Ok all you SDC historians, i was Googleing SDC & came across a few links. What can ya tell me about Goldrush Junction? Are the dates & info correct? Here is the first link....

Then the second link has a bit more detailed info. What can ya all tell me about all this?

Is SDC its own thing, or is this the way Dollywood got started?
As I understand it, the Tennessee property began as Goldrush Junction. When the Herschends obtained the property, they changed it to SDC Tennessee, and when Parton came on board, they re-visioned it to her brand of Dollywood, where it has, apparently, thrived.
The property in Branson has always been named Silver Dollar City - unless we are sticklers for the times when it was Marvel Cave Park in those initial years before they handed out silver dollars for change.
Anyone want to correct that or add to it? There has to be more discussion about it in these forums somewhere.
Sounds right, History Buff.
To my understanding, Dolly wanted to build a park of her own which would have been competition for SDC Tenn. Selling Dolly 49% was a wise investment and survival move all in one.
Former Names of Dollywood
1961 (Rebel Railroad)
1970 (Goldrush Junction)
1976 (Goldrush)
1977 (Silver Dollar City)
1986 (Dollywood)

Interesting and yes a smart move on both parties behalves.
If you dig through the forum archives, I'm pretty sure you can find some old Dollywood/SDC Tennessee/Goldrush Junction stuff written by a few people. There used to be a guy named something like 'DukeFan' who knew a lot about DW history.
thanks for all the info, folks! i never knew any of this concerning Dollywood & Goldrush Junction.
