Here we are again! Another snowstorm. We are preparred & staying home. Power has flickered twice already. We have lost DirecTV reception already.
Anyone else effected?
Ugh. Sadly school isn't cancelled here in Springfield, so I have to bundle up really good to go to my classes this morning. As a sufferer of Cold Urticaria, this weather is my archenemy. God, I hate the cold...
(tell us how you *really* feel, Joy!) ;-)
I am currently in the middle of moving. And at a stand still. Dang weather. Dang dang weather. Hope the landlord understands that I aint movin crap out in this junk!
I LOVE IT! The snow is so beautiful! The dog doesn't feel the same...
4th snow day in a row for me (I'm a teacher) and my girls (different district). My DH even called in to work. He ended up having to take our son into town for college, though. Every other school in the county is closed, but the college is having classes. Hopefully the roads are better when he has to go pick him up at 1:30.

I agree! Uggggg. Everyone else in Greene County is closed. ::)
power outhere since 630 this AM.. sent the wife to work in the 3/4 to 4x4 suburban.. got the generator going.. YEP~!! Love this weather,,
Who was it that said, "sure wish it would snow".... LOL
Yeah, the snow's fun as long as you don't lose power and don't have to go anywhere :D
power was off here about 8 hours, on now and holding steady!!
My wife's school is 30 minutes away, and was cancelled for 3-6in of snow, we had school because here it was just wet rain and slosh.
looks like the bark was worse than the bite.. our rural roads are already clear & just wet. hi-ways look good, & our power only flickered twice. i was just worried about this ol' farmhouse, that was some heavy wet snow.
here's alil' video we made. make sure & watch at the 1:30 mark, i get busted NOT helping.. maybe it'll give ya all a good laugh. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJV-0ZU9l0A
hope everyone else is safe & warm. ;)
We got 13" of snow here from Rocky and combined with what we already had from Q, we have over two feet of snow on the ground.
No school again tomorrow. This makes our 6th snow day of the school year
We got another 6" of snow today.... and we have another snow day on Thursday
I can't believe they're acting like it's never snowed before in Kansas and Missouri. You expect this reaction in Arkansas and Louisiana, but it's the Midwest!
More support for the notion that if you're going to live where it ever snows, then live where it really snows. We've had snow on the ground since mid-November at our place in New Hampshire. Getting 3-5 inches every day for a full week is just normal, and they haven't shut down anything. I think they opened school late one day.
The difference is when you get over a foot of snow in one day. I'm also sure that since New Hampshire is only 9,350 sq mi, it is a WHOLE lot easier to get the roads cleared in a shorter amount of time. Unfortunately, New Hampshire is the same land mass as only 6 counties combined in Missouri. Not too difficult to do the math there.
I dont think it was so much the snow that got us as is was the ice. And back roads. Curvy back roads. Curvy hilly back roads.....I dont like to drive them the best of days...
There's the main problem. The number of back roads that are in rural school communities.
They're still digging them out here in Linn County. The main roads all appear to be fine now, though. Nothing like going one day, then having days off again.
The last two weeks (including this week) have looked like this...
X Tu W X X -- M X X X X
The next time I see my "Purple Day" classes, it will have been 12 calendar days since our last session.
Welcome Back to the "First Day of School"
KMN
Does your district make up those days be decreasing Spring Break or going longer at the end of the year? My district has never really had Spring or Easter Break, other than Good Friday and sometimes the following Monday until recently, so that's never been an option for us.
Our "Spring Break" consists of Th, F and M of Easter Weekend.
It sounds like 5 days will added to the end of the year (we were to get out May 10th) and that the other day might be taken from Spring Break IF we don't have to use any more Snow Days.
Though we are getting close to the "magic number" where you don't have to make up days anymore due to snow emergencies
I think the most we got in one day was 16", and about 30" total over three days.
Each town handles their snow removal differently, but the state trucks run around the clock as needed (we live on state-maintained road).
The biggest difference is that almost everyone plows. I think I've got the only 4WD truck in the county without a plow.
ok, well i received a little over 30 inshes in 5 days,,,,,BUT NO wind, so it was easy to move and dig out... most of it gone now, have had 3 days sun and over 40 degress,,,, ;D
BUT today is 13 wind chill!!! ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) after 55 yestarday..
COME ON SPRING!
So we added a week on to the end of the year. Luckily our state forgives every other day after 6 days -- so we've made up one already and we have 5 days left to make up and then the 7th day is forgiven.. make up #8 if it happens and then #9 is forgiven and so on
We had about a week to make up a few years ago. In addition, the state forgave a few days, but the board decided we could make them up anyway. We let one of those days go. It was hard on families that had early vacations booked.
