Have you ever thought back on some experience or opportunity you have had while at SDC or Branson that you later said to yourself I regret doing/not doing that? I have two I'll share:
1) I went to high school in Branson with Bruce Herschend. One time Bruce invited a small group of us to go on a Marvel Cave tour after park closing that would have involved us getting into coveralls and hard hats and crawling through narrow passages on our bellies with bats all around us! For whatever reason, I was NOT able to go! That opportunity will never come my way again! :-\
2) I also went to high school with Kelly Trimble, whose dad, Mark, owned Shepherd of the Hills at the time. Kelly invited a small group of us to "camp out" overnight in Old Matt's Cabin and explore the farm late at night. Can you imagine popcorn popped on the hearth and sitting around telling ghost stories all night? I was NOT able to go! Boo Hoo! :'(
Passing up the craftsmen for a day program, now it looks as if I may never work at the park...just for one day!
Leaving. :-\
Not applying at College of the Ozarks...knowing that If I went, I would not ever come back! Too bad I stuck around thinking my rock band would go somewhere..but on the bright side, I met an amazing girl in my college job, and started a family with her a few years later. Would I have met her if I had left...yah, we were meant to be together...but I'll take the wife over the college experience! Don't let her know I said that though!
My biggest regret was transferring with my job down here to West Palm Beach, FL 5 months ago from Kansas City.....Looking to transfer back soon once another open position becomes available...I NEED MY FIX!!!!
oh gosh, too many!
telling my wife she wont get wet on the water boggan ride. she was very wet & angry with me, ??? ( ofcourse she wasnt my wife at the time.. ) we had to go back to the motel so she could change clothes.
doing a timeshare thing so we could get free tickets to see a show called Spirit of the Dance. we listened to their deal very patiently & respectable, but when it was time to go they hounded us so bad it made my wife cry. >:( i finally stood up & said WE ARE DONE! plus we had to leave SDC at 2pm so we could go do all this.
many gifts at SDC i regret not buying. many weekends we have canceled our trips to SDC because of the weather is prob'ly my biggest regret. :'(
theres prob'ly more but i just cant think of'm. these just popped into my head 1st.
How Do...someday I might need to downsize, and at that time my collection more than likely holds something you regretted not buying, and at that time you can get it!
Haha, I know how you guys feel about regretting over not buying that souvenir, or handmade piece of artwork. I can't count the number of times I skip over something, and think I could just pick it up next time. Nope! It's always gone. Even in the main gift shop.
I've got two that are eerily similar...
My Family always visits in the fall & at Christmas (the summer is too hot & crowded), so we rarely get to ride water rides, LROTO, AP, RB, etc. One fall my wife and I were considering riding the Wilderness Waterboggin, the weather was warm, it was early in the fall season so the ride was still open and we wanted to ride it "just for old time's sake." We decided not to ride because we were planning another trip in the late spring/early summer of next year. We promised ourselves on that next trip we'd ride all the water rides when we were dressed for it. We missed our chance, because we were shocked to find out that the ride was permanently closed at the end of that season. Should have just braved the chances of being cold and wet for ONE LAST RIDE.....
A few years ago we were hanging out at the park during OTC, the weather was cold and rainy so we had the park to ourselves; it was practically empty. Early in the day I stopped by the "apple shack" which is what I called the apple butter store that used to sit at the splash down of AP. I enjoyed an apple turnover, warmed up in the cabin, chatted with the citizen working there and thought about how much that area of the park reminded me of my family visits in the 80's. My dad would always take us on AP and then stop by the gun/knife shop and watch their LIVE shooting demonstrations. I went back later in the evening and took shelter from the rain under the porch of that cabin and got some pictures of the Christmas lights. Little did I know those pictures would be my last ones of that building as it was torn down after that season.
From there on I'm always careful when I'm taking that last walk out of the city on our last visit for the season. I make sure not to look at something and think "that's my favorite part of SDC" because if I do I'm sure it'll be gone over the off season.
I've actually thought about walking into GE and saying out loud "THIS is my FAVORITE spot in SDC!" just to see if it would be gone by next season...but that's a topic for another thread...

That's awesome Kentucky!
aw, thanks rube! remember, i still have that souviner paperback thingy that you dont have, i would prob'ly take it in trade. :D
I never once rode Buzzsaw Falls. There was a time of 10 years, I didn't visit the park.
I never had a chance to ride the Tobaggan or Buzzsaw Falls! I visited the park on a few occasions when the Tobaggan was there, but the lines were massive, so I didn't ride. Buzzsaw Falls fell into a time when I didn't have a chance to visit SDC.
