General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Who's Going to OTC?
« on: November 12, 2010, 03:17:37 PM »
Yes, thanks for the good "rain karma"  sanddunerider. I have a great past about 45 minutes ahead of me. Time to get in line 90 minutes before the 6:15 Christmas Carol, which let's out just in time for the 8pm parade.

Tip: Go online and read the Pathfinder before you head to the park. Only 2 parades and you should get in line at least 30 min before any of the shows start, especially Christmas Carol :)

Branson Talk / Re: Deer Run Motel (very disappointed)
« on: November 12, 2010, 02:37:19 AM »
I was quite surprised to see that TripAdvisor ranks Deer Run as #30 (out of 147 hotels) and 95% of the people who reviewed it would recommend it. No mention of porn in the reviews. You might want to get on there, write a review, and let others know about your bad experience. If nothing else, the management won't want the bad publicity and Hotel owners review this site for feedback more often than one would think.

I would actually recommend AmazInn & Suites myself. Great pool, breakfast, wi-fi, etc. It isn't as close to SDC, but it is off Shepard of The Hills Expressway very close to the IMAX and several nice restaurants. You can avoid 76 entirely, (except crossing it) on your way to Hwy 265, where you can make a right turn to head to SDC. Why deal with traffic any sooner than you have to? :)

They "turn the water down" during OTC, but it is still there.

I am going on Friday, November 12th...unless it is raining pretty bad ???

I also read on the website it may close if the temperature is below 50 degrees. So it will probably have a limited amount of time to operate during the day, and probably won't be open when the park closes.

SDC website says "NOTE: RiverBlast will not operate in temperatures below 35 degrees."

Most of the other rides shut down from 32-40 degrees...But here's my favorite:
"Geyser Gulch will operate throughout regular park hours, weather permitting." with a nighttime photo of Geyser Gulch at Christmas time. YEAH RIGHT!!! I won't go within 100 feet of a water canon during OTC.

On the other hand, I would ride American Plunge on New Year's Eve if I got a T-Shirt that that said "Polar Bear Club Plunge  2010," and some kind of SDC logo with icicles dangling at the bottom, on it, as long as I had another set of warm clothes to change into :)

I like the one that is across the lake from the Branson Landing. Does anybody know if that one is up yet?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Christmas Festival Recommendations
« on: November 02, 2010, 05:35:52 PM »
TURN OFF the HYPER LOUD music on the square when the HOMESTEAD PICKERS ARE TRYING TO PLAY AT THE HOMESTEAD!!!!!! For crap sake folks, come on. It ain't hard to figure out you can't hear bluegrass instruments played acoustically when there is 10 million watts of canned christmas music blaring just a few feet away.

I agree with you on this, to a certain extent. The homestead pickers cannot be heard over the music associated with the square.

That said, the square music caters to thousands of people who want to hear it. Sadly, the music is pre-recorded because it HAS TO BE. The Trans Siberian Orchestra, Alan Sylvestri, and other nationally renowned musicians aren't gonna stand in the cold every weekend, just to play music to a giant Christmas tree.

I enjoy the tree, but have also grown to appreciate the Homestead Pickers too. The Homestead Pickers should use their current location for day shows and move to another spot in the park at night. To me, it makes more sense than trying to move a 5 story Christmas tree or cancelling a "tree performance" during the homestead pickers shows. Turing the tree music down would be ineffective. They have it loud for a reason, so thousands of people can enjoy it :)

@Ozark BBQ. There ya go. And have soft-packed safer snowballs already on the ride and on the shore to facilitate the Snow Blast ride.

I think they should turn it into the worlds first snowball fight ride. However, I don't expect a lot of people to agree with me on this one. It would be a blast though.

Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC's 2012 Project

I agree that a wooden rollercoaster would be a welcome addition. I brought a very brave person to Six Flags who rode all the other rides except Screaming Eagle. It is the most thrilling ride in the park (ride in the back car...trust me) The Boss is another great example. It doesn't have to go upside down to be cool :)

White Water Discussion / Re: WW in 2011
« on: November 01, 2010, 01:52:12 PM »
I know that some will be sad to see the current Lazy River go. However, there are plenty of other "tame" areas in the park to enjoy. Aloha River does not look like it will be particularly ferocious, so it will still cater to most of the people who liked lazy river, while encouraging others who previously dismissed it as "boring" to check it out :)

I am excited to see it in action. Buying a 2011 SDC/WW pass with my next check :)

I think this is great :) Does anybody know for sure if this is replacing the Lazy River or is it in a completely different area?

Check out the new White Water ride for 2011. Thank you Copper and Sanddunerider for bringing the link to my attention :)

If they are overhauling the Lazy River, this is a welcome addition indeed, in my opinion.
