Yeehaw! After numerous e-mails sent and surveys responded to SDC listened. Their website shows this year's saloon show as Outlaw Fun- The Return of Mean Murphy! I am pumped!
I LOVE MEAN MURPHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Oh, YAY!
Outlaw Fun? Hmmm...Outlaw Run? Ah, whaddda know?!? A TIE IN WITH THE NEW COASTER! ;)
OMG. A tie-in with Outlaw Run with a return of Mean Murphy?! OMG. YES!
I do hope that some elements of the recent show remain, because I felt like in the last year especially, they'd really gotten all the kinks worked out and it was doing great.
thats great news.......... and new things just keep on comin!
Yey! Lovin' the Mean Murphy!!
Good news!
I can't wait!!!

Too long :D Actually I think it may have been around 2002 or so. I believe in 2003 they did the Choctaw Charlie and Miss Tilly get married show for the 30th anniversary of the Silver Dollar Saloon and I don't recall Mean Murphy being involved in that one.
Wait a sec. There was a show of Miss Tilly getting married? That seems to have been during the time when I had a few years of not going to SDC after my parents' divorce.
That's really weird, 'cause for a few years now, I've actually been thinking about how it'd be cool if there was a show that revolved around Miss Tilly getting married! (although it was her getting married to Dusty Chaps) I even have sketches of a wedding version of a saloon girl dress for her! LOL
Got to admit, I had a period of time where I was concentrating on my radio career, and didn't keep up with things at SDC. So how many different saloon shows have their been over the years? Here is what I am aware of: 1) Carrie A. Nation Raid Show (Original) 2) Mean Murphy Show 3) Miss Tillie Gets Married 4) Miss Tilly and the new talent audition show (the one from the last few years or so) 5) Saloon Christmas Show (But how many incarnations of this show alone have their been?) So somebody help me, please? Just how many shows and what years did they run?
I'd like to know that, also. Mean Murphy must have played during my hiatus from Branson. I don't remember that show, but I like hearing about it.
Last time I saw Mean Murphy was a few years before my brother graduated high school. That was in '04. Im trying to recall the summer but they all blend together so well.....
Mean Murphy is for sure on my list the first trip down. :D

I think for 1 year only in 1991 at the Saloon was Buffalo Fred's Wild West Show. I liked it. I can't remember if the 2003 show actually showed Charlie and Tilly getting married or if it just led up to that and ended before the ceremony. Maybe Zephon can answer this one.
Anyone see the new show yesterday?

New show? Did I miss something?
Oh, has it opened this week? If so, yes, please, someone report on the new show!
Gilligan....they are listing the saloon show as "new" this year and calling it "The Showdown at the Silver Dollar". The description asks "Can the Saloon gang cause Murphy to mend his wicked ways?" They are bringing back Mean Murphy. The website says it was supposed to open yesterday (the 11th) and it is on today's show schedule.
Thanks, Smoke! Yay for the return of Mean Murphy!!
Go Mean Murphy!!!! Whooooo!!!
Our whole family really enjoyed the new saloon show, especially our son - we went to see it 3 times. The guys playing Charlie an Mean Murphy did a great job.
The new show is available on youtube and very similar to the one I found from 2002
sure like the new show~!!!
THANKS to the PTB!!!
Excellent show...especially good when the right actors are there. I'd put it up against any singing/acting show in branson pound for pound.
My daughter and I sat in the living room the other day watching several of the different versions of the show from over the years. It was great fun
Okie, that sound like fun! where did u get copies at/from?
various youtube searches ;D
Saw it Saturday and was very happy with it. Cute show, excellent performances.
It's basically a reboot of the old Mean Murphy show - which is fine with me.
Now to bring back the classic shows in the Riverfront Playhouse!!!
I'm so sad. I still haven't had the chance to see the new show. If I'm lucky, I'll find some way to make it down during Harvest Fest so I can see it.
I forgot to post that my family and I saw the new Saloon show back at the beginning of July. It was the Mean Murphy show I remember from the late 90s or early 00s, but with a few new items instead. It was pretty good; I recommend you go see it if you get the chance.
So, with word that the Salute to the American Cowboy will not be returning next year :( I wonder if the Mean Murphy show at the Saloon and the Western Stunt Show will be back? I certainly hope so! we saw the Mean Murphy Show 6 times this year and the Stunt Show twice and enjoyed them every time. These shows don't get old to me because of the different ad libbing done by some of the characters during each show. Funny!
with or without the "American cowboy", I am real sure that mean murphy will return.. I am also pretty sure since the stunt show is only 2 season old, it will return also..

How do they guage how long a show will run? Contract? Attendance?
The stunt show is different. It is a contracted show where everything else (Dickens, Wonderful Life, Heddin West, and the like) are produced in house. You have to ask "What brings attendance?" The stunt show may be good, but there are not 1,000nds of people wanting to see each performance. Even when the park is having a slow day during Christmas, Dickens will be full every show. My guess is that the Pinkerton Man will move on, and they will stick to more "Festival" style shows, like the trick riders.
Hollywood, you may be correct.? the stunt show "contracted", but yet they use several SDC employees? ok. not sure how all that works...
But I hope the Trick riders do not come back. saw it, was less than impressed. did not go back to see it again...
Now IF they actually did some trick riding.... ;) ;)
Well according to the SDC website the 2014 National Harvest Festival does include the return of the Pinkerton Man and a new Wild West Show! Yeehaw!

^ that's good to hear that they are adding a new show. I heard they got a new director of entertainment so maybe he has some new ideas that will be successful
Did the previous director retire?
