It was only a matter of time. I'm honestly surprised it lasted as long as it did.

It also appears that they will be doing something with the cabanas at the wave pool.

Shame they are going to tear that down.  I wonder if they have plans? or if this is a liability issue.

Too bad, But it does look bad when you drive by, wood pieces hanging off of it..  Sitting unused is bad ln the whole facility..  I will miss seeing it.

LOL.  It is almost a Branson landmark

It should have been done long ago, but I really held out hope for awhile that somehow they would refurbish and re-open it. OzCat really was one of the best GCII's ever. Maybe I'm biased, but it really was a nice package of classic design, sweeping curves, and airtime.

I'm wondering what is driving them to finally demolish it: the structure itself degrading, the Spirit of 76 project, or perhaps a new use for the site?

I'm sad in that all of the visits we made to Celebration City we never rode the OzCat -- always thought "next time" until there was no next time to do so.

It's depressing to lose a solid coaster that had no business being left to rot. CC the one black eye on HFE.

It's less sad tearing it down than it is watching it rot.

It would have been cool to maybe have some shops around it and sell tickets for rides, almost like a go-kart track. I'd pay to ride it again...

I would like to use some of the OzCat wood for craft projects. Or make a bed from. What about the Ozcat sign? I would like to have that too! I think they should raffle that off......

Bingo! Funny, there's a go cart track wasting away, there was an arcade building wasting away. I've said it over and over again that It should have evolved into a  no admission fee entertainment district where things were sold on a per ride or ride pass basis.

^It does seem to be a no-brainer to us.  I wonder who thinks it's a yes-brainer.  Does it just not fit into their business model?

Here's an article from the 10/27 edition of Branson Tri-Lakes about the demolition:

It strikes me how much they are emphasizing that nothing is really being pursued yet for the property. They're just getting rid of OzCat finally because it's bad for the town's image to have a defunct amusement park look so obvious.

Awhile back there were some rumors floating around town that HFEC was evaluating an aquarium. It seems like those plans probably fell through, especially with the leadership change. I'm still just wondering what it will take for them to finally make a move here, but it sounds like they have big projects stacked up at DW and SDC for years.

It didn't work for Mutton Hollow or Branson USA, I just don't see pay per ride ever working long term.

This could and should be the location for a new resort/ white water #2.  I think there is enough space they could add a resort/night area.

If they do build a resort, it needs to be like the Gaylord Opryland. That place is amazing.

Well, I just spent way too much time looking at pics of the Gaylord on Google Images.

YES. They should definitely build a resort that is like the Gaylord. Oh my goodness. SO beautiful!

It's all indoors too. That's the crazy part. 9 acres of beauty.

Did a drive by and demolition has started... it is a demo job, not dismantle, and no apparent attempt to save anything..  Although they have not touched the building yet...  Took several pictures, will get them posted and shared later,,,
  '
'Also if you want to drive through the west parking lot and look around, that area is open on sunday morning now..  the church is using that lot for their attendance..

Needs indoor waterpark and then amazing. I don't think you'll see a Jack Daniels eaterly either.

Lot's of similarities of that and the attractions at the outlet mall with things many  have suggested for the  CC spot. Even talk of a few selected rides (themed ferris wheel wooden coaste)in an area that bridged the two better before the flood seemed to halt talk of it.

Gaylord also thrives on convention/meeting business for room bookings. How would that play with Branson's convention center downtown. Branson ain't Nashville. I also wonder how the new huge convention center downtown in Nashville has affected Gaylord bookings in the area.

When I was there last month there were 3 conventions going on at the same time in the middle of the week (at Gaylord) - I'd say they're doing just fine.

Posted some photos on the FB page: https://www.facebook.com/SDCFans-325778850062/

They've definitely started, but they could have been done by now if they wanted to be. I'm guessing they may be waiting until the branson crowds die down for whatever reasons? They're also probably preparing for an implosion of some sort.

There was just two guys doing it, and they had to remove all the steel track first, so a little at a time... Like a slow, painful, death...  :'(

Hurts almost as much as seeing Zingo chopped up.

Funny way to do it though. I didn't think it was going to actually work.

nice video,   Man!  I would love to have 2 or 3 truck loads of that wood.

I heard the wood was so toxic from weather treatment that the local landfill wouldn't take it.

I was there Saturday and its already gone.  They were doing the final clean up sweep up when I drove by.  What a vacancy that coaster has left.

WOW!!   they must have gotten more help.  there is no way 2 guys cleaned up that complete mess in less than a week after the lift hill was collapsed..! Will be there next week.

I think the two guys were just there for the setup.

It's going to be a shock to come around the hill on 76 and see it gone. I just wish we had some hope for something, anything, new to come to that spot. Seems like so much wasted potential after all the hype that was surrounding Branson just before the crash. Remember when we had like three major resorts coming to town?

Wow. I can't believe it's gone. The first GCI to removed. That is truly sad. The only thing I can hope for is that something new will be built. I feel honored to have seen it still standing and gotten some great footage.
