Title: Dollywood 2011 Project
Post by: dwfan on July 21, 2010, 06:25:38 PM
I just found out on thrill network boards from an employee who is a thrill network board member that DW's press release for there 2011 project will be announced August 2nd!!! The only thing they talked about on thrill network is getting a new coaster in DW. Although he didn't say what the ride would be, he did say he thought we would all like what we were going to here. Like I said all they talk about on there is a new coaster, and he did say in DW meetings he brought up the ideas posted on thrill network. So DW may be looking at a new coaster in 2011, who knows but only a week and a half until Monday August 2nd, I will watch the news and tell you guys on August 2nd what they are getting. :) :)

In June I used my SDC seasons pass at Dollywood to gain 50% admision.  The man what was processing my entry said" Ok, I have to ask you, since you are from SDC area, WHat do you think about the Big Swing?, thats what they told us we were getting next year and we didnt know if it was a good ride"
We will see on the 2nd

There is also supposed to be an additional announcement, everyone is guessing it might be the resort Dollywood talked about.

I would expect it to be more along the lines of a new show to replace an older one or a new up-charge experience.

Here's hoping DW gets a fun new type of ride for the chain, so that SDC can get it next!  ;D

Here's a really good video that's just been put out on the ride: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPURkruaO7s
There's also a new set on the FB page http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150101841862240&set=a.10150101841757240.286442.239284692239&theater#!/photo.php?fbid=10150101841862240&set=a.10150101841757240.286442.239284692239&theater&pid=6134779&id=239284692239 (http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150101841862240&set=a.10150101841757240.286442.239284692239&theater#!/photo.php?fbid=10150101841862240&set=a.10150101841757240.286442.239284692239&theater&pid=6134779&id=239284692239)

Sounds like there's still lots of interesting theming to be added, plus the kids' play area sounds fairly elaborate. It'll definitely be interesting to see what the finished area looks like.

Between this, MM, and Riverblast, I'd say HFEC is really trying to reach new levels with their theming and atmosphere additions. They've always been good about details and charm, but these days they're really laying down the cash to distinguish their parks.

Think any of the "soft climb-on" items will be similar to things that will appear in Half-Dollar Holler?

looks like they are making good progress. I like the burning 2x4's in the metal barrell for heat..

It looks like DW's screamin swing will have a special set up for wheelchair access.

I didn't realize this was actually needed, as the swings are fairly close to the ground. It might imply that there are other design differences between this swing and SDC's versions such as lower floors. I'm pretty sure SDC's version was the first to have the rolling magnets, and the ride time is actually longer than most other swings (IIRC), so the Screamin Swing design is still changing from installation to installation. I think the air tanks on this one are set up differently too, from what I've seen. I wonder if that will translate into a few additional swings on each ride.

^No more swings will be added.  PTB think that TGS is almost too long.

swoosh, i wondered about that,  the swing does "seem" to take quite a while to "ride".  by the time it starts up and shuts down.... BUT, I have never actually timed it.

Some new photos are up on another goofy new mini-site for the barnstormer. http://www.dollywood.com/land/barnstormer/index.html (click on Flight Prep)

The barn looks really sharp, and it looks like there'll be some some nice kids play structures as well.

The site's been up since they announced the addition, but I hadn't seen the newer photos.  Interesting.  I'm glad they kept SDC's theme truer to the time period.  They can do different things at DW since they partnered with Parton.

Dollywood is the "Six Flags" version of SDC.  Plain and simple.
I like the park, but the theming there leaves a lot to be desired (as does their Christmas event)

Dollywood has updated their Barnstormer website with construction photos from March 14th, 2011.

It looks like construction is almost done on this ride.

Meh.  I'm happy for Dollywood for getting a quality flat ride finally, but I'm having trouble getting excited about this.  Second verse, same as the first and all that jazz

It is rather late in the game for them to be getting a screamin swing, but damn - it and the entire area looks really good. What's up with the lockers being front and center though? Not only do they throw off an almost perfect ambiance, but does this mean HFEC is moving toward SF-style locker policies? It will be interesting to see if they offer cubbies on this ride. I know they slow down operations just a tad, but IMO it's totally worth it not to have to throw $1's away all across the park every time I want to ride something.

actually the reports out of the Texas parks is that they are no longer enforcing that this year

Barnstormer will have loose article bins.  If you look at photo 13 of 14 on the March 14th updated on the website, it shows a bin.

I thought administration was the problem.

It's like we say at work: the inmates are easy, it's the suits who are a pain.

Nice..  great pics.

Dolly looks pretty good in the pics still.  That would have been nice to meet/see her and maybe shake her hand.

Personally I would like to see more pics and expanations of the mechanical operations. Just because.
