Post by: Copper on March 23, 2008, 04:55:58 PM
I am not making money by telling you this, but if you are a crazy about Silver Dollar City as I am, you will enjoy these.

The Story of Silver Dollar City by Crystal Payton (a new 08 version now available)
A Pictorial Essay of Marvel Cave
Marvel Cave: The Jewel of the Ozarks
Marvel Cave the DVD

These are all available in the Hospitality House of Silver Dollar City. They are great and full of pictures and history.

If you have any of these what do you think about them?

I just picked up the The Story of Silver Dollar City by Crystal Payton on thursday.  It is a cool book with lots of great info about the park.  It is only $8.99

I have the old 1997 version of The Story of Silver Dollar City. Is the 2008 version any different? If it isn't then I don't see the point in buying a new one.

^They didn't even update it from like the '98 season on?

Kind of surprising.

isn't that the book I have that said they were playing with the ideas of people staying on park overnight and being citizens for a day?

There are some small changes. They don’t talk about the CEO and they have edited HFE property information. They also have changed festival and ride info. There are three different reprints the first had a blue cover, second green and the newest orange. I am a collector, so I have all three.

Yes, Dale.

That was a Cary Summers idea, former CEO of HFE.

^^I'm not really a collector so I doubt I buy the reprint. I have way too many books as it is. I am going to get the Marvel Cave book and DVD though.

I've got all those except the Pictorial Essay one. I've also got two of the children's books that were published in the '70s ("Zeke Hatfield and the Ghost Named Rocky" and "The Day Toys Came to Silver Dollar City"; still waiting for an opportunity to get "The Littlest Mule").

I had no idea that there were previous versions of the Story of SDC... Would Ebay be the best bet in finding the previous prints?

^Yeah, I'd bet so. Either that or maybe some antique store in Branson or something like that. SDC won't be selling them anymore.

I got all 3 books from Amazon.com   You can find all sorts of used books there.  I think I paid 8.00 for The Littlest Mule and it even hade the record that came with it.  They have all 3 books there, I just looked.
