We are looking at going in late June. We have a 6 year old who is 47 3/4" tall. How strict are they likely to be about him on the 48" rides? Are their sticks a little tall, a little short or dead on? We will probably go either way, I was just curious if the hive mind had any insight. Thanks.
Very strict, but at that height most rides are still available. The height restrictions are all on the SDC website.
I find that my kids measure shorter at sdc than they do at the doctor or school. Last time we went, Caleb had measured just over 48 inches talk at school and 47 3/4 inch the next day at sdc.
Of course, thicker shoes make for a taller measurement.
Hello everyone - been reading and enjoying the forums for quite awhile now, but I saw this topic and thought I could shed some insight.
My daughter is in a very similar situation and is less than a half inch shy of the 48" mark. She's seven and a little coaster nut just like me (she was five the first time she rode PowderKeg and loved it!). When we went on opening day in March, she wasn't quite tall enough to make it on any of the 48" rides. The second time we went, a month later, we tried the tall shoes trick. She got on Outlaw Run and the Barn Swing with no problem at all. Outlaw Run didn't even check her, and she just squeezed by on the Barn Swing (loved both rides!). However, when we got to the Electrospin, they stopped her and said she couldn't ride. I told the ride op that she just got done riding Outlaw Run twice and the Barn Swing, but they said the height measuring sticks are different at different rides. He said to go to the kids measuring station next to the kiddie coaster in the Grand Exposition to get an "official measurement". Well, the "official measurement" had her just below the 48". So, no Electrospin that day.
But, when we went about three weeks ago, we went to the "official measurement" station again with the same tall shoes, and they said she made it to 48". She got the official 48" bracelet and got to ride Electrospin for the first time (loved it!). Didn't even try Outlaw Run or the Swing because of the lines, but she would've been fine with the "official" bracelet saying she was 48".
I would definitely suggest trying the tallest shoes you have, and don't be surprised if you can get one some rides but not others.
The tall shoes help plus it is good to go to the measuring station mentioned in the above post and get measured in the morning (you are taller in the morning than in the afternoon). If you get the band they are good to go the full day.
They need to move the measuring station to the front of the park instead of making you walk all the way to the back of the park to get measured.
Another plus about the wristband from the measuring station is that they put some contact information on the band in case the kid gets separated from his/her adult.
