In the past years they used to have different types of foods at stations in the hall, has anyone checked this out this season? I used to like the Mexican, they has a little condiment buffet but they did away with that a cpl years ago. I am wondering what they are offering this year.
I don't see anything on website about the hall, guess someone will have to let us know after this weekend..
I do see however, they are having events at the Opera House, every weekend, different entertainers each week..
The new Horse trick riders will be there...
Tinman, get down there and see if they have some Mexican food for me !
my wife really wants to see the horse trick riders. Im sure we will be there in Oct. I did view the website, but I dont have the time to look again. Are the horse trick riders there throughout the festival, or just a certain time (weekend, ETC)?
Qwed, horse trikc riders are there until oct 6
Mhguy, will let you know about food, but I doubt if there is any there if the horse trikc riding is in the hall/// .. be there tomorrow...
I wish they would do the food there again. I miss the Praire Chicken with roasted potatoes and corn. Good stuff.
The only time I ever knew of any Mexican food was during Worldfest, which of course was City authentic ;) Otherwise, there's a great one less than 10 minutes from the farm in Republic! ;D
They haven't had the food court in the Red Good Barn for several years. Very disappointing. They fill that area with that slide out, or whatever seating for shows now.
I think it has been at least 3 years since they did the food court in there during Harvest Fest. They do not even have the Best of Missouri in the courtyard this year. Sure do wish they'd bring back Headin' West in the Opera House
Best of Missouri is at carousel barn & randomly spread thru the park this year. Last year for Great American Cowboy, and possibly the Lye shop (closing end of Sept)...
Wait a second!! Really??? The Lye soap is goin away??????? Say it ain't so! We'll have to go back to washing with smelly Walmart stuff :'( :'( :'( >:(
MH, no food in the heritage hall..
Junior, I was greatly disappointed, BUT buck taylor was not there this weekend, apparently was at a rodeo event somewhere.. will be there this weekend and the rest of the festival. will talk to him in 2 weeks..
Thanks!

I would like to see Headin' West brought back, too. I guess the Pinkerton Man stunt show at Echo Hollow was supposed to be the replacement. Has anyone seen it this year?
I certainly hope the lye shop is not closing!
Biscuit, saw the stunt show over this last weekend.. appears to be just like last year.. LOTS of action! LOTS of stuff going on... LOL, it could easily be stretched out into a 45 - 60 minute show..!!! being a 25 minute show it goes by FAST!!!
Time to start making your own soap, I guess.

I hate to here the Salute to the Great American Cowboy is coming to an end. Is it not doing well or is SDC just trying to mix it up some?

Is the girl still screaming? I liked the show enough, but I sure got tired of the screaming. ;D
They have a different gal playing "the screamer" this year..
she is not as loud or as shrill as last years....LOL!!
I hate to hear that the foods are not in the hall. No Butter Cow either? what is this park coming too?
The biggest shocker is the Lye soap is going away...........that is the last to fall, I consider this the 7th sign....... I think we are going to end up with a Dollywood 2. Its a dumbed down SDC that has a small section in the middle of the park that used to "be" SDC TN, but the crafts are mostly done and gone, shops that are open filled with generic stuff. That's the direction our ship is headed in. Dollywood attracts the east coast crowd and we are middle America. Dollywood is not an escape from reality, SDC trys its best to be. I don't know that SDC can successfully make that change for the long term.
One long time "insider" I know told me earlier this year that "each year there is less SDC and more amusement park" and that the changes are the result of the decisions made in Georgia. This is what happens when the founders retire and are replaced with qualified people who look more at the bottom line than tradition and what got the company where it is. The people hired to replace the founders or those older employees who retire are doing what they can to keep the company "in the black." Trends in theme parks change, you cannot stand still while the competition passes you by. However, it is sad to see many of the traditional things were are used to seeing, lye soap, basket weaving, and other crafts go the way of the stagecoach, rainmaker, diving bell, Tom Sawyer's Landing, and other things that no longer exist at the park. Again I believe the SDC "product" is still far superior to what many other theme parks deliver, and five generations of my family have gone to SDC and we will go back.

