Title: Spirit of '76
Post by: Sungod on November 01, 2013, 07:35:26 PM
Looks like those who were born or married in 1976 will get a free season pass in 2014. Guess who's wife was born in '76?

Mine!  ;D Wow, what a great way to offset my daughter becoming old enough for a pass.

I think it's cool they are doing it... but why this year?
It's not an anniversary year of 1776 or anything.  Just seems odd

I thought the same thing, Swoosh.  Someone mentioned keeping the centennial alive, but I don't see that and don't know what centennial it would be.  I would understand a recognition of the Civil War anniversary, but this seems out of the blue.

Not that I'm complaining.  I'm looking forward to the festival.  I hope they do more with it than a generic "celebration of America".  I want to see rich, meaningful events tied to it.

Well...hmmm...that's not all that appealing to me.  It was here, celebrated, and over with.  I don't know what else to say about it.

yea 76 doesnt include me or mine in any way at all. Im not sure how the 76 year ties in to anything in 14. I just wonder if they just ran out of ideas, and thats what they came up with.   Could be that an overly large percentage of the SP buyers will be 38 (or were born in 76).  Or maybe the opposite. Maybe a very small percentage (if any) was born in 76.  Im sure it has something to do with the surveys and personal info obtained.

OR maybe,,,  the new additions/ modifications is going to be ALL fireworks related,,,,  therefore  a "celebration"?

don't know just guessing at this point

That's my guess, too. New fireworks factory -- we shoot fireworks to celebrate Independence Day, etc.

It seems very oddly placed and if it had a tie in to the GG redo, wouldn't you want it actually done first?5

I missed it by one year. I was born in 1975.

The only thing I can think of is the official announcement might be tied into a show somehow?!?

At first I read it as sprit of "hwy" 76. But doubt that is what they mean.

Hey all,

Went to order five passes today and saw where the wife will take her ID I suppose to the ticket counter to receive her free pass for being born in '76.

I'm guessing since she has to wait until our first trip you are ineligable for the pass perks?  Not complaining about a free pass, just curious.

Thanks to anyone who is in the know.

You don't get any of the perks with the free pass. I got a free pass with the born in 1960 they did a few years ago,but did not get any of the extras. My husband got the extras with the pass he bought, and we went with that. It was great to get the free pass that year. We just bought passes for 2014,so hope to make it a few times this year.

My parents were married in 76.  They picked up their free 14 season passes while at SDC at T'giving.  Just had to show a copy of their marriage license.  As has been stated, you just get the pass...no extras.

I don't get the whole 76 thing either. What in the world does it have to do with anything. I think marketing is just out of ideas and grasping for something. Maybe I'll get it later but for right now it doesn't make me want to visit.

I have to agree about the 76 theme. It was great and made sense in 1976, but I don't see the connection to 2014 at all.

In 1776, we gained our independence.  That's worthy of celebrating more than just on a centennial anniversary.

What the bicentum et duodequadragesimus is not good enough for you?

What is the 238'th anniversary? Uranium? Get it ( periodic table joke)!

Geek please!
A nerd is a four letter word with a six figure income...something I definitely do not have...but I traded the income for the ability to be smart AND be SOCIAL!

It is just basic Latin words/ numerals that I teach my 6-8 grade gifted kids at school!

And also just the knowledge from teaching SS and WW2 that allowed me to remember U-238 as being Uranium.

yes. Its amazing how many times in daily life, you use those things of knowledge. "U-238"

That is a term we at work use (IDK)  --- "never"   ;D ;D ;D    Actually Rube, it was interesting. It might be the very thing the PTB was thinking about.

I do believe they are running out of ways to sell passes.  MAYBE---they should read some of these other posts about how other parks are selling passes with more payment options.

For this year only:  Every day, somewhere in the park, we will hide a piece of Uranium.  More adventurous guests may rent a geiger counter to aid them in their search of it.  Find it, and you can keep it!

OK, lets stay in tune with the 76 theme.   Lets either hide 76 pieces of uranium.   Hide uranium in 76 different places. OR hide uranium for 76 days.   ;D

Sanddune, I think the 2 of us need to start our own morning radio show.  I bet we could make them laugh until they fully wake up.

I do like your way of thinking though. ;D

Rube,

Aren't you a musician too? That's what I do to counteract my general geekiness. ;D
