Hello,
This is my first post on these forums. I'm visiting SDC for the very first time next month and I'm quite excited! I am a tad nervous about not fitting on Outlaw Run though. I'm 5'7'' and just under 200 pounds but I have pretty big thighs. Hopefully I fit okay because it's an 18 hour roundtrip drive for me and mainly going for OR. What attractions should I hit up first? Also, what will the crowds be like on March 20th-21st?
Thanks,
Tyler

I'm not sure how Outlaw Run fits on me after they adjusted stuff, but when I rode opening day and later in summer last year, I fit okay, and I'm 5'3" and fluctuate between 240-255. You'll probably fit fine.
Tyler, you will be an easy fit...
I would think traffic will be light those days..
Enjoy your trip, and make sure you leave us a review!!..
Thanks a lot for your help, guys! I really appreciate it. I'll definitely leave a review on here after my trip!
Im about 5'9 and about 230 , I fit good on OR. I think you will be fine. However, if it is too cold, OR may not run. I would keep a close ear on the Branson area weather. KY3.com does a decent job forecasting the Branson area.
Welcome aboard
Here is the guideline for temps on the rides....:::

Thank you sand dune I forgot that link exists
Thank you for letting me know. I'll keep checking the temperature as the date nears.
;)
had some trouble locating it.,, but knew it was there somewhere ;D
A couple more questions I forgot to ask. What's the parking situation like at the park (fees) and has anyone been to Still Waters Resort just south of the park? That's the place I'll be staying at so I was just wondering.
Parking at SDC is free unless you are hotty toddy and think you need to park a few feet closer to the park. All parking has tram service to the front gate - so I strongly suggest just using the free lots.
yea the free lots are good unless you happen to have a wife that gets car sick and trams will not work for her. Then paying to park is still better than her getting sick before we ever enter the park. (I mean unless you are a "hotty toddy" like me and simply deserve the closer parking) ;D :o
I dont know anything about Still Waters.
There are always exceptions - and for some, the few feet closer to the gate is worth the extra $25. For me and my group, we are all young and fit. We plan on doing a lot of uphill and downhill walking during the day in the park (so what is a few extra miles going to hurt) and quite honestly we do not have a legit excuse to not use the free parking lots that are farther away from the main lot. FWIW, we always walk to the main gate as well, I don't think we ever rode the tram last year.
We usually just walk to the gates too. Then on the way back it's usually a race to the car. Too much competition in my family lol. Of course if we have grandparents with us we will do the tram thing.

Our philosophy is that by the time we have waited in line to get on the tram, we can already be at the gate (or our car).
My family and I stayed at Still Waters a few winters ago. It was REALLY nice, and quite a good price for how nice, too. I think you'll like it.
My wife has bad neck and back so we ride the tram. Also, I just enjoy the tram ride up to the front gate. Always considered it my first ride coming in. ;D

