General Silver Dollar City Talk / Waterboggan
« on: March 06, 2010, 08:41:54 AM »
Did anyone foresee that the Waterboggan was coming down?

Did the park say anything about it to the general public coming down before shutting it down for the season around labor day last year?

White Water Discussion / NOTHING NEW in 2010
« on: September 24, 2009, 01:53:52 PM »
I went ot WW on the last day of operation.  Sorry, I should have posted weeks ago:

First of all:  is WW stupid or something?  ( A.)  It is just too dumb that there is no signage at the bottom of Bermuda Triangle's hill stating that the  ( B.) height requirement has changed in the last month of operations.  I know of two rides that changed during the season and it is a little rough for a six year old to swallow that he could ride something in June, but cannot ride it in September because after years of operation, the ride suddenly could not be used by people under 48 inches.

With that said:  the operator of Bermuda Triangle told me that the slide would be used in the 2010 season and replaced in 2011.  He said that there would be no changes in 2010.

Other Parks / Buying Big Splash = Demise of Zingo
« on: August 25, 2009, 10:25:33 AM »
Today, the Big Splash water park is selling season passports for $25 in celebration of next years 25 anniversary.  I was about to buy some passports and then started to have second thoughts.  Didn't Big Splash have something to do with Bell's Amusement park's rent going through the roof?  If they did play a role in closing Bell's, should I be getting season passports to that water park- even if it is filthy cheap?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Assumptions
« on: March 05, 2009, 11:02:02 PM »
I see that there are a few new show, but I'm concerned about what my five year old is concerned about:

What happened to the Balloon Ride and Carosel?  Are they being moved?

I'm assuming that Tom Salyers Landing is closed?

Has the "swimmin' hole" been worked with?

Other Parks / Magic Springs
« on: April 03, 2008, 12:59:54 PM »
I was reading something that was referred to on Screamscape and thought that the writer had come to an interesting conclusion about the ownership of Magic Springs.  Kentucky Kingdom was owned by the same people who now owned Magic Springs.  Anyone who's been to Kentucky Kingdom knows that T2 is one of the nastiest and roughest coasters ever built.  Unfortunately, as a first-time experience, I heard a few people say that T2's design was better than Batman. Okay. . .I'll concede that . . . at first glance.  But if you ride a Velcoma inverted ten years later you would also agree that they are rough and terrible.  Thus the question, why in the world would you build the exact same model of roller coaster in Magic Springs if you have first hand information of how painful that ride will be in ten short years?  Gauntlet might still be a good ride, but how much longer?  Surely the Arkansas heat will depreciate it faster than normal.

Other Parks / Cheerleading Squad At Six Flags
« on: March 19, 2008, 10:04:07 AM »
Over at Screamscape, they're reporting that Six Flags is putting together a cheerleading squad that will travel to the different parks and do cheers and stuff.  The Screamscape editor did not seem very thrilled by this.  I guess I beg to differ.  Six Flags is trying their darnedest to give people a reason to return to the park.  They're messing with ideas such as fireworks, super-hero parades, some pretty good shows, Tony Hawk Tour, Concerts, and now Cheerleading Squads.  This new idea could work.
I was flipping through the ESPNs a couple of Sundays ago and the cheerleading national championships were on.  I kind of liked it.  It may not be enough to actually draw me to the park, but it may be enough to give me an extra sense of connection to the park once I am there.  Example:  I still remeber watching craftsmen put together a pavillion that took no nails during a festival at SDC.  Was it why I went to SDC?  No.  But it was interesting and it has stuck in my memory as something interesting that I saw one time.  If I was at Six Flags and saw people being thrown around and turning their bodies into explosive formations, I could see it as something that would stick in my mind as interesting.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Royalities For Ride Designers
« on: January 09, 2008, 01:20:58 PM »
I was looking at a picture of King's Island's Vortex and was thinking of the artistry of a coaster.  Some coasters are so well designed that people would petition the park threatening to tear a ride down.  Other coaster are so poorly designed that riders ask the park to tear them down and try agian with the new space.  I wonder if parks have multiple year contracts in which they are required to pay roylties for certain rides that are specifically designed for a park.  For instance,  does SDC pay yearly fees to B & M  for Wildfire?  The more I think about it, I think caster designers should receive long term rewards for coasters that stand long term.  I think that it would make sense for a coaster designer to receive royalities after it has been standing for ten years and has proven itself.  In my world, royalties would only be paid on one-of-a kind coasters.  No Batmans, Boomerangs, or hypers w/ multiple shared characteritics would be rewarded.

Other Parks / Magic Mountain
« on: October 23, 2007, 11:15:51 PM »
I always hate discussions like the one I'm about to start.  Please understand that I am concerned and pray for the million people displaced by fire.  I understand that homes are being burned and that is, of course, more important than a theme park catching on fire.  With that said: I saw online that the California wildfires were within sight of Magic Mountain.  Is the park still standing?  Using yahoo, there are pictures of fire approaching Magic Mountain in 2002 also.  That is so wild.  Humanity is so close to danger in California.  I guess we had the ice storm, but those storms are so rare.

Other Parks / Poltergeist is Not Looking Good

Poltergeist looks terrible.  This photo is supposed to be of Batman, but I noticed Poltergeist looking rusty:

Other Parks / World of Fun New Ride
« on: October 11, 2007, 01:50:31 AM »
As of two years ago, the speculation was that Worlds of Fun was looking at building another woodie for the 2008 season.  But. . .with all the action over at Guena Lake, this rumor is getting put to bed. . . at least I would think.  The rumor that replaced it was that GL's floorless coaster might possibly be coming.  But that rumor was replaced with the idea of the floorless coaster going to King's Dominion.  So what would that leave Worlds of Fun with for 2008?  I know that WOF will announce soon, but does anyone want to put their bet's down. Here's my guess:  a flat ride from GL.

I know that at least one other person on this site has posted at worldsoffun.org so this may be of interest.  The forum could get dicey- I found out my first time posting three years ago. Even though it was a place of strong opinion, it was fun.  Overthe past six months, the site was virtually shut down by spammers.  The site's organizer's asked people to write in and apply for a password.  I tried to get a password and never heard back from them.  I noticed that there have been three non-spam postings over the last month inwhich people are asking if anyone's planning on responding.   I assume that the site is totally crashed.  Does anyone know if the site is finished off?
