Title: Branson traffic
Post by: How-doFolks on November 17, 2012, 07:31:37 AM
Do you think traffic has gotten less respectable? I know its something we all have to deal with, but it sure seems harder to get someone to let ya out. I myself let alot'a people out, i always think someone will honk at me for letting too many people out. ??? But hey, we aint going no-where at 2 mph!

Just trying to fire up the ol' board. ;D

I avoid 76 whenever possible. When I think it's going to be a busy day at the City I come in from the west. Getting caught in traffic all the way to nearly the dam taught me that about four years ago.

I have not been on the strip in a loooooong time. I will here in 12 days though. The traffic on the strip is nuts! But I look forward to it in a sick kind of way. I mean, its kinda made its way into the ol memory banks. It wouldnt be Branson without the crazy crazy traffic. Part of me would miss it should it vanish.

i agree. i settles me to see all the traffic in Branson & know everything is thriving. we usually leave SDC early & head into town to do all our fun things so we dont catch all the traffic, because we always stay in Branson West.

i guess the newbies to Branson traffic just dont care.. :(

We avoid 76 at all costs!  Most of what we do is off the strip - lakes, Landing, mini-golf, SDC. Even our fav restaurants are off the strip. When unavoidable, we try to plan our timing early enough before/after shows to avoid the crowds. I hate sitting in traffic.

I do a lot of activities/shows on the main strip... i use back streets, parking lots and other short cuts to get around.. I use them going to the show AND getting away!!!  LOL

you can get to almost any place on the strip, and only have to drive a couple of blocks, if you can find the "short cut" ;) ;)

Green yellow blue or red. Anything but the 76 strip

There are some really good shortcuts (using side roads and going through parking lots) that we've discovered.

We usually get a map first thing at the motel for reference using the routes around town. I put it in the console just in case. We know most short cuts to get where we want to go. 76 is no place to be if your in a hurry. We only cruise the strip when traffic is moving good and we want to see whats happening there. Traffic can be bad in downtown Branson too, its just not as long.

When just coming down to go to the City we come down 13 and never make it to Branson at all. :) When we come to spend time in Branson we avoid the strip (usually). Mostly we use the side roads (red, blue, yellow, and Green Mountain drive). If the hubs is driving (which is basically all the time) he knows what he is doing and doesn't need a map or anything. (Benefit of being from the area.) On the rare occasions I am driving in town I have a couple of the promotional Branson maps in a clear page protector that I keep in the glove box (with a few key locations highlighted for easy reference) as well as an actual Branson city map that I have used before. Of course, that isn't to say we never go on the strip. We avoid it during the times we know it will be busy (before and after show times), but are fine with using it during less busy parts of the day.

We came down 13 instead of 65 last time (Dec.1) and it sounds like we missed a long line from Branson on 76. We didn't have to wait in traffic until we were on Indian Point Rd, and that was a busy weekend. We went that weekend (Dec. 1) instead of Thanksgiving weekend to avoid crowds. It was really packed with people and I wonder if Thanksgiving weekend was less crowded after all! Can't win them all.

Never have trouble, but I know the town well enough to avoid traffic.
I usually use 465 if I'm not going into town and it's just a down and back trip to SDC

Love 465!!!

Sometimes we go that way and then back into the west side of Branson, rather than using 248 or any of the other "routes'..

Well you can call me "crazy", "weird", or even an idiot, but I go to Branson to slow down a bit.  I live near the big city of STL. and work even closer to STL.  Everybody is in a He77 fire hurry just to get a piece of gum.  I have witnessed car doors recieving gunshot wounds simply because that car was going 70 MPH, and that just is not fast enough. (Realize in that stretch of road the speed limit is still 55)

So I actuall enjoy the slowed down speed (or even "stopspeed") of 76.  Yes we do use the other routes if we want to hit a certain show or be somewhere quickly, but that very seldom happens when we are in Branson.  We know how traffic is, and plan on it. We sort of enjoy a nice liesurely cruise down the strip.

You might be an old-timer if..

...you remember when there was only 76, and you were so relieved to spot that bumper sticker on the front of a car:
"I'm a Branson native, and I'll help you
<-----TURN LEFT!"

I'm all for taking it easy, and I don't mind the traffic all that much, just stopping on hills gives me a bit of heartburn

Has anyone else noticed people using the turn lane as a third lane to drive extremely fast on (20mph) down 76?
Or cutting through the parking lots as a way to get 2 or 3 cars ahead?

Nothing annoyed me more this year than when they chained off the Red Roof Outlet Mall road that ran behind White Water's parking lot.  That was my "short cut" to get to the Blue Route from 76.  Oh that pissed me off

I used that road several times myself. Yeah it upset me too when I realized it was closed off. We generally stay on the blue route, so the Red Roof lot road was a nice cut off.
