Dolly was just on Fox and friends and anounced that this was Dollywood's year to celebrate its 25th year in business. Hope it doesn't take any of SDC's aniversary fanfair.

Only thing, this is the 24th year of business for Dollywood according to Pete Owen.
Next year is the 25th anniversary of Dollywood, so it's a tad confusing on why she said that.

Checked out DW's website. Anniversary portion of site seems fairly low key to me. It does state that the park dates back to 1985 so i guess it is 25 years.

There are two ways to spin it: the 25th year of operation ends with the 25th anniversary, so then you get to celebrate the anniversary too. ;)

She became a partner in 1985; the name was changed the following year. It’s tricky, but I would have waited till next year to celebrate that way it doesn’t get overshadowed by SDC.

Anyone with ANY skills in simple math are going figure out that is only 24 years.

I have to agree that it just simply does not add up correctly. Perhaps Dollywood is trying to piggyback on Silver Dollar City’s anniversary year. However, they are being so low key about the whole thing that it just seems a bit out of place. Maybe they're afraid that if they make a big deal about it then they will wake up all of the snoozing mathematicians?
On the other hand, maybe Dolly Parton is getting older, and she just wants to make as many years count as she can. :P

Technically, if you're counting 1986 through 2010 this is the 25th anniversary. When you subtract 1986 from 2010 it is 24, but if you're counting from the beginning of 1986 through 2010 it is 25 years. When you're subtracting 1986 from 2010 you're only counting to the beginning of 2010, not through it. Try it. Count like this: 1986 to 1987, 1987 to 1988, etc. and instead of stopping at 2009 to 2010, count through 2010 by counting 2010 to 2011. It's 25 years. Again, almost no one counts this way, but it is correct.

^It's true. SDC is in its 51st year of operation this year. They've been open 50 years and so many months.
Dollywood has been open 24 years and so many months, so they are technically in their 25th year of operation.
This is an odd way of looking at things. For example, we don't look at it this way with personal birthdays and anniversarys. I turned 27 last month, which means I'm technically in my 28th year (I'm 27 and two months old); I haven't completed my 28th year yet. I suppose we personally don't look at it this way because we only celebrate the actual day; it's not a year-long celebration.
For companies/corporations, they tend to have year-long celebrations, so then it gets tricky. Do you celebrate the anniversary during the anniversary year or after the year is completed? It gets even more tricky when you take into account the exact day of the anniversary; most companies/corporations just do it by calendar/operating year rather than kicking it off on the exact day.
It's just personal preference, I guess. SDC decided to celebrate it after the operating year was completed, while DW decided to celebrate it during the actual operating year. Nothing wrong with either approach; DW isn't the only company that's celebrated an anniversary during the anniversary year rather than after it's completed. I've seen it done before.

You are right they are counting Seasons, which would be 25. I still admit its too confusing.

Zero year counts for something.
This is my 20th year of teaching. It was my 20th year starting on the first day of the school year, but I have not taught 20 years until the last day has been completed.
I say celebrate the first day of the 25th year AND the birthday that marks the completion of 25 years!

I will being my 29th year at the hospital on May 18th, but the company will no reconize it until next year

Not meaning to be obnoxious, but my Uncle was on the Chamber of commerce in Springfield, Taney county when Dolly became partners with HFE..........

Talking about differences of reckoning years...I started at SDC in June of 1976. In terms of service to the company, I'm now in my 35th year, which I believe I will get recognition for at the service pin ceremony later this summer (if they hold true to form, they recognize every 5 years of service). However, it's not my anniversary. I left the company for approximately 1 year in '87, coming back in the spring of '88; had to re-qualify for benefits, vacation, the whole shebang. Anyway, I just had my 22nd anniversary. It's always hard for me to keep the two straight.

Hey Junior, just a response to your Dolly jokes....ouch, oooh, hmmm, and oh, brother. And to find out her hair is really brown is new to me. But I've never been a fan of her music per say, just saw her in the telly from time to time.
