My wife and I were there to watch the Buffalo City Ramblers today... a great, great group.  Today the park was full of the Cox Health people, which I feel is a bunch of BS on the part of SDC.

Fortunately the Cox crazies and their families weren't big Homestead Pickers and Buffalo City Ramblers fans, as we were able to squeeze our way through the hordes and comfortably watch two Picker shows and three Rambler shows.  Except the Pickers didn't show up for the 2:30 show down at the shed...passed it off on Frisco and his buddy as they headed for Springfield and a festival up there. Said they'd be down there at 2:30, but didn't show.

Tens of thousands of people, COX day,  and SDC didn't have several rides running 40 minutes after rope drop, imagine that, not a surprise anymore.

Only reason we stuck around past noon was to see the Ramblers...great show...they saved a crappy day at the park.

We were on our way, saw how far the traffic was backed up, and did a U-turn.

Somedays they really just don't seem to be able to get it together on time.  If it was a rainy night I understand the need for things to dry out but frequently I have been there and that's not the cause of closed rides.  When you open the gates and don't tell people half the rides are down you are doing a disservice to your customers.

On our way there now.  Hopefully attendance isn't 24,000 today...

That's unfortunate about the late openings... that's big a huge pet peeve of mine at other parks, and I always bragged that SDC was better. Unfortunately the staff isn't there anymore that was so dependable and amazing. They've been throwing themselves at the six flags model harder and harder every year and are running away from the "old timers" who had higher standards about how to do things.

Interesting to see Echo Hollow packed out again.

Here now.  No lines.  We've waited no more than 10 minutes for any ride.

That's great! talked to Cheesehead this morning, they were headed out there again..

With only around 7000 people as of about 2:00 this afternoon, I am sure park is much quieter today...  be interesting to see how big of a crowd they have at Diamond Rio tonight//

I have wondered this for some time but not had anyone to ask... I know they forecast attendance to the park and staff accordingly. And sometimes they are WAY wrong. But who does this forecasting and what factors do they take into consideration? Weather is a huge one I would think, but in the midwest, can't get accurate forecast more than a few days ahead. Who does this job of forecasting?

I worked for the Holiday Inn corporation for many years and they kept records of each day of the year, weather, temps, and how many rooms were full.  When you look back after a few years you found that one year to the next was very similar in rooms per night.    Things in this business may be much the same.

The funny thing about the "forecast" for the day....

Last sat was Cox hospital family day,  they issued around 30,000 passes for Saturday......  But yet the forecast for sat was only 13,000 people...   OOPS..!  somebody forgot Cox and familes were  coming...!!!

No one forgot... It just was not on the same weekend as last year... Forecasts are derived from the prior year. A perfect example is Labor Day weekend. It was a whole weekend later this year and I'm sure the forecast (and labor budget) were all messed up, but will eventually even out.

My husband and I went to the park Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was more packed than any of the times we have gone on the Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving. Was unreal. Website said park was open until 6 but park was actually open until 10.  Echo Hollow was beyond packed. Tip of a hat to Lonestar who played Saturday night -- they really know how to entertain and were above and beyond accommodating to the multitudes of fans who wanted pictures DURING the concert.

Sunday was much less crowded in the park but Echo Hollow was pretty full for the Diamond Rio concert. This was the 3rd year in a row for Diamond Rio.

If I can help it I do not want to go on Cox Health or Mercy Health day again.

Forgot to mention the recorded music that was played before the concerts -- on Saturday night the music selections included songs by Pink, Imagine Dragons, One Republic, etc. Thought it was strange that pop/rock songs were being played before a country music concert. On Saturday night most of the recorded songs were country although there was 1 Rolling Stones song.

What!

Did they just plug in somebody's iPod or what?  That's ridiculous.
