Title: Do you prefer the new LED lights?
Post by: mhguy77 on December 12, 2016, 03:20:55 PM
We were commenting on how bright the new leds were this year, not so noticible on the buildings but on the parade and trees.  I have always really enjoyed the blue trees but this year could not stand to look at them, flickering and way too bright.  I was wondering if it was just us.  It seems like a less friendly look than it was with the old cheap lights.
Opionions?

I like them. In some particular circumstances they might be a little "colder", but I love the fact that they are so efficient and last longer. This was the first year I had a house to decorate so I bought only LED lights and it's been great. They look really sharp in Fireman's Landing.

I love them. Not all change is bad.

QuoteI love them. Not all change is bad.

I only note negatives when they are used in large tight numbers.  Maybe I am sensitive to them.
I look forward to next year's addition and hope they learn from results this year.  I would guess they actually bought controllers and frames not the actual strands of lights.  I look forward to seeing it.  There will be have to be some changes and shuffling to accommodate this Osborn addition, if it's done right.

It sounds like they are building facades to put up on the buildings of Midtown to hold the actual lights.

Personally, I love the LED lights. I was at the city a couple of weeks ago, and it was foggy toward the end of the night. The lights looked fantastic in the fog. I use LED's at home, but only on the outside of my house. I still use the softer traditional lights on my tree inside.

Pudgy, I agree they look beautiful in the fog, but I miss the warmth of the old lights.  I'm not fan of the new cold lights, but they are beautiful - just not as warm and glowing as the traditional ones.

I didn't know about the new LED lights, and didn't notice any difference from last year's lights. Everything looked just as magical as last year.  :)

*sigh*  I guess I have to be contrary. . . .

I loathe LED lights for Christmas.  They are cold and garish.
