Wonder what will be in the Red Gold Hall this summer........Maybe Larry (The tall street performer) can jump in. I believe I have seen him wearing a large NCAA style ring at one point in his tenure at SDC.

They are an entertainment company that is diversifing so that makes sense in that respect. They seem to be a viable entity. It is wholesome family entertainment.

This just goes back to my premise that Branson needs a small scale arena to host traveling shows like Ringling bros, the Nick show based and the Disney touring shows for week long runs. Should have been part of the convention center downtown like Summit Arena in Hot Springs. Could host things like cheerleading com, high school basketball tourneys and other things that bring folks in overnight.

They could make basketball close to them with bushel baskets and old school balls from the Naismith era.

Peach basket ball...YES!!!! old time baseball yes... games for young kids that gives them a history of the sport... rubber bouncing annoyances...NO!

I would like to see how a Harlem team would stack up against an NCAA team, as many of the roster is filled with former D1 and 2 athletes. Stage a CotO tournament! They are NAIA, it would be a fair fight!

Thats great news. Now we finally have a venue for the Grand Palace.   HMMMMM Think about that for a minute.  --- Or maybe the SOTH stage.?

Or do have a new Geyser Gultch theme???  ::)

OK really-on a serious note. It does appear that the RAMS will be leaving STL. Maybe-Just-Maybe HFEC and the owners of the Ed Jones Dome can make a deal to get some Globetrotters B-Ball in the ol Dome.   That would be a nice event to have there. Basketball is a major sport in STL, yet "oddly" enough, we have no Basketball team.

Peach basket basketball? I love it!

And for baseball, there's the Vintage Base Ball Association (http://www.vbba.org/), which plays by 19th Century rules.

The only problem with era baseball, is finding a reasonably flat spot for a field.

Well I guess I called it right. Looks like the Globetrotters will be in STL on Jan 3. I'm sure I will not attend, but I think it is close to a sellout. On behalf of the ticket holders, Thank You HFE.

I'd go wearing a Washington Generals Jersey! Gotta pull for the underdog!

They were voted the #1 worst team in history!
1. Washington Generals
This is a team that has lost every single game it's played since 1971. Every. One. Night after painful night, they are dunked on, have basketballs dribbled off their heads and have their shorts pulled down to their ankles. And the worst part about it is they play the same team every night! You'd think eventually they'd wisen up to the Globetrotters tricks and offensive sets, but it never seems to happen. They bring in the wrong players, their current coach has never won a single game, and they are doused with seltzer water almost every single night. They are an embarrassment to sport, and one has to think that, after 40 straight years of losing, they need to bring in someone with some fresh ideas and a lot of money to turn this thing around.

Peach baskets...a ball made of a rubber bladder with leather panels stitched around it would be the only one I'd allow!

Chitlins, Ever lived in or been to St Louis?   It is a very dark city with lots of love for basketball. Just remember "White Men Cant Jump".   The city of STL dont have to worry about that.  Now the only REAL reason that basketball would NOT do well in STL is because of the volume of homeless, (and/or) welfare ridden people.  I do agree Memphis is B-Ball crazy, but so is Houston , LA, and NY.
We do like baseball here, but mainly its because we have a team that does at least win a game occasionally.  STL has Hockey and Football too, however those games are never (or hardly ever) sold out. Thats because its a rarity to see them win a game.  Take a gander in the KC Royals stadium now. EMPTY compared to how full it used to be.  Chicago is about the only people I know of that will consistently fill the stadium for a consistently losing team.
You can bet though. If the homeless here could just afford a ticket, you would see sold out basketball events practically every game "here". (Well a true B-Ball game-not a mockery like the Globetrotters)

This is also a big soccer town.  Every year STL gets a world soccer conference and a college basketball conference. those tickets sell fast and for lots of $$$$

I have a coworker that buys a block of tickets for each of those events, then sells them on stubhub. He makes $3-$5k on them every year. ---- Dont let our red&white tshirts fool you in to thinking that we dont know anything other than a bat.

Again, outside of St. Louis, It's known as a baseball town. Sure the Blues had Hull,  but it's heart is baseball.  Own it, Love it. Dallas is a football town, anything other than the Cowboys is just time filler.  We catch a Cards/Cubs game most every year.

Email says since I am a "friend of Silver Dollar City", I qualify for the discount. Link in the email takes me to the Globetrotters website buy tickets page.  The email says to enter promo/offer code SILVER. I would think it would work for anyone if they entered the SILVER into the promo/offer code space on the page if they are buying tickets.

Springfield game is 1/23. Joplin game is 4/3.

Now who is dogging my Royals. Best season since 93 last year.

The problem with baseball is the lack of a level playing field. There needs to be both a salary cap and a salary base and revenue sharing across all teams. In any major league sport, the teams need each other to be competitive, otherwise the sport's popularity will eventually go down. The NFL has different teams in the playoffs every year. They are always almost the same teams in baseball. I love baseball, but I haven't been to a game in years.
Title: Re: HFEC purchases the Harlem Globetrotters.?
Post by: qwed94 on January 20, 2014, 08:50:55 PM
Well WE are really the problem with major league sports!
EXAMPLE. Just this weekend we was at the grocery store.  2 guys shopping, Each was complaining about the price of things, even to the point that they didnt "cart" some items that they both "claimed" to want to eat this week, but didnt have the money. -- When a chance meeting with a friend (in the store), they each pulled out 2 - $100 bills, and gave to that friend in exchange for a couple Blues tickets (each guy).    Yes these guys happen to be in front of us during our visit. I witnessed all of this.

OK I understand priority. But to complain about food prices (which we all need to eat) then throw $200 at a sporting event is a bit counterproductive.

We can fix it though.  Lets all stop paying for overpriced sporting event tickets.  1 year is all it would take.  Prices would get cheap. Salaries would get capped. (Bet you was wondering how I would piece this together wasnt ya)?
