter Old Guy".  After 40 + years in the theme park industry, It can be disheartening to see the things you love die from lack of interest. Society is changing faster than the first drop on Outlaw Run, and there is little time to react much less stop and look backward. Being a realist is what I learned from Jack and his son Bruce. They don't get overly sentimental over what has been. That doesn't mean you don't honor it and think back with fond remembrance, but the reality is that people react differently as society has opened up more possibilities for them. Whether good or bad, it just is. The challenge is to learn how to present something that will touch an emotional button that will cause them to put down their phones and really take in something new around them. SDC sill has this power and I'm doing what I can to help. I know you all are too, in whatever way you can. You can't bring back that magic from the past, but you can help guide the magic that is now. O. K. I'm getting off my soapbox now....(he shuffles off mumbling to himself....)

The attention span of guests.  In the past, you could do a street show and have hundreds of people watch for 15 minutes or more. Now you cant get then to even come in close enough to commit. That's why the crew has to use mikes now. People today are too bombarded with media every day so when they come across an event like a street show or a musician or anything else not presented on stage with music, lighting, and costumes, ie "Spectacle", it fails to register as "worth my time."  This may sound cynical, but honestly, that's the real reason there aren't more craft demos as well. You cant bring back the old SDC because the culture has changed. Jumanji cant stay a board game.

Being an old float trip fan, I've never liked the plunge, to begin with. Having confessed to that, The plunger is a sad ghost of its past. The cave is now just a concrete culvert, and the whole thing just looks tired and rundown. with a big drop on Mystic River, this is going to seem dull in comparison.

A thank you to all who visit this lonely dusty fringe of the forums, and to all who hold the memories.
I, for one, am grateful.
