Title: Walk through Walt Disney World in 3D using Google Earth!
Post by: Joy on July 23, 2009, 08:24:44 PM
Just found this on a Virtual Family Kingdom forum and thought you guys might find it interesting:

Can you imagine if we could do something like that for SDC?

Cool, but I'd rather see a "street view" version with actual photos. Maybe one day when they're closed, drive through with a Google CarWagon.  ;D

Oh, and for super coolness, quality rider-perspective videos from the coasters.

Well, hey, they've just recently started taking bikes around on college campuses and down sidewalks and stuff. I think the next step really will be for them to go through theme parks. It seems like that's the logical next step.

I was working one day when they did come through to film a street view van.  I am not sure what ever became of that.  Maybe they are waiting for all of the locations to be filmed.

It's easy to get "close enough" to Street View for all practical purposes. All you need is a tripod, a decent camera and stitching software. Shoot one 360 panorama, move 50 feet, and repeat.

I've gone back to "visit" the German town where I was stationed, and I've seen what has changed, because they have panoramic maps.

Bumping this old thread back to life, because I was just reading that Google will create street view maps of private properties (which is how Disney World street view came to be), if the owners request it, and Google thinks their audience wants to see it.

They'll use either a car, or their pedal trike, whichever is appropriate.

At SDC, they'll have to mount everything on the tall bike.

I can't even imagine trying to bike around SDC... I'd use one of those steady-cam structures that cameramen use for filming and just walk around the park.

Maybe the Rainmaker wagon then?

That'd be awesome!

It's new for the 50th anniversary - the Rainmaker Show, sponsored by Google Earth.

LOL -- any horse-drawn conveyence would do. Do they still have the Butterfield Stage stashed somewhere?

Oh, and of course they would have to do the train ride too. What about TnT?

The google trike is seriously geared down. I imagine it could handle the hills just fine. They could do the photo trip in the morning before the park is open, so no worries about theming.

While climbing down a 12,000ft mountain in CO this past summer we came across a Google Earth vehicle using a service road to reach 10,000ft. We are RIGHT in the middle of the shots up the road to camp #1. It was great to actually see the process up close. I could see it being done at SDC without much problem, and I would be on there every day I needed a breather from the hustle and bustle!

I'm just trying to think of any excuse to bring back the rainmaker.....who's with me?

I've got it on tape somewhere, I could easily memorize it, and just hijack the old cart and start performing! I have always wanted to just hop up on the medicane wagon stage, and begin pulling out the medicine man routine.

Holy cow...the rainmaker...wow. Talk about a blast from the past. I LOVED IT when I was a kid.

The only line I remember is when he would pull someone onto it and ask, "How long have you been on the wagon?"  None of the kids got it.

I also enjoyed the line the rainmaker used "I'm the seventh son of the seventh son...on both sides of the family! Hey, buddy, that's a pretty difficult thing...THINK ABOUT IT!" And I enjoyed the way the rainmaker ended his huckster speech after the rain shower by saying "Folks for $100 I'll give you a ground soaking rainstorm...for $50, a light shower...and, mister, for fifty cents, you can watch my mule slobber!" It seems I read a response to a thread on sdcfans that the reason the park officials gave for discontinuing rain maker shows is that the guy who played the original rainmaker, a long time employee, passed away, and they stopped the shows essentially in his honor, as even though many played the rain maker role, none could approach the mastering of the part by the original guy who did it. See an official SDC picture of the rainmaker at my Flickr site:
