Just wanted to throw this out there.
1. The large electronic celebration city sign behind wildcat has been covered with ads for SDC and WW.
2. The large Celebration City sign on top of the Route 66 building was missing as of February 4th, but it was returned when I drove by on February 23rd.
Does anyone have any thoughts why they would remove a large sign saying "Celebration City" just to put it back up when HFE has stated the CC will not return in its current form?
Here's hoping to return as an attractions lead when CC reopens in a new form.

Don't know what the deal is with the sign, but the place will not be opening up again in the foreseeable future. They are in the process of clearing goods and equipment out of the place. Know anyone who wants to buy a used laser system?
-
^Do you know the details of what exactly they're clearing out? Are any rides getting ready to leave yet? I can't imagine most of the small flats staying, unless they're actually going to try to re-build it as a new theme park again.
-
I still say they should move the laser show to Echo Hollow. What a great venue to hold something like that in. They could even change the show out for each festival.
-
I have hundreds of pics from CC when it was open. I wasn't the biggest fan of the place, but I loved the midway (mainly for the deep fried Twinkies & Oreos). I like timeless photos, that do not have many people in them (since the clothing usually signals the era of the photo) and I took a great many there with the facades, etc...I would love to take some before much is changed now, but I can't take too many from outside the fence.
-
well, just yesterday (2/25) I went by the park and the construction or should i say de-construction crew was working on the ferris wheel and when i came back by.. it was gone...
Admin Edit: This is a joke, the ferris wheel is still there.

^I wonder if they're putting it in storage or planning to sell it?

My guess is that they are putting it in the Cathedral room.. beside the Balloon Chase.
-
Hmm... that IS interesting. I wish you had got a better pictures of the missing wheel.
While it could easily go into the Grand Expo area at SDC, I'm not sure it would.
We'll have to wait and see where it ends up.
-
sorry i only had my phone cam with me and took the picture as an after thought... i'll sneak on property later..
-
Most of the rides have been put into storage and today they were working on taking some of them apart. As for selling them, I have heard they are not doing that as of yet. They have moved a lot of equipment to Dollywood, Stone Mountain and Wild Adventures. When I say equipment I mean food, merchandise, computers, stuff like that. They took great care of the park over the winter. It did look sad and lonely though.
Now on my way there the Ferris Wheel was up, but I don’t remember looking for it when I was leaving. It has to still be there. I think I would have heard a lot of commotion while I was there if they were taking that thing down.
Oh, and if they would heavily theme it Victorian I wouldn’t mind if it was at the Expo.
-
Copper, I saw you running to your car to get back home.. you weren't being very observant!
see you tomorrow! yeah!
-
Whoah, what a development. This is huge. This may mean they've abandoned the idea of running the place as a theme park again.
I'm still holding out that rides will be part of the new concept, I hope they're just getting rid of the less popular rides and re-positioning the ferris wheel.
I mean, they could still be going after the animal park/theme park concept, or even a shopping center, resort, etc/ theme park mix like we speculated before, it's impossible to tell right now even as they take out rides.
It does worry me that the Ferris Wheel is gone though, I'm pretty sure that would stay if they intended to keep rides at the place, it's too iconic to lose. They could be repositioning it... but that's probably just getting my hopes up.
I guess we'll have to keep watching. Any rumors trickling around about what kind of concepts they're looking at? Any hint at an announcement coming any time soon? I'll have to contact the park soon just to ask when they think they will announce anything.
Thanks for the updates!

