Title: How much is SDC's monthly utility bill?
Post by: jeffthephotog on March 25, 2010, 11:52:56 PM
Always sorta wondered how much it costs them to run everything...or do they generate their own power?

Of course they generate their own power. They use the steam from the train engine, and the water wheel at Sullivan's Mill to create power.

I'm just teasing. :)

Actually, I would not want to be the person in accounting who has to open the monthly utilities bill. Just think about every single light bulb in the park that requires power to illuminate. Plus, think about the thousands of gallons of water that must be pumped for each of the water rides. Not to mention the fuel expense of driving the trams back, and forth endlessly each day. :o

Whew! I sure hope my $77 Season Pass will help!

Um, the family members are multi-millionaires. Yes, I think your $77 season pass helps. When I worked on park, (78-84) it cost the park three cents to fill up a small cup with Coke because they bought syrup in bulk. They charged $1.00 for that cup of Coke. That's 97 cents profit. Pretty darn good markup in my book. Since a theme park has a monopoly on your day, they generally make convienence store profits seem low. As far as the utility bills...that's anybody's guess. Who knows. But they do have a whole room of accountants (they used to toil away in offices above the Ozark Marketplace, don't know where they are now.) and those accountants and their helpers stay busy. All the time.

It's probably just one guy and a high-kickin' mule-driven steampunk computer now.  8)  In Georgia. :(

Along the same ilk is this:  where does all the water from the restrooms go?  It has to be thousands of gallons a day, figuring every guest goes at least twice, at just 1 gallon per flush, with 10,000 guests...yikes!   :o  The maintenance departments must run at an insane level.
