Has anyone tried the red velvet funnel cake? I might be adventurous this weekend and try it. I will be searching the park for the apple dumplings. The hubs would rather have a smoked turkey leg than anything! They are really good! What are all of you hoping to taste?
Apple dumplings are in 3 different locations this year.
1 is at the front door of frisco Barn,
2 is over close to FITH,
sorry, dont remember #3
Wassail...
Haven't really had any of the others...
The red velvet funnel cake is OK but so expensive. If I am not mistaken its 8.99
Apple Dumplings and hot chocolate with the works are our family's SDC holiday favorites!
The Works & Wassail are my favorite, not food....but ya know what I mean!

I've always looked forward to wassail and "the works", but last year it was undrinkable on more than one occasion. I've heard several mention that it is much better this year, so both of them are on my list. One more day!
I am stepping out of the christmas "box"....I love the "Walking Taco", and they only serve it during OTC... So I get 1 every trip, that and the Appple dumplings, I am pretty foord satisfied ::) ::) ::)
I just ran into a walking taco over the weekend. Genius. I wasnt at the city. But for 2.50....I didnt think that was bad at all. And it looked oh so good!
Walking tacos are a popular food item on the lunch menu where I teach. We also serve them at sports, fundraisers, etc.
What exactly is a "walking taco"? I saw the stand, and made a quip to my friends about how there's wassail and cappuccino and then smack in the middle of that is a taco stand...
LOL!!!! Walking taco;;;;;;
Take a 1.00 bag of nachos chips, crush them in the bag,
turn the bag sideways, using scissors cut of the side seam...
now you have broken chips in a bag,
spoon of taco meat,
lettuce,
cheese,
taco sauce.....
plastic fork..
Viola!! walking taco...NO mess..
Joy, you don't know what you're missing! A walking taco is a snack bag of fritos that is opened and topped with taco meat, cheese, beans, sour cream, salsa, etc. Very yummy!

My heart just stopped.....
I am a Apple Dumplin kind of guy :)
Gilligan, NO SOUR CREAM (please) ;D ( sour cream BAD@@@ :o :o :o :o)...... And I dont think there are actually any beans in the mix.......BUT it is GOOD!!@
MH<!! No worries, dumpling are easily available in 3 different spots in the park,.,,,,,,, ;D ;D ;D
However the walking taco is only available on the main square in front of tyhe ice cream parlor
Anybody ever get a turkey leg for $98.99 or whatever crazy price it is? First OTC I attended, I saw the price and laughed out loud. (Of course, this comes from a guy who lives in NW Arkansas, home of George's, one of the biggest turkey producers in the world. Turkey is everywhere down here...chicken, too! (Ha!)
no, i havent ever done the turkey leg thing for that exact reason... ??? ???
My kids love the Walking Taco's too. Isn't there another Walking Taco stand down by the Saloon?
I used to really like the Chile in a bread bowl. The first few years of OTC they actually kept this warm in a cast iron kettle over a open fire. But that was when you could get in at Christmas for 5 bucks.
Parson, No,,, the taco stand was down there 2 years ago, last year was on the main square where it is this year..
My husband loves Red Velvet cake, so we got one of the funnel cakes a couple weeks ago when we went. Yup $9 hurts! It was good, very rich. Because it's so cold out it cooled off very fast. The two of us only finished about half of it. Probably won't be getting one again. But if you have a group that can finish it quick before it cools off (and don't mind the price) I say it's worth a try.
We eat breakfast/ lunch before we go...and then end up usually getting soup, or pizza at a local restaurant for dinner-anything warm that we can take back to the cabin and eat in our jammies while wrapped up in a blanket is good.
I did try the do-it-yourself smore one year...good, but I am not a big marshmallow fan, so I would have rather had a big bag of kettle corn-something I am not sure, but I don't think they make in the winter.
they were selling kettle corn on the main square just east of the Tree when we there 3 weeks ago..... AND the kettle corn stand by GG was open also..
How does the make your own smores work? Is it an open fire? A 'mallow roaster much like an easy bake oven? Do you select how much/little chocolate you use? Price?
From what I remember you could choose (now mind you it was 10-15 yrs ago!) between cookies and graham crackers, there was a fire pit with metal fork/ pokers they would place the marshmallows on, you would then do all of the work...you would roast the mallows to your liking, then they would hold your cookies, and chocolate and help you get the mallow off and onto your smore. (maybe it was different for adults, but as a kid/ early teen, thats how mine went.)
I was standing by the smote (I know how to spell it, but it I keep get corrected!!!! Argh!!!) ANYWAY, you roast your own marshmallow over a fire pit, and then it's sandwiched between two chocolate chip cookies. We skipped on the red velvet funnel cake, but sprung for a turkey leg. Seriously, it was worth it! We got fries with it, shared it, and still brought some of it home with us. The cinnamon rolls at Delilah's were warm and fantastic!! FINALLY, ...FINALLY, got to try the apple dumpling. It is my new fav treat! Hubs and I split one - he got all of the cinnamon ice cream since I'm lactose intolerant, which left most of the dumpling to me. We got one by the Saloon show. YUM!!

Welcome to the Apple Dumpling Gang, Gilligan! ;D
I am a HUGE fan of that movie...Needless to say I am going to have to get another one next time I am there (it has been nearly 15 years since my last one)

YUP...and proud of it! ;D
Really? Are the turkey legs really that expensive? What would make them so expensive?

with giant turkey leg comes giant responsibility (and caloric/ fat intake)
WebMD.com, in an article about food at fairs, festivals and amusement parks, reported that a "giant turkey leg" has 1,136 calories and 54 grams of fat.
I had one years ago to experience the mammoth cave man style meat gnawing...Needless to say I will not be revisiting the emu sized turkey leg.
That was a tradition for me growing up. My mommy always purchased one for me once a year. I dont get them anymore. It just doesnt taste the same. :-[
Rube, thanks! I needed to hear that! Not! ;D It's a good thing we split it.
Josh, I think with fries a turkey leg is about $12. Yep, that hurts...

The smile on your face while eating it: priceless
I have never seen the attraction of a turkey leg. They're tough and full of tendons and connective tissue.
I don't think it's just OTC food, but fried chicken!!! I had two pieces of my own, the one piece my sister didn't eat, and the rest of what my mom didn't eat (for some weird reason, she uses her fork to eat fried chicken).
And the second we walked through the gate, my sister said "I want a Walking Taco!!" then she got another one while we watched the parade lol.
Indeed Missin' ! The smell is intoxicating and the flavor is great (the brine and injection of the turkey is wonderful, but I would eat it in moderation seeing that it is so muchmore than your daily salt intake (recommended is 2300mg, most eat 3100-4100mg per day)
But the calories at SDC don't count right? If I learned anything, it is that SDC is a vacation, and those are guilt free meals!

Tiff..~~~ I like your sister already!!!!, Luv those Walkin Tacos..!!!
I had a walking taco yesterday. It was pretty dang good!
Well...my cinnamon rolls failed and I burned the glazed nuts! I guess I should have eaten my fill while at the park! It's pbj and grapes for me tonight! I QUIT! :(
My favorite is not an OTC exclusive either. A bowl of Succotash every trip, no matter the festival. However, turkey legs are always in season and good.
