I'm not sure if you have been following this or not, but VERRUCK will be the tallest and fastest waterslide in the world when completed. The only stats that they will give out is that it will be 10% taller than Insano (currently the tallest slide in the world) when completed.
Here is the first construction update for the ride
http://midwestinfoguide.com/schlitterbahn/v/05.24/
We currently have footers and slide pieces on site.
They "claim" that it will be open by early July. It has been testing in New Braunfuls at the home office most of the winter. In mock-up size and full portions as well.
AND WE'VE GONE VERTICAL

You seriously have to check out this speed hump hill on this thing. INSANE!

This is gonna be a good one! Thanks for reporting Swoosh.
Looks like a late summer trip to KC for me.
Tower sections 3 & 4 have been added (the main support tower is now at its full height) -- it is MASSIVE (yes, that's what she said)
http://midwestinfoguide.com/schlitterbahn/verruckt/07.09/
I happened to drive past there this afternoon and it is just amazing how tall this slide is going to be. Personally, I will never go on it because I'm afraid of heights, but it will be a great addition to the park when finished.
YIKES! The workers on the staircase going up the tower are all wearing safety jackets! I'm staying on the ground and will watch the body parts shoot out the end of the slide! (Ha!) Good report and good pictures as usual, Swoosh. Thanks very much.
WOW!! Junior, safety jackets? or paracutes!!?? :o :o :o
1st Drop is FINALLY going up. I think it might be time to label this as "New for 2014"
http://midwestinfoguide.com/schlitterbahn/verruckt/08.14/
WOW! Gonna be good! Thanks, Swoosh.
The slide is almost to the top. You can see the top structure underway on the ground. Was told and maybe swoosh can confirm but the rafts will be very heavy like near 30lb heavy. Waits on all the slides over 40 minutes today with the water coaster over an hour for a large part. It was 45 minutes at 6.

they must have had a press conference..... LOL.. here is another article from Yahoo.
http://games.yahoo.com/news/the-world-s-tallest-water-slide--17-stories-of-insanity-231820367.html
I heard the climb up to the top was so high, people have been getting sideswiped by birds! I heard a low flying airplane almost clipped the hard hat from a construction worker! They were going have an elevator to the top, but the blue prints indicated the sudden rise up would have caused the air pressure to change too quickly, and most going up in it would have experienced nose bleed! (OK, I'm just joking with all of that... ;)) I think I'll stay on the ground and watch the bodies fly off the top of it!
Junior, I will be standing next to you ;) ;)
Are writers really this stupid? And why would your editor let you publish a contradicting story... Just read it and you will see what I am talking about.

WOW!!! JUST WOW!!! 600ft tall!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!

hollywood- I got it! If you all didnt. Read it again!
found this article..... new video I think....

A very stupid video. The article calls it a "virtual ride" but the video is anything but a "ride"

For me....the scariest part of that ride, would be the staircase.

opening delayed..:

Yep. Not too surprising. BUT SteelHawk (Windseeker) at Worlds of Fun is supposed to open that weekend still.
Looks different than before

Did anyone catch the Travel Channel show outlining the journey for Verruckt? It really made Schlitterbahn look like they were winging it. We especially liked when the raft, weighted with rocks, flew off of the hill; when I was there last year, even I could tell that would happen (and I'm not an engineer). It seems there would be computer models that could have predicted that!
First-person video:

From other videos I have seen it looks like they have really taken steps to slow it down while climbing second hill.
They leveled the grade toward the bottom of the drop, and it looks like they added a braking pad to slow the raft. They've also enclosed the whole thing with a net.

