Title: Top ways you know you have been at SDC too much
Post by: Andymeets1880s on June 23, 2010, 02:40:10 PM
I dont think any of us would agree that you could be at SDC too much, but I thought this could be another humorous thread!

1. Everytime the wife/girlfriend bakes a cake, you say "Icing?? Where's the powdered sugar?"

2. Everytime you water the lawn, you have the overwhelming urge to spray the kids!

3. When you go to an arena event or major sporting event, you keep wondering why the tram isnt running from the parking lot.

4. You refuse to buy pajamas until you can find them with thick black and white stripes.

5. People stare at you when you stop on 105 degree black asphalt, take a deep breath and go "Ahhh...memories!"

6. Everything you hammer in the garage is done on an anvil.

7. You ask for season passes on your birthday.....and Christmas.....and anniversary....and....

8. Whenever you change a flat tire, you always have to give the tire a spin before you remove it.

9. You ask the WalMart associate in housewares "Where are the skillets that are THIS big?" and hold your arms out to make a circle as big as a tire.

10. Your home schedule changes to mirror the same hours as SDC.

Love the above post!  Got a quick story:  First week at college at Southeast Missouri State University at Cape Girardeau, I'm standing in a hallway waiting for a history class to begin, and this guy walks up to me, pauses, and asks me "aren't you that Junior Dugan guy from Silver Dollar City?"  I was floored! I occasionally got asked the question around Branson on a day off, but THAT ONE really surprised me. It only happened that one time. Fame is fleeting!

74.  The citizen's start recognizing YOU

This one is good, actually happened to me. The second summer that Wildfire was open I was down there many many weekends riding over and over (usually on Fridays) it got to where one really sweet lady named Jackie working in the Wildfire gift shop got to where she knew me by name, she knew me every season after that and always by name, even when she went to other shops I'd still stop in and say hi and she would always remember me, I missed out getting to see her before she retired recently, in fact the last chance I would have seen her I was on my way there on my motorcycle and I got hit head on by a pickup that crossed into my lane. And so this leads into my top way you know you have been to SDC too much.

Just a few minutes before the pickup crashed into me I was thinking, well in 30 minutes I'll be in the park and can ride wildfire and then go have a piece of pie. I flew about 20 feet before bouncing off the pavement and sliding to a stop. I actually thought I was dead for a moment until I realized I was face down on the pavement. My injuries and concussion hadn't soaked in yet so I got up and started taking my gear off and see how bad I was hurt before I lost consciousness, when I came to the ambulance people said 'where do you want to go?" Not thinking clearly of course I looked up and said, well... I was on my way to Silver Dollar City.... I could tell they wanted to shake their heads and think geez, this one has lost it. They said, well we can take you to Branson Hospital or Springfield... about that time the concussion kicked in fully and I blacked out again, next thing I knew I was being loaded in the ambulance to head to Branson, thats as close as I got that day, by the time I got out of the hospital that evening it was closing time at SDC.

^ I snagged one of those shirts too when I worked at the City.  It was in the Hospitality House I think.  Love that shirt and it is just so simple and bold.  Not like the busy ugly shirts that I see each year I return for a visit.  What's with that?!

Here at Disney, we have latched on to the "retro" thing in all of our shirts.  You can buy retro Epcot Center shirts (as opposed to just "Epcot") and vintage looking Magic Kingdom tees now too.  I wish they would come out with a 70's and 80's style SDC shirt again.

For now, I'm holding on to the one I have in all it's log-and-axe glory.

Off topic, but there are some really neato "Established 1960" shirts in the trinket shop above the cave, over behind the taffy store.  They're probably elsewhere too, but that's where they were last winter.

You go into your  kitchen at home and demand your wife make funnel cakes for you...You go into your driveway and wait five minutes for the tram...You find yourself humming the Flooded Mine song in the shower...In the middle of the night you roll over in bed and think you are on Thunderation.

Have no fear sanddunerider as no matter how many demands a man makes, the woman is always the one calling the shots. ;)

I have infact had several actual dreams about Silver Dollar City. Of course my brain likes to jumble up fragments of information so it's like a Silver Dollar City, mixed together with Six Flags, mixed together with the Circus. :D

'that combination could be dangerous..  have to spend a week at a time there..  1 day would not be enough to do a park themed that way..

When you know every curve, which fuel station has clean bathrooms and friendly help, mile marker, exit numbers, speed limits, road construction detour, and backroads that save you time!!!

Well, by George if I didn’t have yet another dream about Silver Dollar City last night! Of course in dreamland, it never made perfect sense. One of my family members bought a samurai sword there, and we took a jumbo jet flight out of Branson. The Grand Exposition was actually a mile away from the park next to some large river. Then we had to go inside a Space Adventure building to get back to the main park. Everything else was sort of the same as the real Silver Dollar City though! :D

Ok, Ozark...it's ok...just put the computer keyboard down and back away from it slowly.  :D

when you are with your family and your walking thru the live nativity scene and the lepors jump out at you and you have the sudden urge to shake your fist and yell UGLY!!

then when walking thru the "marketplace" and all the lower class merchants are trying to sell you things you get the sudden urge to either give them an empty taffy wrapper or a few pennies....

How about... "when you don't need either the pathfinder or the times to spout off information - you just know it" ?

Now there is an idea! Silver Dollar City should have a night when they shut off all of their lights, and allow guest to find their way around with nothing but prior knowledge. :)

It would be a blast with the exception of the liabilities. None the less, I rarely use my Pathfinder Map for navigation. I mostly use it at home to relive my days at Silver Dollar City. ;D

I remember the days in the late 70s and early 80s when the only night lighting on the park was a few street lamps and some flood lights hidden in the trees. It was very dark on park. There were big sections of street that were not lit at all, and you had to hope nobody left big objects laying in the pathways as you stumbled along to the next area that was at least dimly lit.

That's interesting Junior. I would love to see the park lit up with only traditional candles, and lanterns, and oil lamp burners! It would be a great way to extend the park hours during The Harvest Festival.

Of course, when I was on park, the hours usually did not extend until dark, so the lighting was only so employees could slowly find their way around park. Most employees were not on park that late. I do remember coming out of a "Young Life" Christian meeting on park around 1980 that went a bit long, and we were all stumbling around in the dark trying not to fall on the pathways to get to the parking lots.
