The new book will be available, next week!

Out of the Wind is a fictionalized account of real events, written for 4th through 8th grades (and others who are interested). The characters are not real, though some readers and good friends may find pieces of themselves scattered within the plot. It is not my intent to retell other people’s stories or capitalize on their suffering, but to share the very real emotions and struggles experienced by thousands of our neighbors.

I needed to tell this story from multiple points of view, from different places in town, and from a small variety of age groups. To draw the reader into the experience, I also wanted to describe the tornado in present tense. It is a part of Joplin’s story that has not been told until now, and for two years, I felt the compulsion to tell it. I hope I did it justice.

A short preview is on my hoggatt.weebly.com (http://hoggatt.weebly.com).

Thank you, Junior.  I'm especially proud of this one.

Here are some stats for the new 300-page book:

Amazon Review for Out of the Wind:

(FIVE STARS)

"I enjoyed reading this book very much. I felt as if I was actually there experiencing what the people of Joplin went through. The characters felt like real people telling about their real experiences. I wanted to know if there was a real Carly and what happened to Boyd. Did Madison stay strong in her new found faith? Will Hailey become a meteorologist? I became invested in the lives of the characters and in the city of Joplin. I wish I could have gone there to help with relief efforts. I thought the author did a great job of conveying his love of the city and its people. I would love to read a squel, set 10 yesrs in the future."

We're on the shelf!

If you're in the vicinity of Joplin, stop in at Vintage Stock, For All Bible (both in the mall), or Always Buying Books on North Main,

and pick up an autographed copy of my book, Out of the Wind - just in time for the third anniversary of the Joplin EF5 tornado.

If you're in the vicinity of Joplin's airwaves, next week, point your rabbit ears toward KSN, the local NBC affiliate on channel 16.

I will make two appearances:

On Tuesday, May 20, I will appear on the Living Well program, which airs at 4pm.
On Wednesday, May 21, I'll be on Local News Today at 5:30 (yawn) in the morning.

The following day (May 22) will the third anniversary of the EF5 tornado that devastated Joplin in 2011.  I am honored to have been offered such a timely and prime interview slot on the local news.

My book, Out of the Wind, continues to rise in sales as folks discover it.  If you see it in a local bookstore, please pick it up and show it to someone nearby.

I just set them to tape!  They are the only ones I watch in the morning and the afternoon program always has interesting segments.  I have been on living well before!

Thanks, DianaGail.

The first live TV interview is online at http://www.fourstateshomepage.com/fulltext-living-well/d/story/joplin-tornado-book/18095/okZcg4A7LU-uMtOjk2CCew (http://www.fourstateshomepage.com/fulltext-living-well/d/story/joplin-tornado-book/18095/okZcg4A7LU-uMtOjk2CCew).

I did a the second one, this morning.  Perhaps it will be online, later today (more articulate, this time, I think).

I will then be on Good Morning Four States on the ABC affiliate, KODE (local channel 12), next Thursday, May 29, sometime around 6am.

You did a great job yesterday.  I've done segments with Melanie and she is good to work with.  I taped this mornings and I will watch it later.

Thanks, DG.  What crime did you commit to get on the show?

This morning's interview was a lot better:

I was promoting our fall rhea Lana consignment sale last year.  You were lucky.  My segment was in the last 10 minutes.

If you're not in Joplin, you can still check out my books. Remember to look for them the next time you visit Branson.  My books are on the shelves of T. Charleston's Books and Gifts, in Branson.

If you're in the Branson area, stop at the Grand Village Shops and pick up a copy of Out of the Wind or one of my other books.

Colossal Book Signing

OK, so it may not quite be colossal, but it will be unprecedented for this area.  This Saturday from 1:00-4:00, I will join other local authors from the Joplin area at the public library.  Over 20 of us will be meeting and greeting people at the library...and talking about our books and the writing process...and signing copies for interested parties.

Come.  Join us.  Browse.  Ask questions.  Enjoy.  This event promises to be interesting for all.
