Title: Ride The Ducks
Post by: bradhig on August 02, 2008, 08:01:04 PM
Where do those ducks take people anyway?  I only see them driving around town.

They go out across the dam and have a driveway near White River Landing which gives them access to the lake.  They tool around out on the lake for a while.  On some excursions they go up to the top of Baird Mountain for the most spectacular view of the area.

There are two tours for the Ducks.  One takes a trip into Lake Taney Como.  Time it right and you can see the fire and light show from the water.

I've been on the other tour which travels up the mountain to a display of some other WW2 vehicles (besides the one you're riding in) and then takes you into Table Rock Lake for some views.

The Ducks are worth checking out.  And you get a free Wacky Quacker!  What more could you ask for?

I don't want to steal KBCraig's thunder, but I noticed John Fullerton has some nice photos/memorabilia of Ride the Ducks on his website.  KBCraig posted a link to some of John Fullerton's photos/memorabilia of SDC and SOTH in the SDC Memories/Park History section.  It's really interesting, with photos and brochures dating all the way back to 1971, the first year of Ride the Ducks in Branson.  Notice there's a "Next" button to a second page.  Here's the link:  http://www.johnfullerton.org/RtDpicsPg1.htm (http://www.johnfullerton.org/RtDpicsPg1.htm)

^I suggest the Table Rock Lake tour.  I like that one the best.

I was going to suggest the Landing tour...   But for your first time the Table Rock tour is better.  More history of the actual WWII DUKW.

That's why I picked the Table Rock tour.  For your first time it definitely is better.

^It'd be cool if the vehicles looked like that, but it would definitely decrease tour capacity quite a bit! :D

I just saw their printed catalog, and they have an authentic DUKW (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DUKW), unaltered from original military configuration, in their upcoming (and final) auction.

I wanted to link to that, but they didn't have it on their site.

Both uck rides are good with lots of local information the table rock ride is probably more "fun".  but the landin ducks r very worthwhile also...  they are both more than "rides"... be careful the kids may actually learn something.!

The Landing tour is daily during the summer but is offered only on selected weekends in spring and fall.

not a duck fan.....never appealed to me to sit in a boat/car andd drive around witha buncha strangers and drive around the lake that I have seen. I could get the info they tell ya on the internet cheaper. I dunno, party pooper I guess but just think of if it were to capsize and you are trying to save your family with 20 other families trying to save theirs..............that spells fun.

You'd be surprised at the experience - it's quite entertaining, as well as educational, and it's not contrived at all.

WHAT?????? :o :o :o    A  "non-duck" fan??    say it isnt so!!!!  Come on, take your SDC pass.  Get your discount and ride the table rock ducks.. May be a little cool now, Need a warm summer day, with the wind blowing in the windows for full effect, BUT " try it, you will like it"..  Oh yes, 1 more thing. Sit in the front 1/2 of the vehicle if you can.. ;)

I can sit outside with the fan on for the warm breeze with my laptop watching a video of the ducks while my hubby gently mists me with a spray bottle from the dollar store....

cost:
50 cents for spray bottle
4.50 cents internet usage for the day
2.00 to run fan for 2 hours
Cost: 7.00...........and I stayed home and didnt capsize.

Oh, come on be a (duck) quack! I say try it before you hate it. That would be the same as me telling you how bad Silver Dollar City is without ever steping foot inside of the park. ;)

Life is short; go out and experience. Just saying. :P

Plus ya get to blow them lil' quacker thingys at other boats & drive everyone crazy! On our tour, we was by a golf course & when this girl putted her shot, we blew as hard as we could & she missed her shot! Priceless.. :D

It's not about the vehicle;
It's not about the splash.

It's totally about an experience that you can't get in another setting.  The Ducks are not boring.

Of course, if you have a real fear of capsizing, that's a whole other reason, and I can respect that.  The good news is:  there aren't many barges in the Branson lakes.

I've ridden the ducks three or four times and have enjoyed it each time...my family loves the experience and my four boys love the quackers and driving the duck...We actually enjoyed the Branson Landing cruise the most but both are great...The guides are very funny and share very interesting info...give it a try...

your right.. try it...  The information about the area and history is great.  the landing ducks actually tour the college of the ozarks and the driver gives a lot of history and current info..  Sorry i find it hard to believe u dont like it, but yet have not tried it yet.... AND as previously stated NO barges.  Just the showboat and they stay out of the way!!!!...  LOL.....  few days to go.

LOL...Hummm, choice 1- riding around the beautiful Ozarks countryside and going for a cruise on a beautiful lake.
Choice 2- riding around a parking lot full of cars in a green tram.  ???  I think I'll take choice 1.

I think there is more to the story than simply not wanting to go because it is lame. Some people just have a fear of traveling on open water, or being on a small “boat,“ and will make up various excuses to justify, and to cover up the real reason why they do not want to go.

I can understand that, and I respect that. I have a fear of skydiving which is why I will never do it. :o Besides, I can just blow a desk fan in my face, and get the same effect right? ???

On another note, I love waving at the people riding on the ducks as they pass by on the strip. Sure it may be corny, but I want the ride to be even extra special for them. :)

fair enough ozark! i have a fear of flying :-[.. dont know what to do to duplicate that? and dont care...LOL..   dont like it anyway!! :)     Always wave and yell at the golfers and other drivers??????.. YOU BET!!! :o :o

I dont have a fear of water, I have a fear of spending excess money. There I said it. My name is Katie, and I have a fear of spending money. I just dont see the value. And if your arugment is the duck horns you get count me out. I dont like loud toys. Call me a penny pinchin fuddy duddy but I just dont see the darn point in riding a duck.

The whole time I lived in Branson I never even considered riding a Duck. When I got married, my ten year old stepdaughter wanted to ride one, so we gave in. My wife does not like getting on boats and on big lakes, but she and my stepdaughter loved the ride. I did too. Now I really want to take my wife on the Taneycomo cruise and tour College of the Ozarks. Funny thing is, when I lived in Branson as a kid, one of the houses my parents rented had a nice lake view, so I saw the lake everyday. Later, I was a student at College of the Ozarks. So I've seen it all...but I would still ride a Duck just cause it's been so many years.
