What do you think about the Landing? like the shops? like to eat there? never go?......Junior, rube, shave, swoosh, tinmann, chittlins read the last line in article, is that number right? Looks real LOW to me....

We go to the landing, but I absolutely hate the parking. We always try the free lot on the south side, but ultimately end up in the paid lots on the north. The last time we went, I didn't think we would ever get to leave the place because the "toll reader" was having problems reading credit cards....and it wasn't just mine either, all the people that were ahead of me were having the same problem.
I like the restaurants down there, but won't go to the Mexican place again....high prices, bad service. The shops I can get at home, so that part isn't a huge draw for us.
Jay
We have gone a couple times and it is really nothing I cannot get close to home. Chain stores and chain restaurants. Probably will never go back. I will still go to old downtown though.
I only go there when I have people with me and we are showing off the town. Come to think of it, I didn't go to the Landing (or even into Branson proper) last year.
When we DO go, it is to eat at Famous Dave's because my Dad likes to eat there.
We go to the landing almost every visit. Always park by Bass-Pro. Yep, most of the stores we can get at home (central Arkansas), but its great to get out and enjoy the surroundings and take a stroll. We like to eat at Joe's Crab Shack, because we can't get that at home. We typically go on our last day in town.

You got a better Bass Pro at Otter Creek if you like traffic.
My knock on The Landing are the entertainment options. Something that would make it more appealing to me is something that Memphis based Malco is coming out with and that's a complex that consists of Movies, bowling and a Dave and Buster's like game center. It's a combo of some things I think a revamped Celebration City should be, Entertainment/Shopping district with rides. A lower cost hotel(not Hilton expensive) down there would be nice as well
Love the Landing! It's a nice place to walk and enjoy the surroundings. I can't say that I purchase all that much; well, except that darn Bass Pro Shop pulls us in every time. We used to eat there quite often, but not so much since I've been diagnosed with celiac. :( The new owners of the Paddlewheel Pub did research their suppliers and let me know of a few things I can eat without the gluten, so I'm putting in a little promo for them. Yay! Go Paddlewheel!
We spend at least one evening each trip at the Paddlewheel having late night drinks (often to warm up) after a few hours of fishing on the docks. Thursday night entertainment is always nice, and it's just fun sitting out over the lake and relaxing. If you haven't taken a ride on the big paddlewheel boat, you should give it a try. I really enjoyed it. I think it's Sanddune that also stated he enjoyed the boat ride.
Gilligan,. yep! I love the paddleboat rode on Taneycomo,,, especially since they stretched out to a 2 hour ride... we set upstairs and take advantage of the bar they have on board.... relax, watch the wildlife and just "cruise"..
Also like the new Paddlewheel eating place... sit inside or outside.. and they have a nice bar... its great!
We also like to eat at the fish house when we want to have a "nice" dinner... food is always well portioned, and they also have a bar..... :)
Do you see the pattern here?? LOL... ;)
Sanddune, I see your pattern, and I have to agree! ;D
Regarding the employment figures...around 2000 employed at SDC is about right. So if the landing has just under that figure, that's pretty good for a mall.

Although I still miss "The Branson I Grew Up With," the landing has been a relatively good addition, but I don't like the long walk from the parking lots to each end of the mall area. I have access to about the same shops here in NW Arkansas, so going to the landing is not that big of a deal for me, even though Bass Pro and some of the restaurants like Joe's Crab Shack are something I cannot get down home.

Haven't figured out the lack of an Joe's Crabshack in NWA, Junior check the thread we talk NWA on, got a new downtown apt building rendering.
Thanks!

Thanks!
I put it on the Crystal Bridges thread....
A Flying Saucer Draught Emporium on the Landing would entice me.
Junior, I guess my point about employees was the article said HFE.... NOT specifically SDC....
So I thought HFE would include SDC, WW, SHowboat which (I think) have employment of over 4000 people..... (that sound right?).....
AND that doesn't include Dolly stampede,
or the Ducks.. (I know the dux are technically NOT HFE)
We like the landing because it us good for kids. There are places for them to run and they love the fountains.
Sanddunerider...you are right, it would include all the SDC attractions in Branson, and yes, to me that would be about half of what I thought it would be. But over the years they cut a lot of positions at the park, so it might be 2000 Bransonwide. Go figure. The folks in charge now cut staff to the point it can be rough for the ones working. Last Christmas, a gal working at the hot dog stand next to Wagonworks had a line quite a ways back and did everything on her own, no backup. I was ashamed to see that. Today though profit first, no un-necessary jobs that the company has to pay for. I'm being a bit extreme, I know, but sometimes I think the PTB today don't quite "get it" all the time.
Naw Junior. They get it. You actually said it in your post. "No unnecessary jobs".
I cant say every business is doing it, but every business I know is doing it.
--Our place just downsized by one person this week. And at my age, it may be real hard to find employment here. STL area is shutting down mostly. Hmmmm, maybe I should move to NW Ark.? I actually thought about SFSL again. It is great for part time work. You could never rely on it to supply the finances though.
On a good note. I already had 2 interviews, and another on Monday. The pay scale these days is very low compared to what I was making. But "hey" its better than unemployment.
Qwed, A company down here in Semo is hiring . Name is Mondi. It is a 24 hr 7 day operation though. I think 12 hour shifts. Seems to be a lot of work available in this area. But, I think I will stay the retired route.
Thank you runner. I checked out the website. Naturally, the only position available at that plant (or in the USA) is a R&D type position, they require all kinds of degrees.
I still thank you for the post.
I sure do wish I could retire, but Im just not old enough yet. nor do I think that tendinitis is a reason to claim disability. A good friend at Church owns a temp service. My brother owns a plumbing co. Im not real worried about getting work (YET). I just know that this is my last chance to finally get a job that I will enjoy. I think I might pick and choose for a short while first.
I havent had a vacation for 12 years. I am truly enjoying a short break for now. (I say that, but I havent even been off for a full week. Filled out 12 apps, had 2 interviews, and one more on Monday) OK-maybe I actually miss working somewhat.
Thanks to anyone who has a job tip for me.
