Someone just posted on the 1branson board this morning that Aunt Polly's restaurant is closing in 2 weeks. It's going to be torn down so that a pizza restaurant can be built. Post #7 in the thread below:

Noo!!!!! :'(
NO! SAY IT AIN'T SO! PIZZA? BOO! :o I can get pizza in town. I want ham, beans, and cornbread!! NO! NO! NO!
Well we knew there was a rumor floating around that will happen....
rumor is that aunt polly's will be gone along with other "buildings", ...
"supposedly" this is part of an expansion/modification to help with traffic in and out of wilsons farm and of course the OR area..
I am waiting anxiously to get offical word form SDC or other sources.. AND to see a new footprint of the area...
that sucks pond water.. :( but, the last few times we ate there it wasnt a great exsperience. the ham & beans was always good tho', just alil' slow on service. but thats to be expected when any place is busy.
i did just sign up on 1branson.com - my user name is the same as here, just so ya all know.
Yeah, I stated this fact several months ago.
Interesting that they're just now getting wind of it. ???
A LOT of things in that area will be removed. :o
Swoosh, that is my understanding alsa, but like yourself, I have been keeping it to myself.....
I have yet to see a "plan" to the new building/area...

I hope it will be open Saturday! That's where the hubs and I talked about having lunch. ~so sad~
I would think it will be open through the end of Fall Festival... which is the 27th..
And probably will see some demo going on during OTC >:(
Interesting, I had completely forgotten about this, but I do remember us talking about this possibility several months ago. It stinks that a traditional food option is leaving the park, and it stinks even more that we'll lose some of the old architecture and part of the storied Tom Sawyer's Landing that we all have fond memories of.
However, I'm pretty excited to see the area be rebuilt. You can't deny that it's gotten a little messy down there with the closing of the Landing and the awkward pathway up to the farm. There's a lot they can do here to liven the area and bring in the city atmosphere.
The fact that they're apparently going with pizza instead of beans and cornbread is just an inevitable fact of life for the park. I doubt sales have been robust there, while at the same time I'm sure the young families are complaining about there not being enough familiar comfort foods like pizza. There are some new food items coming to the park in the Outlaw Run area that should be interesting though.
On our last trip we went in there and it was dead empty. Husband wasnt impressed with the looks of the catfish. He so wanted some good ole catfish but the size was puny and looked like regular frozen fish. I know its for the masses but put some effort. Anyhow, it is still sad to see a memory go. But so many more will be made. Hopefully the pizza place will have special pizza and not just normal stuff.

Good catfish is hard to come by. There was a shortage of quality catfish last year due to high feed prices, many catfish farmers threw in the towel after already being battered by cheap, poor quality imports. As the the remaining farmers tried to raise prices, cheap replacements like tilapia took over menu space. More catfish farmers are calling it quits and catfish quality continues to suffer. I find it funny how restaurants have spun the marketing of that fish as gormet which is the equivalent of crappie. It grows faster so there's the advantage. Even wonder why skinny jeans took over a couple of years back, well fashion industry was facing higer cotton prices due to a shortage from weather across the globe at a time of recession. Less material for skinny jeans so it was the new trend. Even noticed slim fit shirts reappear. All market driven phenomenon not fashionista genius.
My father was a fishing guide on the Mississippi River from time to time, there were times where over 100 1 to 2 lbers filled our coolers on about 4 to 5 poles in a single day. Have them cleaned on the havles back home and have fish supplied for months. Same went for crappie and bream.
Never ate at Aunt Polly's...
LOL! rube...!! thats funny,m i have never eaten there either, but was tempted to give them a try since they will be gone next year.....thought about it, we took a vote, and the Philly sandwhiches won again!!

