I know at other parks you can get a souvenir mug and refill it. Does SDC do this? How much for the mug and refills?
Thanks a ton!! ;D
-
new mugs are 10.00, refills are about 2 bucks! that is for the big mug!
-
It seems like I remember as a kid that those refillable mugs used to be made out of glass rather than plastic. Perhaps I dreamed that? Either way, it was always fun to see which person in the family would be left lugging them around all day!
It is a good deal if you plan to quench your thirst with something a little tastier than water throughout the day.
-
we still have mugs from wildfire and buzzsaw falls. We get those refilled for the original price of 1.00!
-
There are a variety of sizes from the years past. Some are $1.00 for a refill, but moany are $2.00. The glass ones were stopped in the late 80's/ mid 90's (the last I have is from 95').

love the first one rube, all you need is hot coffee and a shot of baileys ;D
-
The Christmas ones held Hot Chocolate, and Hot Apple Cider (Before they started only serving wassail). The other mugs saw many, many saloon shows!
-
I wish they would re-issue some of these and sell them in the etched glass shop. Especially the one with the Wilderness Church on it.
-
We have all the same glass mugs...g'ma would always make my sis & I carry two "book bags" to lug them around the park, each taking tearns (she wrapped them in hand towels). She collected from the very beginning. I think we have at least three of each series/designs left (broke a few at the park over the years - oops!). We don't bring them much anymore because you can't get them. I asked at the glass shop last year if they would bring back...no real answer. Some of the vendors don't even recignize them, have to remind the discount or they say where did you get those?. We've gone to the new "big" plastic ourselves...that way we don't worry about breaking (can't break granny's heart that way). ::)
-
hey eagle1! you type pretty well for a one-armed bandit!. lol
-
nice ol'-school mugs rube! 11:41 of my video is a pic of some mugs we saw when we was there. but, they's sure aint shaped in any unique way like rubes.
heck, i wanted to replace my coffee cup i broke from the pottery place. but, the price went from $9.00 to $18.00! i said no thanks... so i bought a cheapy one in the HH for $7.00.
-
I had forgotten they used to be glass. Now I remember that I used to get stuck carrying them since riding roller coasters made me really sick. I thought of it as a punishment. lol
-
Those glass refillable mugs like the ones pictured above made their debut about 1982 or 1983. I have one myself. Used it to drink out of during my time at the diving bell. My wife and I both recently obtained the big plastic mugs with lids. I was wondering how long the big plastic mugs (for how many seasons that is) can be refilled at the current lower price.
-
We still have our glass mugs as well, along with the Buzzaw Falls mug and various others throughout the years, including a Tin mug from Thunderation during its opening year.
I have noticed that most of the "Citizens" still carry glass mugs with them and have them at their stations.
-
Thanks for the pictures Rube! The last photo is identical to the one I remember from when I was youngster. ;D
-
I have 2 of glass mug photo #3.
-
:'( :'( Man! all i have is plastic.... :-[ :-[
-
Though I like them all, #3 is my personal favorite. I don't use it for anything except to look at...maybe I should start drinking out of them...Again!
-
thought I would show you all my "vintage" collection of mugs. LOL
the middle one has flashing red lights in it.
-
I inherited the "Giant Swing" cup from 2007 from my parents. I have used it extensively so far.
-
hey eagle1! you type pretty well for a one-armed bandit!. lol
Ha ha took about 20 minutes to type......so tired of it already...5 weeks to go :P
-
I bet it did! but you will get better at hunt and peck as time goes on.. great seeing ya this weekend, cya in 3 weeks.
I like my old mugs, as i said earlier refill is only a buck!
-
new mugs are 10.00, refills are about 2 bucks! that is for the big mug!
While they may be "new", when I was there a few weeks ago I decided to buy one. Low and behold it was from "An Old Time Christmas 2008". They said they didn't have their new ones in yet, so they brought some up from their warehouse to try to get rid of. I thought as of last week while I was there, they still had some other old mugs as well.
-
your right about the new "old" mugs, i noticed that when i was there about a month ago...
-
The mug I bought for my wife this year in April was for last year's Christmas celebration. I have one from the Christmas celebration four years ago. They both work fine for the refills.
-
I never thought about it really, but could you bring an old refillable mug, and still get the same benefits? What if you brought one of the old glass ones? ;D
-
You can bring the glass ones and get the refill price....be careful though lugging around; even with the thick glass...again can break. I've learned that, really embarrassing/sad when one breaks at the park. Especially because you can't get anymore. :-[
-
NOPE! plastic is best, even if you have to buy one that is 3 or 4 years old! ;D
-
We used to have a loop of cloth with a snap/ button on the end to serve as a belt loop to carry our mugs.
I think at that time, the leather shop belt loops to carry your mugs, but I could be mistaken.
Plastic Mugs are better insulated, and if damaged do not leave the safety hazards that the thick glass did.
-
I use those keychain (carabiners), I put the chain on the mug and clip it to my belt loop, works great if mug is empty, out of the way and you know where it is.
OK?! funny. I tried to spell check, and I am so far off the puter could not figure out what i was talking about!
-
I believe that if you brought one of the older glass mugs you can still get a refill for 75 cents.
-
My guess is they would have to charge the current going rate for the plastic mugs, unless they gave you a break because the glass mugs hold far less than the big plastic mugs.
-
maybe not junior, They refil my older mugs at the 1.00 price. That is because that was the "deal" when I bought them.So maybe they would refill the glass mugs at their refill price accordingly.
-
i have some mugs that have a price others do not but they have always charged me the going rate when I get it refilled.
-
I believe that if you brought one of the older glass mugs you can still get a refill for 75 cents.
When we do bring the glass mugs (not often anymore) the refill price has been $.75 ; it does not hold as much as the plastic of course.
-
I could just imagine the expression on the faces of the new timers working concessions when someone hands them a refillable glass mug. :o
:D
-
Would someone mind posting a picture of the 2011 Mug?
-
my understanding is there is not a 2011 big mug... thus the reason we are seeing leftover christmas mugs.
there are smaller ones available they are HDH orientated.. sorry no pic.....
-

