SDC recently got a new app for the I phone. On the old app they said the update was so big they needed another app!
Downloaded it afew days ago. Hope to use it on labor day weekend. I also hope it works as well as the Disney apps do inside their parks.
I downloaded it yesterday and had a hard time getting it to function properly. I guess I'll try it again today.
would like to see an app for the droid series also :)
There is one for Android! :) You can either go to silverdollarcity.com from your device's web browser and it will automatically prompt a dialog box that asks if you want to download the app...OR you can just search "Silver Dollar City" in the Play Store/Market and it should be the first result. (made by "accesso MOBILE")
I downloaded it a couple weeks ago and it's a decent app. It covers information for SDC, WW, and SBB! Wish it had a couple more features, but it's better than nothing!
I downloaded it this evening, I will let ya'all know how it works (it already is better than the old one!)
got it..looks ok... have to check it our closer.. :)
We had the iOS version on our ipad. Didn't even know about the Android one. Thanks!
laying with the droid version,
1 compliant/concern.... unless i am just missing it..(which is always psooible..LOL!!)..
iafter you start searching/cruising the app, I dont see an easy way to return to home page...I have been backing up through the pages....OR just get out of app and start over,,,,,
Any ideas? what am i doing wrong.../!!??
What sorts of things does this app do?
At the bottom of the homepage you can view the schedule, a GPS enabled park map, and links to their social media pages and local weather.
Choosing "Silver Dollar City" gives you the following info:
It tells the Festivals and Special Events left for the year and the special events tied to each (so performers, any special food, etc.).
Gives ticket prices and looks to be able to purchase tickets online.
Rides & Attractions gives descriptions of the attractions and any height and companion info.
Shows gives a description of the shows (but no schedule or venue info).
Restaurant Guide gives you an idea of the types of food at each eatery, but sadly doesn't give a menu or price list or anything else more useful.
Retail Shops gives a description of the shops, but no location info.
Park Services has info on parking, strollers, First aid, etc.
In my opinion it's an ok app. If you do like I did and skip right to the SDC info you miss the map and schedule info (which would be the really important things to most visitors I would think). I would like the info pages to be able to link you to a schedule or something (but I know nothing about app building--it might be beyond their capability?). I haven't done a side-by-side to compare it to the iOS version of the app. I'll try to remember to do that today when I get home.
I liked the old app better, but I'm technologically challenged, so maybe when I figure out how to use it, I'll like it better. It definitely needs to list the show schedule, and menu items would be a big help.
I downloaded the Android version. It is a great app for people new to SDC. As an SDC veteran, I pretty well know the location of everything, what each store sells, and what each restaurant serves, so it isn't really that useful to me. However, I wouldn't be a real SDC fan if I didn't have it on my phone!

YEA!!!! What he said!!!~!!!!!!
I installed the Android app, and yeah, for their first go, it's pretty cool. But there are SO many things I can think of that I'd like to see added to it, I wish that I knew how to build apps myself.
I'm looking forward to some new photos of the city taken with the Panorama app in iOS 6. Sure, there has been a lot of panorama software out there for years, but this will be easy to produce quality stitched photos with, automatically.
The only limitation I don't like is that it seems to be restricted to 270 degree shots.
I went to check out the app but saw that in the permissions it got to access my phone number, address/phonebook, calls, serial number, etc. etc... Since there is no need for this app (or most others) to access my personal info, and that of others in my list, I declined the install. I'll never understand why so many app manufacturers are so overreaching. Even many you pay for try to gain access. My plea to SDC (and other app makers)...if you have no really good reason to try to tap into info, dont. If you want customers to look, give them a reason to look (highly usable app) but not look over their shoulder. YMMV.
