Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC's 2023 Project(s) and Park Developments
« on: March 19, 2022, 08:57:04 AM »
Was at the park yesterday, shocked at the state FITH was in. Most of the ride was completely devoid of any sound or noise. Track was the roughest ever, my kids compared it to the Screaming Eagle or Ninja as far as how you feel after. Sad and shocked to see FITH leave this way...

I was pretty shocked by the condition of the ride this past weekend. Music was almost completely off, allowing sounds to bleed over in scenes. As an essential piece of SDC history, and really one of the few family rides left in the park, would love to see it get some love. SDC is really lacking on family style rides.

Hate to say it but wow was this a huge disappointment! They should change the name to Rudolph's Selling Merchandise Town! Meet n Greats were terribly handled. We just joined the line (5 minutes) to see the characters when all the sudden they closed it! We were fine but the families in front who had been waiting 20-30 minutes were understandably upset. One of the workers response was well we can't please everyone! For a few minutes I thought we were at Six Flags! Half the space was Meet N Greats, the rest was a Rudolph merchandise location and over priced games. To say our kids were underwhelmed was an understatement. Apparently Santa wasn't selling enough merch because he has been kicked out back.

Branson Talk / Re: The "What's Wrong With Branson" Mega-Thread

Branson's problem is simple, they have abandoned the middle and upper class families. Everything in Branson seems to be targeted to the lowest tier, from hotels to restaurants. Look at the hotels on the "strip", if you are looking for a nice upper tier hotel, your options are slim. Try finding a healthy place to eat!

So what is the future of the train? Has anyone heard anything? This seems like a great time to just simply make it disappear amid the excitement of a new ride. I think losing the train would be a major blow to the park but it seems as if little by little they are chipping away at it.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Thoughts from the Parks
« on: November 15, 2010, 09:44:21 AM »
Just wanted to post a few thoughts and observations from the parks this past weekend.

We have visited the parks on the weekend after Veterans Day for about 4-5 years now.  This year the park and Branson in general were quiete. Not sure if the cold snap helped or what the deal was.

Our biggest complaint about the park (and it seemed to be a lot of peoples) was the Saloon,Fire in the Hole and Opera House area. Horrible would be a good thing compared to the congestion and headaches in this area!  Why on earth did someone decide to put three (!!!) food kiosks in this area??? And one of those is directly in a walking path (next to the saloon), who thought that one up?

Other than this area the park was quiet.  Nothing new to see in the HDH or old Waterboggan areas. The park up keep is amazing as always except for the old waterfall area, they seem to be just letting that area go. Maybe future plans in this area?

We loved some of the new to us food offerings in the park. Favorites were the cupcakes and whoopies in the bakery and the giant pretzels just outside the bakery.

Can't wait till next season.

Branson Talk / Dinner in Branson
« on: July 22, 2010, 11:26:07 AM »
We have been to Branson many times but are taking some family for the first time in a few weeks. We are looking for a good place to take first timers and a few of our favorites haven't been so great the last few times. (Shorty Smalls, Hard Luck diner and Garfields) So where are some of the best places to have a sit down dinner with about 8 people?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Thoughts from the park on Nov 7th
« on: November 08, 2009, 06:50:22 PM »
Just got back a great weekend at Silver Dollar City. Lots of really good and some bad...

The park was in great shape and most of the inside rides looked great. It looked like the shoot-out was in great shape. The park was packed. I haven't seen it this busy on opening weekend in a very long time. Even though two of the trains were down the Christmas train ride was still one of the highlights of the trip. The conductors here were very helpful and made a bad situation bearable.

A few bad things... Service at most of the quick service food stops was slow and very annoyed with people. (When did cell phones become common among staff? We saw quite a few cell phones on counters with what looked to be workers texting) I understand that the parks were crowded but this should affect how staff handles customers. Overall the park seemed to have been caught off guard by the crowds. Most places seem understaffed.

Overall a great trip and we did purchase passes again for next year. (Don't pass up the Pumpkin Whoppie at Eva and Delilah's bakery!)

so weird to even think of the train as it is now being gone. The line for the train is almost always one of the longest in the parks. At Christmas time the line goes on forever. This is one move that i think SDC needs to re-look into. Who ever rides the train at Six Flags? No one. There are times like this when I worry about SDC becoming more of an Amusement park than a theme park.

WOW that maybe the worst news I have heard in a long long time. The train and Alfie and Ralphie are a big part of memories and one of my fav times in the park. Does this mean that Grandpa will also be gone? It seems they will be getting hate mail like never before if that happens. Sad to see one of fav parks changing the classics. Kinda like Disney and its a small world.