:D
It is funny...takes them a minute & sometimes you have to "fill" them in! ;D
-
Will they still refill the large glass mugs?
-
The general consensus of the post on this very thread has been yes you can. Which is what I plan to try it out the next time I go. ;)
-

It is May and they dont have the new mugs shame on u SDC
-
New mugs yet?
Please say yes! :-\
-
no large mugs, unless u slip doen to echo hollow during their show,, then u can get a lefyover christmas one..
there are new smaller mugs availablke with HDH pictures..
-
Ok i guess il just have to settle with what they give us. When i went for christmas 2010 the mug they gave me at the saloon was from christmas 2005.
-
Perhaps they are in fact waiting till Christmas before coming out with any new mugs this year. :o
Although I suppose that makes sense. I mean why would they order newer designs if there are still dozens of the older ones sitting around in storage.
-
I looked at the size and they are the same as the 2010 mugs
-
maybe they are not going to do new "big" mugs anymore.. If they are updating the small ones, apparantly they are selling?
-
I like them they fit in tje cup holder
-
I like them they fit in tje cup holder
Always keeping track of the important stuff I see. :)
-
Does anyone still have any of the old boot-style glass mugs they used to sell in the Saloon?
-
Yes, we still have a boot mug. Take the plastic ones to the City though.
-
Yes, we still have a boot mug.
Pictures please! ;D
-
I've still got one of those heavy glass mugs with the SDC logo etched in it, probably from around 1981 or 1982. I bought my wife a refillable mug with Christmas on it this spring...it was from 2008. I recently spotted a Christmas mug from 2007, a Kidsfest mug from 2004, and another Christmas mug that lights up at the base (and still worked) from 2004 at yard sales recently. The mug that lit up was free, the Kidsfest mug was a quarter, the 2007 Christmas mug was fifty cents. (Yeah, I took 'em home with me!)
-
Three Silver Dollar City mugs for practically a quarter each? Sounds like one fantastic deal there! ;D
-
thats a deal junior! i would have snagged em too!
-
I will give you a $1 each for those... ;)