NEIN! Ich scherzte gerade. Das Riesenrad ist noch dort. Die anderen Sachen in Copper's-Mitteilung sind zwar erfolgt worden. TRAURIG!
-
Nicht lustig. Solche Dinge werden ernst hier genommen werden. Kennen Sie dieses, das Sie sollten.
Ja spreche ich Deutsch

Lol, really? So it's still there? Nice, next you'll tell me gullible is written on the ceiling. :P Good thing there really are some rides being put in storage or I'd feel like an ass for spreading this to TPR.
I should've noticed the pixels, cause I'm an expert, you know. ;D
-
Oh thank the Silver Dollar City Gods your not mad!..
sorry!
yes it is still there... i was just feeling bored....
-
Nice. What can you actually see that's changed in the park yet? I'm gessing all the old portables are gone. Are either steel coasters still standing? It seems like they would take them down since they're smaller and the connections will just rust away sitting out there like that.
-
The ride cars, boats, gondolas… have been taken out. The carousel has been wrapped up in plastic. It is really funny looking. Most of all of the shops are empty with a few pieces of odd things here and there. There is a winter staff there and they have taken care of the park.
-
Nice, next you'll tell me gullible is written on the ceiling.
Don't be silly, "gullible" isn't even a real word. It's not in the dictionary!
-
^It's really not! I looked it up after seeing this post, and I was amazed that it wasn't in there!
-
I did start a Celebration City Flickr Page so feel free to add any pics of the place if you have them.

Nothing really new, but I listened to an employee telling others this: 1) CC will not re-open, do to it wasn't making any $ (didn't say it was losing $, however), 2) most likely they will be building a walk-thru aquarium, & 3) they expect some of the rides to be worked into SDC, with the Wildcat being the most obvious themed save. I can only hope!
-
I'm still hoping they'll wait it out and re-launch the park as a HFEC variant of Seaworld. I mean, just a bad ass aquarium, OzCat, and the ferris wheel would be all they'd need.
I guess we can probably start guesstimating that 2010 will bring ex-CC rides to SDC, not the g-fighter we almost got. :( (my speculation, not offical info)
Well, look at the bright side: at least we'll get a neat little KMC Afterburner - re-themed nicely I assume; a fun flying carpet; and that awesome S&S double shot, not to mention the flyers. Hell, maybe 2011 will bring Roaring Falls ::)
SDC will be able to close it's "ride-gap" quickly and cheaply.
-
^I do hope you are wrong.
-
I think most of the rides don't belong at SDC otherwise they would have been there in the first place.
-
I just got a phone call from a Branson resident that informed me the Celebration City gift shop is open thru this weekend, to sell off stuff at 75% off. Sadly, I can't go down and browse for an extra souvenir. One more sign they're moving forward with clearing it out... :'(
-
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, I cannot go either.
-
Passing by this evening, we saw a very large for sale sign in front of the Wild Cat, I believe Branson Realty. No $$ set aside for an "aquarium", should mean more $$ for SDC!!!
-
Jeez, what a waste. I can't believe they would spend $40 mil on such a huge attraction + additions and then completely abandon the property after 5 years. I mean, they could have at least tried something different with the place. What do they expect to happen now? I guess they'll have a few new rides to spread among their parks, and the land will bring some value, but it's still a huge waste compared to waiting the recession out and trying something new.
I guess this is probably the last nail in the coffin for the wildcat. It can't be moved to either DW or SDC, and honestly, who would want them to try? It was a good ride but it's almost always better to build new.
-
Sweet!!! My parents are down there right now, and I was hoping they would buy me something...Maybe they will buy me CC! That would be a great souvenir. I could see it now...

^That would be the ultimate souvenir! :D

It's called a "tax write-off" -- not like we haven't seen any of the other major players have do the same thing in the past.

There is a sign in front of the lot there by the employee parking lot, but there is no sign by Wildcat -- and that sign taht is in that small lot is not for CC.
-
Anyone been by CC lately that can give us a status update? I'll try to snap a few photos when I'm over there after thanksgiving.
-
Everything is still there except the scrambler and flyer have started to be packed up to move to their new home (from what I was told)
-
I was at CC the other day, some of the buildings are now being used for storage for our visual dept. I worked with E&E visual during christmas set-up so I got to make several trips to CC...not much exciting at all.
-
Anyone have any recent news?
-
I heard a sick rumor today: "I heard they were going to let the Branson fire department practice with Wild Cat..." I punch you in the face, rumor starter!!! >:(
-
NOOOOOO!!!!!! >:(I would assume this means rescue operations, and ladder practice, not literally fire ignition and extinguishing...I am assuming atleast.
