Just got a "season pass holders" edition of the SDC Times in the mail today. It promotes Kidsfest, Moonlight Madness, and is LOADED DOWN with "Bring a Friend discount passes" and coupons for discounts on food, games, and some of the crafts shops. Also has coupons for stuff at Whitewater. Watch your mail...your SDC TIMES is on the way!!! ;D

I've received 2 emails from SDC telling me the SDC Times is on the way but it hasn't arrived yet. Looking forward to the food/drink discount coupons!

Interesting that there are so many deals in this one. Sounds like the park is listening to all the people who have said they won't make it this year due to budget issues. It's a good scheme to get people hooked for when times are better again.

I'm guessing they didn't want to include coupons in the web version... only wanted true season pass holders to get the discounts. Just a guess anyway.
Haven't gotten mine yet. Anyone who got it want to share what kind of coupons are in there?

OK! so check this out.. I was just cruising through ebay for goodies... And people have lready cut out the BAF in the new times and have them listed for auction!. MAN that didnt take long.. LOL,
wish the city would do something about that..

I saw that too...I really thought that you couldn't do that as the season pass holder had to be present to get the friend in...However, I haven't received my times yet so I don't know what those coupons look like, but this practice is going lead to SDC to stop doing this BAF in the future....

I think the should do BAF as part of the season pass..
If you have a pass you can get someone in with you at a discount rate.. they should easily be able to program the puter to understand that concept..LOL
that would eliminate the "selling" of passes....and still be a benefit for "us".

I too was surprised by the amount of coupons, especially the discounted admission tickets to both sdc and ww. BAF for $20? What a deal. if we didn't already have some from our season passes we'd be buying some of those.

Still waiting for my Times! Now with the holiday weekend, I know for sure I won’t receive anything until at least Tuesday. Hey, just because I already purchased my season pass in December of last year doesn’t mean they should cut me out of the Times. :P

I'm sure they didn't cut us out. With that many Season Pass holders it just takes a while to do a mass mailing. (I'm telling that to you and myself as well!)

Once it gets into the postal service, it's out of their control. This has happened every year - there's always people who don't get theirs for weeks.
Don't worry about it too much though if you're just waiting for the coupons. I'm pretty sure it's just like last year where these same coupons are in the pathfinder when you get to the park.

I too was impressed by the coupons... would definitely use them if we could make it to the park. With an August 31st expiration date though, not sure it will happen. We didn't plan to go back till Fall. Of course the call of the city is always there in my ear, so we might make it out earlier anyway...

^ My Father works for the U.S Postal Service, and he has so many funny stories about people watching for the mail, sticking random notes in their mailboxes for him, giving him cold drinks, and so forth. He really likes his job, and enjoyes the interaction with his customers.

On the front page mine has "Postmaster - Please deliver between June 27 - July 8." So tomorrow is the deadline for anyone who hasn't received one.
As mentioned before there are lots of neat coupons! It's just a shame you have to slice, and dice the Times to get them out.

According to the dates on my copy, today is the deadline so you should receive it in the mail today if they have all of your address, and information correct.

Short of calling them, how would I know if our contact information was entered correctly into the system that day? I gave them my email also and haven't received emails either. In years past, receiving the SDC times seemed to be hit and miss, with other family members receiving it at their address but not always at mine. I remember it coming late also.
Too bad you couldn't go on-line and register your season pass number and create an account, similar to my grocery store loyalty card. Good idea?

I would call their 800 number and make sure they have your correct info.

My oldest pathfinder goes back to 1969, but that is basically a brochure with a map and a bit more information about the park and cave. The modern pathfinders and mailers I have back to the late 90's. Suffice to say...I have a few over the past 15 years or so.

I could not imagine Rube even putting a single cut into his Times! I haven’t previously collected them, but I have saved the last several copies. They hold me over between trips. :)

I (we) never received out Times, so I called this morning to make sure the information they had was corrected. Everything was. However my teenage daughters (adult pass holders) are the season pass holders and SDC said they don't solicit to anyone under 18 years old, hence no Times. They were very polite and friendly as they explained their policy. SDC offered, with my permission, to send a copy out to us. Should get it in a few days!!!

I have called the office for different questions/concerns. even though i didnt always like their answers. The person i talked to was all very polite and tried to keep all their answers "politally" correct. :D

I have a buddy being deployed to Qatar pretty soon, and when we got together the other day, he (knowing my obsession with SDC) said, "before I leave I want to go to SDC Tuesday (tomorrow!!!)". Looks like I WILL get to use my Times after all! As part of our countries defense, hopefully we can get him there by opening for the raising of the flag. Fingers crossed!

Humble as he is, he has chosen not to take part in the opening ceremonies as he says it is just part of his job. I will pass along all the thanks from everyone. And I will also give a good detailed description of the Moonlight Madness.

I was in right between the two IRAQ wars. I was in the MO national guard in St Joesph when I lived in KC back in 2000 - 2001, I got out 8 1/2 years ago

I can tell you that when you see the condition some of the older vets are in during the opening ceramony, it will touch you. The way a soldier/vet looks at that flag while it is raised, makes me tear up each time I see it. They are the reason we can go to SDC with our families each year. To me, that's more than just a job.

I saw a grown man cry today. He fought back the tears, and fought through the emotions. He struggled and winced, but not in pain or sorrow.
I saw a grown man cry today out of the respect he had for our flag. This veteran was in his day an honorable, strong and fierce man; but now the winds of time have worn him down to but a mere fraction of what he was in his day. Fighting against the flood of memories that came when our colors were raised. Shaking and trembling, reliving all of his experiences from more than 60 years ago.
I saw old men in wheelchairs struggle to stand out of respect for the raising of our flag. These men gave all they could for our country and now at this ceremony, were giving their all to stand; to salute Old Glory once more.
I saw a grown man cry today, and I am proud to say that I too cried.

I picked it up off the counter and it had obviously already been opened. I tried opening it for at least 3 minutes before I had to say, "MOM!!! What is wrong with this thing!!" She came in and flipped it over, gave me a look, then just walked away.... Ummm, thank you?

My parents got theirs, but my wife and I have yet to get it.
I saw them over the weekend and they gave me theirs. It was torn in the center where they tried to get into it! haha, we had a good laugh. I told them there was a whole thread on SDCfans dedicated to the Times and how it was so hard to open this go around. They looked at me like I was crazy.
Oh, and for the first time in probally forever, it was addressed to my dad...NOT my mom.

Does it make me less than a real fan for not caring about the paper? I've grown increasingly impatient with printed advertising, and trying to find info among the hype. I already know I want to go, so just give me the numbers to help me know if I can, or not.
I get my nostalgia and vicarious enjoyment of the park right here on the forum, via everyone's visitor reports, favorite memories, and photos and videos. HFE couldn't spend enough to buy what this forum turns out for free.

The Times had coupons, including one for Joseph, so I kept it. Also, I always keep anything printed from SDC... It's part of my urge to collect anything I can for SDC. LOL

Got mine a couple of weeks ago also. Oddly enough I didn't buy season passes for this year (2013) and for the first time in 3 or 4 years it was addressed to me instead of my wife. The Times delivery algorithm may never be known...

It was a let down after I opened it. It is as Swoosh says - nothing new. I have to admit though - seeing it in the mailbox always gives me a thrill!