OH NO!! here we go.. The start of a Silver Dollar City based Ebay!![
-
Awsome that sounds like it could be a lot of fun. It would be a quick way to grow our sdc collections.
-
Oh come on, how many of us would really sell, or give away our Silver Dollar City collections? A Silver Dollar City version of eBay amongst us die hard fans would never work. :D
-
At yard sales this weekend, I passed on four SDC saloon glass mugs with a train etched on them. If I purchased everything that had a SDC logo on it at yard sales I've been to, I'd fill up a room with old novelty items. Got no room for it. I gave some of my stuff away to Rube...sent it to him unsolicited in the mail. I believe in clearing my shelves, the small collection of items found a new, happy home! But, if Rube had to "purge" his collection, too, I'd completely understand if he gave the stuff to another collector or simply auctioned it on ebay. Eventually, it would find a happy home. That's what it's all about.
-
OHH NOO SIR!!! Those are a few of my favorite items and they are staying put now! I do have many items, but only a few are repeats.Yes they fill the better part of a room, And YES I will repay Junior with his unsolicited donations with my own work that is still coming along! If I come across something at a sale that I do not have, or that I just cnnot pass up because of price etc, I pick them up, and pass them along to others as well.
-

True enuf, and if we did start an auction our reserve would be so high it would never sell!
-
Yard sale today: Big SDC mug from 2007 featuring the big swing and grand exposition on it, price: 50 cents. Check out those yard sales, people, my wife and I have found four mugs like this just this spring and summer!
-
Nice catch Junior! Yard sales may be the ticket since eBay seems to be so hit, and miss.
-
I have got to pay more attention to garage sales! Calling my grandma this afternoon to inform her of her mission. I hate paying for mugs at the park but we do occassionally lose them and need to replace, plus with the kids getting bigger its harder to share.
Funny story this weekend... we have two of the little kids fest cups (they used to have color changing straws) we got several years ago, went to get a refill and the lady asked me how much fills were for that size (they are quite small) and I told her I thought 50 cents. She thanked me and said, "I'm really sorry but all 50 cent cups are 75 cents this year". I wasn't upset, took my drinks and went on, then I thought about it...how many 50 cent cups are still in circulation in the park? And did the price of soda really go up? At home I measured and the cups are 8oz, still not irritated at the girl, but the next day we just put a couple extra sodas in the cooler and filled the kids cups with that instead of paying 75 cents for the fill on their "special" cups. Thats my rant...I am sure by the next trip I will be over it and pay the 75 cents anyway...
-
IF you have any old mugs that were .50. .75 or even 1.00. the park attendents are instructed to abide by original refill price. I have old mugs from buzzsaw falls and wildfire, they are 1.00/. I do however remind them of the old price. Never been questioned or denied.. not much of a savings, but HEY!! 5 or 6 refills through the day pays for a funnel cake or some kettle korn!!!
-
You guys must have very old mugs all the ones I have that at least go back five years all give the refill price but also say price is subject to change
-
We have four of the old 50cent mugs. I was told as long as the refill price was not faded out, they would honor them. HAnd wash, people. Dishwasher will fade them out.
I'll say this, since the park has started selling the 20oz bottles, some contraband comes in the wife's bag in a slushy state ;D
-

As long as it's not moonshine it should be just fine! ;)
-
no worries there ozark.... moonshine wont freeze. therefore wont get slushy.
-
As long as it is made right...looks like water too! A bit more of a kick though, so don't go gulping! If you do, you're libel to take off as fast as that there powderkeg ride!
-
ok guys.. obviously we know way too much about this....................

Ok guys, I have something to confess to you. My family will be heading to Dollywood this weekend. We haven't been there in a while, and thought we would do something new this summer. We went to SDC in March, and plan to go back this fall and of course Christmas; so we have not abandoned SDC by a long shot!
Why I am saying all of this in the "Refillable Mugs" thread is because I am curious (to all those DW fans) if the SDC refillable mugs are accepted at Dollywood. I am assuming not, but just thought I would ask. We of course know we will get a discount on admission with our SDC passes.
-
Hmmmmmm?? ??? ??? ??? SDC mugs? DW? SDC?? DW?? ::) ::)
-
When we went a few years ago, Dollywood didn't even have "mugs." They had those sports' bottle type that are not insulated at all. We bought some since we went in two different days, but the ice melted really quickly. Maybe bring your mugs to keep your drinks cold--lol
I doubt they take the mugs, but you could ask. When we went, we were kind of an anomaly for Dollywood employees. At the time we went, an All-City pass (Celebration City days) would get you free admission to Dollywood. When we showed our passes at guest relations, the employees kind of used us as a training moment. Throughout the park, employees asked us if we were Gold Passholders. We told them what we did have--All-City Pass. Some gave us the big discount Gold Passholders get, and some gave us a smaller discount.
My point is--be prepared for people to not have a lot of experience with SDC season passholders!
-
stacey, i am sure you are right about not having very much expiereience with SDC pass holders... some of them probably never heard of SDC!! lol
-
I posted photos of my refillable mugs on Flickr. Also I posted photos of the FIRST refillable mug from about 1981 or 82, and metal and pottery mugs I used during my time as a "citizen." Click on the photos to enlarge them and read the captions below for more info.