You can see photos before it was modified and how it looks now
NBC news ran a story on this waterslide tonight. Good story. I've decided it is too much for me!
No thanks ... The high slide at white water was enough for me!
Hope to ride it in early August when I am in KC.
I still remember what the Shlitterbahn park in KC was to be before the 08 collapse. I just looked ar the r3nderings for the indoor Riverwalk again and when you look at the park on Google Earth you can still see how that whole thing could still happen........one day.
Had coverage this morning on the Today show. Jill Martin, one of the Today show contributors, rode it with 2 Schlitterbahn employees. They wore heart monitors during the ride.
looks like it's been neutered into pretty much a log Flume. He may have been able to have just bought HolidayWorld's closed Pilgrims Plunge used and relocate it for the time and money that's been put into this.
Travel channel did an hour on the building of this ride the same night OR was on. With the original construction , the rafts with 700 pound sandbags would fly over the second hill and crash, killing all sandbags on-board.
"Neutered in pretty much a log flume"
Oh that's rich. Yeah, not exactly.
The boats are the same. I love how higher back rests and friction mats equal log flume.

I'll.ride it just the same. I ain't afraid of anything considering Dad did stalls in the airplane with me as a kid for fun to the horror of my Mom.
But, it's not like the Shlitterbahn folks are not buying used dry park splash based rides to install, they are.
Well... One Day may not be far off.
The original Shlitterbahn proposal never happened with the STAR Bonds but they did build a park and have slowly been adding to it and it's a nice park but short on shade. I was at the Galveston park on Tuesday and it has tons of shade even the lockers are under roof with those giant ceiling fans Anywho, they are once again pushing for a STAR Bond issue for the KC Park. Details are a bit lacking but it look like we'll know more by the end of August. I'm a bit miffed on the what sounds like a car dealership portion and trying to understand how that fits but KC possibly becoming home to the US National Soccer Teams is interesting.

Just got back from Shlitterbahn and boy what a disappointment. This was our first trip and probably the only one ever. Got there at park opening and 15 minutes before the line to get in was all the way back to the parking lot. We made our way to Verrückt to get our ride reservation time and by the time we got there 10:20 the reservations for the day were already up till 7 P.M. They closed the line for reservations about 10 people behind me. We could not stay that long so I got in the standby line as a single rider and by 11:00 they had not taken 1 person up the tower. I left disapointed but the attendant said the standby was 2 hours long and that was not even counting the reservations they could not do due to the downtime. Went to some other slides and finally saw it running. When it ran I timed it 7 minutes 20 seconds between boats. Looked like they were operating with 2 boats only. 1 loading and another being hauled to the top. Watching the thing I am glad I did not waste my time in line. I think it is a far cry from what they envisioned.
As for the rest of the park the only highlight is the River system. The other slides are slow and lame and even Whitewater has it beat. That is saying a lot. All in all a waste of $150.00 for the 4 of us. To few attractions and when you get on them they are slow and hardly get you wet. Worst water park I have ever been to.
You must have hit a bad day. We enjoyed our day there, last year, and found Schlitterbahn to be very unique among waterparks. The greatest improvement that's needed is shade, shade, and more shade. Sitting on the Kansas prairie, you would have thought someone would have done something about that. The other thing might be to put a maximum capacity on admission. Waiting in some of the lines can be a real pain.
This waterpark feels different than others. More of a swimmin' hole atmosphere. Less sterile. More homemade. Less plastic. It just has a different personality.
Granted, Verruckt has been a fiasco since conception. I wouldn't even want to get on the thing.

I found the whole place unorganized. Even the smaller slides were a fiasco. You have 2 towers with 3 slides each. ! attendant on top who has to watch 3 slides and try to determine if the coast is clear at the bottom for all 3. Most waterparks I have been to have a signal light system to inform the attendant of all clear. This made things very slow. And they just very short on thrill. Very poorly run. Next time in KC it will be WOF for me.
We went last year and it was very busy but the rapid river and the wave river were the kids fav because it allowed us to hand with each other. I just got back from the Galveston Bahn and it has tons of shade structure which was nice. The water coasters there was basically two of the same one. It has the two with round family rafts and a was just more comprehensive in slides comparex to KC.All slides had plenty of attendees manning them. KC has tons of room though and you see they are going for cheap incentives to expand. All I heard in Galveston was New Braunfels, New Braunfels, New Braunfels.
If Whitewater put in a wave river around the area they seem be expanding with the new Kau Pau ride(such a wasted opportunity) along with a nice water coaster and new slide complex with the newer style slides they'd be up there. Thing is White water had the rapids in a tube once and that's what shillerbahn seems to excel in