Thanks for letting me know. I'm looking forward to it! I got a great deal on their motel/SDC ticket package from SDC's website for next month.
You can always drop off those who might have problems riding the tram, and then go park.
Howdy,
I've been lurking for a spell and when I saw this Subject I just had to respond. My first trip was the summer of '72 (wish I could remember which month) when my family bought our fishing cabin on Bull Shoals. I've seen several folks mention having tickets punched before going on rides....but, for the life of me, I don't remember that at all. Oh well, it's not important. The important thing is I was fortunate enough to have experienced SDC in those early years. I remember being nervous about riding FITH as I wasn't a roller coaster fan (yet), but when I finally did ride it I fell in love. I can't remember a single ride back then that I didn't like and there was plenty to keep an 8 year old busy all day!
I've been fortunate also to introduce my wife to SDC a couple of years ago and she also has fallen in love with it. She so wants to cook in one of the giant skillets that it makes me want to find one for us to use when go camping. My wife was a Disney World fan and the parallels between the two parks (theme, customer service, cleanliness, and overall quality) is astounding. SDC, in my humble opinion, has become the better value.
Getting back to SDC memories...we went every summer after that until I graduated HS and I moved out of the area. Makes me wish my job was there so we could move back to stay....and to visit SDC every summer all over again. Just have to make that long drive to come back to get my SDC fix!
WELCOME! 1moreCast...glad to have ya here! Come visit anytime... ;)
One week from tomorrow until I leave for Branson! Not doing anything the day I arrive since it's an 8 hour (with stops maybe 9-10 hours) one way from my house. I am planning on checking out the area though. I heard the Farm House Restaurant was a good place to checkout. Any other restaurants or shops in the area that's worth visiting?
Hubs and I like Danna's BBQ on 165. We also like Cantina Lareda and The Paddlewheel Pub. Food at the Paddlewheel is just your typical burgers, chicken, etc., but it's a fun place to eat and sit by Taneycomo on a nice day.
The Rowdy Beaver has great food on the strip
I saw on SDC's website that they open this breakfast buffet at the park an hour before the attractions open. Where in the park is this place and does anything else (not meaning rides which open at 9:30 but other restaurants/shops) open before the attractions do?
The shops on the square are open.
Go Bears-the restaurant you are inquiring about is Mollies mill. Located on the square. Basically the square is where most people gather waiting for the opening ceremonies and chain drop.
Now then-you will go thru the ticket gate, remain forward-passing Delilahs (MMMM those cinnamon rolls), keep going thru the hospitality house (big store and Marvel Cave entrance). Then after exiting the store, kinda hang to the right, and Mollies is over here. ---- It is a typical buffet style breakfast with all the expected foods. (Sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, biscuits&gravy, pancakes, fresh fruit) I probably forget something, but the menu is available on SDC website
The stores leading up to-and in-the square will be open before chain drop. Everything on the other side of the square does not open early.
Have Fun BEARS !!!
Thanks a lot for the tips guys! I'll write a review when I get back home to northern Illinois on Saturday.
Bears, hope you are enjoying your trip!
DH and I will be making a quick jaunt down to the City this afternoon for a few hours. The weather should be absolutely wonderful today!
Don't forget Billy Gails right off 265 on the way to SDC.... Great breakfast! Huge portions....
I have heard lunch aint bad there either ;)
Thanks guys! Only got on 3 rides today and did the Marvel Cave tour. Didn't have great luck early on. I'll post a few photos when I get back to my desktop computer on Saturday.
Arrived at the park closer to 9 and explored the Hospitality House and some of the shops around the square at the entrance of the city. After the pledge and anthem, my dad and I headed straight for Outlaw Run only to find that it was down because they were removing a train due to problems. They held everyone at the entrance but a guy came down the line that was waiting to ride and assured us that it will be running in 10-15 minutes. After about 45 minutes or so and still not letting people get in the queue line, they said that they fixed whatever problem was with the 2nd train and they were adding it back onto the track. They did some test runs and after about an hour (10:30 or so) they finally opened the ride.
My dad and I got on the second train of the day towards the back of the train. I haven't been on many roller coaster in my lifetime, maybe only about 70, but this was definitely the best I've ever experienced. Even though there was an hour delay, it was definitely worth the wait. I was expecting the element right after the first drop to be the craziest part of the ride, but the first drop and the drop out of the turn that's beneath the lift structure were my favorite parts. The double barrel roll was fun and got some hang time on it.
Despite the unlucky start, things were looking good and I was filled with adrenaline after riding Outlaw Run. Next, I headed to Powder Keg. Got into the station after about 20 minutes of waiting but then it broke down and they told everyone to leave. One of the trains got stuck on the lift and they had to go get everyone off the lift. Two broken down rides to start the day. Next up was Wildfire and I was quite surprised by it. It was smoother than I thought it would be and the inversions didn't make me that dizzy so I enjoyed it.
Went and ate at the restaurant by the entrance with all the wheels inside. By this time the weather was a lot warmer so we checked to see when the next Marvel Cave tour was and headed out to the parking lot to take our coats off. Went back to the Hospitality House and waited for the next Marvel Cave tour. Waited about 30 minutes and then our tour began at 1:20. I really enjoyed it and worked up a good little sweat.
After it got done, I saw that Powder Keg was operating again so we headed back over there. This time we were able to ride it. The launch was pretty intense but it did toss me around a little on some of the turns. My dad doesn't have the best neck so it hurt him a bit. He wasn't feeling too well after but we still went back to Outlaw Run to check the line. As soon as we entered the line, it broke down again. As soon as we left the line, it started running again. We decided not to wait because my dad wasn't feeling great after Powder Keg so we headed back to our resort. Hopefully our trip back to the park tomorrow is better so I can ride Outlaw Run a few more times and try out Fire In the Hole and Thunderation. :)
Don't forget the Giant Swing!
Thanks for the review GoBears! Glad ya got to check out the cave! ;D