Whoops! Let's try it again: http://www.flickr.com/photos/juniordugan
-
Ah, that's better! I should mention all of the plastic refillable mugs with the exception of one purchased on park (green Christmas mug) were all found at yard sales in my area this year, and purchased for anywhere from fifty cents to a buck each. Pretty good bargain, huh?
-
now all you have to do, is remember to take them to the park next time you go!
-
We have a little bit of every thing. Are you sure the glass shop is no longer selling the glass mugs? They were still selling them up to two years ago? I didn't go the last two seasons. But, I know I bought one last time I was there for my next kid. I always buy one for each kid I have.
BTW, the small glass mugs are 75 cent refills, and large are 1.50. When they first came out they would sell them in the park advertising it was life time refills at those prices and they would never go up. So the answer about still bringing them and getting that price is YES! I mainly use the 75 cent ones for ice cream floats, as I mainly want ice cream and not much soda and that's the cheapest way to do that. I keep them in my stroller, other then that we have always bought belt clips and each had to carry their own.
Also up to two years ago, when you broke one, if you just could pick up the biggest piece or two and bring it back they would replace them for free. We did that a few times. There was no problems in replacing them.
I've personally never had a citizen question my mugs. I have had to remind a few though that it is 75 cents and not 1.00.
As for the mugs prices and how long they last. You have to read the fine print carefully. The newer ones are worded in a way where the price could go up with out any warning that the season that the price is wrote on them is all that is garunteed for that price. I can't think of exactly how it's worded and I keep the mugs put up high in the cabinet until SDC time so I'm not going to dig them out. lol But, some of the older plastic mugs are worded for that is the life time refill price. So those prices never seem to go up. The newer plastic mugs prices seem to go up every few years.
-
BTW I should of bought some when I was there that year, but didn't. I could kick myself, but I have looked high and low at garage sales and not found any around here. If any one gets a good deal of the kids, kid fest mugs, I need about three. I mean of course I will take them in piece mill. But, just to let every one know how many I need. I will pay what ever you do at the garage sale and shipping for them. I would for sure like it to be under 3 dollars for the garage sale part of the price. Same for the buzz saw falls mugs, still on the look out for more of them. We have a few but want more. I would love a tin cup as well! I think they were one of the coasters.
-
I would love a tin cup as well! I think they were one of the coasters.
We have 1 tin cup of Thunderation. We got it the year Thunderation opened.
-
I have a tin cup from back when they were what were used in the Mine Restaurant...before they transitioned to plastic. But not Thunderation tin mug in my collection either.
-
dollar, I would like to see couple of pictures of the tin cup from TNT.. 2 or 3 views would be great! ;)
Thanks
-
While we were there in August we had our refillable mugs - one stamped $1.25 and one at $1.50. We were told we had to pay the current refillable price of $1.75 - new policy, even after I pointed out the price stamp. During one of my "purging phases" I actually threw away a glass mug and one old plastic one stamped $0.75 recently. :( WHAT WAS I THINKING?????
-
Say it isnt so!!! Threw away SDC items? NO WAY!!!
-
I remembered I had another tin cup ...does this count?
(I should be a hand model right?)
This also has a matching plate.
-
Vintage late '70s tin mug...probably purchased in the hospitality house or ozark marketplace. A Classic!
-
dollar, your pic didnt come up here. maybe try again?
-
Souvenir Thunderation Tin Mug, Purchased opening day of Thunderation.

nice, thats a great piece of SDC history!
