Announcements / Re: Spam

I use SMF as well and Are You Human? Anti-Bot Registration Check has worked like a charm.  I haven't had a single spammer get through in months.

As for hosting I've been using Bluehost for close to 3 years now and rarely do we have a technical issue that wasn't my own doing.  Their support team has been great as well.

Herschend Family Entertainment Closes Celebration City,
Explores New Development Concepts in Branson

(Branson, MO 10/24/08) Due to a shift in business strategy, Herschend Family Entertainment (HFE) announced today the closure of Celebration City in Branson, Missouri.  The company is already exploring various new development concepts for the site including an aquarium, other family attractions, re-theming the current park and also, destination retail and dining. The park will close at end of day on Saturday, October 25, the last scheduled operating day of the season.

HFE properties in the region employ more than 2,000 year-round and seasonal positions.   Approximately 18 full-time positions are directly impacted by the closure, and the company is able to find new roles for most of those individuals.     Seasonal employees will have the opportunity to interview for 2009 seasonal positions at Silver Dollar City, White Water and the Showboat Branson Belle.

"As with businesses across the country, we have had to carefully examine our future strategic plans.  We need to make smart, forward-thinking decisions in a tough economic climate.  HFE has operated attractions in Branson for nearly fifty years and our businesses there have continued to expand with the market growth. We are confident Branson will continue to grow as one of America's premier vacation destinations for the long-term.  As we plan the re-development of the Celebration City property, we will focus on projects with strong appeal to new and returning visitors to the market," said Joel Manby, president and chief executive officer for Herschend Family Entertainment.

Other Parks / Re: Prowler - Worlds of Fun 2009

If CF started really theming the crap out of everything it might actually take away from parks like SDC and Disney.  They have their place in the market and parks like SDC have their place.

Not everyone is going to build $100 million roller coasters like Disney, which still blows my mind.  4 Millennium Force's or 1 Expedition Everest?

It's considered a non-coaster event but if the weather is nice enough there will be morning ERT on one of the major coasters.  If the weather stinks ERT on Fire in the Hole is likely.

There's a lunch, which includes presentations from the regional parks.  Silver Dollar City and Worlds of Fun have already confirmed.

If you're not a member of ACE you can check them out here http://www.aceonline.org/

Schlitterbahn still hasn't put together their local marketing team.  They're getting close though and once they're in place we'll hit them up.

The St Louis has not confirmed yet.

I know that WoF is in it to win it though.

Last year didn't rain.  Two years ago was the nasty one I believe.

I remember my wife and I driving down the Friday afternoon before and spending that evening in the park without even wearing coats.

It's considered a non-coaster event though and the coasters are just a bonus.  The presentations should be interesting this year.

Mark your calendars for our regional winter event at Silver Dollar City on December 6th. While the details are still being ironed out, this year's event looks to be an exciting one and we hope to bring the details of the event to you soon. Continuing the traditions of years past, we plan on bringing together park representatives from throughout the region to discuss what is to come in 2009 in addition to enjoying the wonderful food, atmosphere and hospitality that can only be found at Silver Dollar City.
