Title: Theme parks vs amusement parks… what parks qualify as theme parks
Post by: Lampie on August 16, 2025, 06:25:45 PM
I'm curious how you all define the difference between a theme park and an amusement park?

What all would you consider theme parks in the US?

Obviously Disney, universal, SDC, and dolly wood are all theme parks.
I think holiday world is another clear theme park as well as Hershey park.

I don't think any six flags park(including cedar fair properties) would count as a theme park in my mind.

Any park where I feel there is a distinct, well—-theme, or "thesis statement." I would agree with all your parks and how you classified them. Any park with a hodgepodge of rides or attractions without a central through line or concept behind them I would classify as an amusement park.
