Title: Marvel Cave - Cable Train

So I was wondering if any of you have ever had any cable train experiences. . . . like when it is not operational when you arrive.... it does happen occasionally and then there is a fun trip back through the cave from the Elves Chamber to the Cathedral and up the tower!

Yes, the cable was cut! and laying across the tracks! Super cool!!!

I myself have never had the experience of walking back to the Hospitality House, but part of me has always wanted to, at least once.  It'd be really good exercise!

What happened to the cable? Did the train break down?

^That is a trip I never want to make. Over 700 stairs is enough for me.

Nope that is not a doctored photo... I wish I could edit photos that well....


So the cable was warming up and that causes it to lengthen.  So the cable was cut and a new section used to make the cable the right size again.  That's the long and short of it! lol

I really want to walk back sometime!  Maybe next month when I visit I'll ask the tour guide if we can skip the cable cars and just walk back.  Of course, if I do ask I'll make sure the tour group is small because I'll definitely have to defend myself!  :)

They replace the cable every few years.

hehe... sdcforever, I don't think you will win going back through the cave with your guide. My suggestion, go on a day with a heavy chance of thunderstorms. If there is lighting in the area for an excessive amount of time while you are in the cave, they won’t operate the cable train and you will have to walk out!

That would be an amazing site to see rain fall into the cathedral room.
