I was looking through some old SDC photos and found these two from 2004.

Miss this part of the train ride!

SDC Memories/ Park History / Re: Favorite "spots" in the city

I’m a midtown fan. Especially Carrie’s Candles and Sullivan’s Mill. One of the first things I like to do is go into the candle shop, see what’s new and have a smell. Then head over to what is probably my favorite building, the mill. I love walking in and smelling the grain and bread baking.  I wasn’t happy that they redid the area where the bread is baked. I loved the old Hoosier cabinet and old time utensils.

I love all the little details in SDC, especially in the older areas.

I have one of the Duplicating Lathe but have been told that the person in my photo is Luther Taylor, sorry.

It's a lighter breading, not that really heavy like those giant tenderloins you typically see

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Any Breaded Tenderloin fans out there??
« on: September 19, 2012, 12:32:41 PM »
A few years back, probably our last trip as a family during the summer, we ate at Hatfields and had the tenderloin and tators.   Oh,  so good!!

The next visits were during Christmas, and we always tended to eat somewhere where we could eat inside, so I haven't had a tenderloin since then.  But everytime I walk by, I'd drool and remember how wonderful they were.

So our last trip, I decided not to eat at Hatfield's (really afraid the tenderloin wouldn't live up to my expectations!) But, when the Mine Restaurant turned out to be closed that Sunday, and when we walked by that area heading into Thunderation,  and noticed the smells and pleasant seating area, we decided to have a tenderloin.  It was as good as I remember!!

Anyone know what the breading is?  I've made hand breaded tenderloins before, using cracker crumbs, but the breading just doesn't feel or taste like cracker crumbs.  I'd like to find a similar recipe and try making them at home.
I just need some opinions on what the breading is

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Woodcarvers

I too loved the hillbilly figurines from the old days.  I could never afford them back then ( not sure I could today either!) but I did take a couple of photos, so I can at least remember them.  Last weekend when we were there, I bought a little carved figurine in the new Woodcrafter shop.  It's about 6 inches high and is a "Ozark Baldknobber"  It's done in the style of the old hillbilly figurines and was very reasonable.  It's probably as close as I'll get to one of those.

Over the years, I've bought a bread board (I assume it was from the Woodcarvers, I've had it for ages), one of the axes and a log carvings (which I saw was still in the shop last weekend) and a carved Santa face ornament from several years back.

I always liked the carved mantel's but never really considered one for our home.  But when I see the one in the Culinary and Craft School, I want one!  Matter of fact, anything I see in that school I want.  I think it was a good thing for them to build that school and decorate it with items crafted in the city.  I never really wanted pottery other than my doily pie plate I have, but after I was in that building, I had to get myself a vase from the Pottery Shop and put an arrangement in it.  I also never really cared for the blown glass, now I love it and while I haven't found what I want to buy yet, I spent quite a bit of time watching them demonstrate last weekend and have a whole new appreciation for blown glass, and can't wait to add a piece to my home.

I have to tell you all how much I enjoy being able to talk about these long gone features to someone!  As much as my family enjoys Silver Dollar City today, everytime I walk by something and say, "the School used to be here", or "The Taffy Shop was here", or "there used to be a little doll shop in that corner of the Hotel" they just kind of roll their eyes and keep on heading to Wildfire!

I feel validated when someone understands how I feel about how things used to be!

I've got a couple, but they are typical late 70's instamatic camera quality. I can see that there is a cave instead of a wall, but I cant see inside to that little entryway.

It's not real convienent for me to scan right now, but I hope to post sone shots I have of areas that arent there anymore.

We've been at SDC the last couple of days ( weather has been beautiful!)

So, I made a point to take a look at the Springhouse.  Yep there was the water feature.  But help me out, didnt it once kind of look like a cave as you entered instead of the wooden wall?

Branson Talk / Re: Mutton Hollow

I always loved to go to Mutton Hollow.  Since I've always had an interest in Quilting, I always liked to go to Amanda's.  Think I've got a picture of it around here.  I've been working on digitizing some old slides I took in 1983, and I have a handful of Mutton Hollow pictures.  I always liked things related to Shepherd of the Hills, and was surprised when Mutton Hollow disappeared for a stinkin amusement park.   I can't believe they just let some of those SOTH artifacts just go like that and not renovate them.  I have been to SOTH since my late 80's trip.  Always had the kids along from then on and just didn't think it was worth all the money when they weren't that interested in that kind of thing.  Wondering if it's changed much that I wouldn't enjoy it as much as I did.    That late 80's trip, we took along our first video camera, a big honking thing, and I have video of the tour and all the street entertainment they had at that time. (moonshiners and a medicine show)

Thanks, I'm pretty sure that's what I was thinking of!  Glad to know it exists.  I'll have to keep my eye out for one.  I think I probably had one, but not sure where it ended up.  I think the one I have now is dated 1981.  I also found a Pathfinder from 1982, and a receipt for tickets in 1978, when the price of an adult admission was a whopping 7.95!  I think that year was my second trip when I started to become a real fan of the park and took pictures and kept stuff.

Thanks for pointing me to the photo.  Can't wait to see more of it someday

Since my last couple of trips have been during Christmas, and if there isn't water, I assume it's weather related.  But just wondering, is there still a little waterfall going into the Springhouse restuarant?  I used to think that was the neatest little entryway, and always wanted to eat there in the old days.  It just doesn't seem to be the same these days.

I don't really have anything overly rare, or hard to find, but I always like to shop at SDC, and lately I've spent some time on ebay to see what I can find.

A few things I love, the old early 80's SDC picture guide, my map from 1981 that I finally framed and have hanging in my home.  Years ago, I bought a cast iron corn stick pan that I love, though I have issues making the corn sticks! I have a doily pie pan that I use quite at bit.    I also have some of an old SDC card playing game that I like, because I like that old artwork they did in the 80's to depict  SDC attractions.  (I recently picked up the coloring book on ebay, with the same artwork)
I

One thing I wish I'd gotten years ago was those adorable hillbilly carvings they used to sell in the woodworkers shop.  I have pictures, but I never felt I could afford them then.

Of course I treasure all my pictures, from my old, old late 70's snapshots, to my present day digitals!

Speaking of park maps.  Was there an old map that showed people walking around in the park?  I have an image in my head, the people were kind of characterized. I keep my eye out for one, I'd like to see it again if it exists.

I sure hope the food quality doesn't go down, that's another thing that makes Silver Dollar City so wonderful.  Since we are also a Disney family, we have always felt that Disney food is way overpriced for "meh" food.  And there's only a small annual pass discount on a few places.  Silver Dollar City's food has always been very very good (and part of why we get excited to come!) and reasonably priced, and the season passholder's discount is nice.

One of my favorite desserts was always the Strawberry Pie at Big Jack's.  But the last few times we've been there, it's been during Christmas and strawberries are out of season, so we haven't had any in ages.  Are they still serving the pie?  We're heading down next weekend and just wondering if I should even check.