Thought about eating at Aunt Polly's during WorldFest but there was no menu board posted outside like you see in this picture. Couldn't see the prices on the menu board above the counter from the doorway, either, plus the place was jammed at the time. We decided to go on.
You can already get pizza at Mary's Springhouse! But I guess they wanted a dedicated pizza place for the city.
We didn't eat at Aunt Polly's as often as we do the other restaurants, but it was always 'ok' when we did. I too will miss the architecture of the place. That area of the park has changed drastically since I was a kid growing up in the late 80's- early 90's. The good ole' Tom Sawyers Landing is long gone.
Swoosh, do you or anyone else know if the original 'ball room' with ropes above will be taken out? (The place where the wax hands are currently located)
llar, lets wait for the official announcement to see what the PTB say ;) ;)
OK, I understand the changes...but this one is, again, a bit hard for me the "old school" guy! The building was "Candy and Cream" while I worked there, and my friend Jackie worked there during those years, so I have fond memories of the building. I'd go in there every day to get a hot fudge brownie with ice cream on my afternoon break! YUM! The Dugan Boys would go up there every day or so and get the stale, left over popcorn and bring it down to Lake Silver so the guests could feed the fish in the lake. The guests, especially kids, loved it! There were some big 'uns in the lake back then. Over the years, the building served in various capacities, the peanut butter palace, and recently Aunt Polly's. So the shop will be removed, a new building put in place, and some other landscaping and "routing" changes made to better open up the Wilson's Farm/Outlaw Run area to guests for 2013. Progress, and time marches on. Man, I remember when the Wilson's Farm area was just some woods between FITH and the train to the diving bell. In fact, it was a backstage area where the old Welch's Vineyard puppet show wagon and some other old props, including one of the old Case Engines sat when not in use. Now, the area is well developed. I look forward to seeing the area next season. I wish SDC the best of luck with the changes and the new rollercoaster. Hope to see you all there! :)
I'm "old school" as you are, Junior. I'll be sad to see it go. If indeed it is removed, I sure hope something goes in its place that has the same look about it. That's probably going to be the ideal location to put in pizza, BUT I want my ham and beans. Isn't that the place that used to have the big caramel and/or candy apples? You had your choice of which one you wanted. Both were good!
I will take the sign. I call dibs on it!!
I am not too far up there in years, and love a good thrill ride, but I would trade it all to go back to the SDC of the early-mid 80s. I don't mind the expansion and all the other additions, but really when I think of my average, or usual trips, it involves all of the classic parts of the park, and barely any of the new stuff...just saying...
I worry about this happening to the Springhouse as well - they have already made it where it isn't open every day.
there is doubt the new building will be properly themed... I just wish we had some way to see dad by day or week by week progress....
There will be a lot of work done in that area in about 130 days....... would like to see it. :D

Agreed. Is it irony that by my choosing to only visit long established locations and bypass new places is my way of stepping into my own time machine to relive the memories of a great past? Hmmmm....I thought that WAS the park's theme, but I feel like I have to put the effort forth sometimes to be immersed in it.
I did read in the online Pathfinder that since Aunt Polly's was closing up shop for the winter (that's what it says), Miss Mary's Springhouse is adding some new menu items of fried chicken, fried catfish, and fried chicken tenders.

Interesting. A mix of southern fried food, and Italian. They might as well rename it to Mary's All You can Eat Buffet. :P
In years past, Mollie's Mill did the chicken and spagetti thing on their lunch/supper buffet.
Here is a link to the some of the last pictures to aunt Polly's.. I took them sunday the 4th,,

Thanks for taking those pics sand! It's definitely bitter sweet. I'll be there in two weeks, so I am curious of the changes between now, and then.
Thanks for the update pics. I cant wait to go in December and see whats what.
I'll be there tomorrow for an evening visit! I cannot wait to see what it looks like...even though I will be running through the park...I will still take note of what is/ isn't there so I can take a closer look Saturday.
My first view of this was from the main path while on the Run for the Lights. I tried to peek in through the burlap to see what was going on...some old concrete footings, and a water pipe or two...not alot else.

Oh my! Silver Dollar City is sneaking something in on us for sure. Here I was thinking the only thing we were getting for the 2013 season was a fancy new rollercoaster. ;D
Hmmmmm...I'll be visiting soon for the Old Time Christmas, looks like I'd better tour the park and pay attention to all the changes, plus, bring a camera!