Well said.
I knew it was over this year on Labor day weekend when I saw Duck Dynasty crap in the Knife shop for sale. Along with Swamp People Tshirts for sale. Times they are a changin.
Runner, you don't know how sad I am to hear that. I expect quality at SDC, not crap I can buy anywhere else. However, the bottom line is shops will offer what will sell. If not enough people feel the same way I do, and apparently that is the way it is, more and more junk will find its way into the shops. Seriously, if the PTB did a poll and 90 percent of people said they wanted a space rocket ride on Main Street I'd say look for it next season.

Junior, I was going to do a review , but was so dissapointed in some things I just held off because I did not want to be negative. But yes they are selling this junk. Not sure what the Robinson clan or the swamp people have to do with SDC. I even saw a first for me. 2 golf carts down at the riverfront about noon transporting people. Almost got run over.

That's just a whole lot of sadness!
I saw a golf cart at Christmas, one year - it transported an elderly Bob Hope out to light the tree. As much as it might have been necessary for Mr. Hope, I still think there is a 19th century alternative to these so-called solutions.
IF they are going to have golf carts, Paint them up to look like wagons/stagecoaches.... ;)

That's what I wonder every time someone mentions some thing called "Red Gold Hall"... ;D

Me too. :-\
I'm surprised lye soap has lasted this long, honestly. Crafts are hard work, and keeping the ever-rarer craftsmen busy costs money. Either they charge for their products so that very few guests can afford them, or the park has to subsidize them. Or, they go home to their own shops to work their own schedules and charge what they can without having to entertain guests in the meantime.
After Shad's passing (and even before), through the '70s and '80s the "blacksmithing" mostly consisted of pouring cast aluminum trinkets. As a kid fascinated with blacksmithing, that was always disappointing to me. So did the knife shop, which did modern stock removal instead of era-appropriate bladesmithing.
I don't know if the magic of hoop-rolling and hewing timbers for log cabins can replace basketballs and Dippin' Dots in this electronic age. It's sad, but whatever keeps the park going is going to rule the day.
Each of us has our own "magic age" of SDC where we fell in love with the park. In 20 years, parents will take their kids for the first time and lament that there's no Nickelodeon TV characters or Chinese acrobats.
I also miss Headin' West, so much that I created my own playlist of the songs (even if they're not quite the same). I am really trying to look forward to going this fall, but entertainment-wise, there's not a whole lot I look forward to. I know--first-world problem--lol. We will probably just go for a Sunday instead of a weekend. We also will go for Christmastime, but that will mark our third visit to SDC this year, and we used to be ornament-earners for sure! Our first visit this year was during the Great Snow of spring break.
I guess we just went so often that we're burning out. I thought it was because we had a toddler, but she is older now and trips are manageable. Maybe I'm getting too old, but OR was good for a couple of rides, but I would choose PowderKeg over it. I'd rather have a new Broadway-style show or play or something, but I love that sort of thing.
I know I sound like such a downer, and I do love SDC, really I do. But honestly, my family is looking elsewhere to spend our vacation dollars more and more. This summer, we traveled up to Minnesota and came down along the Mississippi. For next June, we are planning our second Disney trip in two years. I just can't put my finger on exactly what my problem is. Maybe it is the changes, even though I thought the "modernization" didn't bother me too much. Maybe some more special events would help, and I am waiting to see what will be involved in the new summer festival. I will think on things more when I visit in a few weeks.
No SDC for me or my family next year either sad to say. I am thinking of trying to find some other Ozark destination for next summer. For the last 4 years, I've come to Branson every year. I miss the way Branson was when I was a kid. I'm hoping to find something similar somewhere else
NO SDC next year? Well, come on down to NW Arkansas. Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is worth the trip alone. I still cannot praise this museum enough. You would have to go to Chicago, NYC, or LA to find a better museum, no kidding! It would be a nice day trip, maybe an overnight trip. Plenty of restaurants, lodging, Pea Ridge and Prairie Grove Battlefields, War Eagle Mill, Hobbs and Devils Den State Parks, two commercial caves, many antique stores and flea markets, U/A Fayetteville campus, Dickson Street in Fayetteville for nightlife. You get the picture, I could go on...
What? No mention of the Clinton Presidential Library, Junior?

That's in Little Rock and not NW Arkansas....
That's true. It's still close enough that I don't look for its position on the map.
