Title: Damaged or gone..
Post by: How-doFolks on May 02, 2012, 08:39:13 PM
Have you ever lost or ruined any of your personal items while at the park?

Ofcourse, i have ruined afew t-shirts by droppin' food on them. I had a pair of red tenna shoes on 1 time while at the park, & went to Guyser Gulch & got super wet. My socks were wasted, & red! Back in the day, cigaretts were always in danger of getting wet. No problems with that anymore.

I dont think i have ever lost anything tho'....

Lost a camera when it was hung by a person in our group on the stall door in the potty, and they forgot to get it upon finishing/ leaving. Somewhere, someone has my photos in their collection!

Not really lost, but someone stole my reusable mug when I was standing at the counter at Sullivan's Mill.  I always wonder if they drank the spoiled orange juice that was in it.

I've said this in one of the other forums, but here it goes anyway:
I was wearing a pair of baggy sweatpants and I forgot my phone was in my pocket and I went on WF. The phone fell out of my pocket and when the ride was over, the phone was sitting on the floor of the ride. I guess I can thank gravity for that! The back did fall off tho, never to be seen again, and I had to keep the battery taped in until a few months later at prom, the phone got stolen.

My son who is now 21, was 15 when he lost his brand-new Blackberry Pearl while riding Wildfire.

We stopped at Lost & Found to report it, but of course we never heard anything back. Thankfully, it was insured and he got another one.

A friend of mine lost her phone on powder keg. We reported it to lost & found and sure enough a few days later we received it in the mail with a letter saying they found it under the second hill! And somehow it wasn't broken! Miracle!

I was in the park and left a $1700 Nikon camera sitting on a rock wall.  Walked away from it for a second and never saw it again.
Ashamed to admit that but its true.

I've always been super careful about not losing things, but one summer my wife and I went to SDC with the intent of riding the water rides we usually miss on our spring/fall trips.  We locked anything that could get wet in the car and I went into the park with nothing but my wallet and the key to my car (took the ring and keyless fob off to keep them dry).  I spent the entire day nervously checking my pocked to make sure the key hadn't slipped out.  We were leaving for the day and wildfire had no line, so we figured we'd go one more time since there was no waiting.  I checked before the ride and the key was there, but sure enough, after the ride I checked my pocket and NO KEY.  We stopped at the stroller rental by OM and they called a locksmith who met us in the parking lot.  No offense towards branson residents but the "locksmith" showed up with his girlfriend and I couldn't get over the fact that they had 4 lit cigarettes in the car for the two of them, and I think I had more wisdom teeth on my bottom jar they the two of them had in total teeth between them...pretty shady characters.  He had the car open in about 90 seconds and he said "$60", I handed him my visa (I don't carry cash), he said "cash only."  I was worried, but he followed me to an ATM and I got the cash out to pay him.  Fortunately it turned out ok, but I was pretty worried I'd have an unpleasant experience with an "Ozark collections agency." My wife was nice about it too, she knew I felt terrible about it.  I carry emergency cash now...I've learned my lesson.

I remember the day when the local police department would do this for free.

I have even toyed with bringing a spare key to assure that^ doesn't happen to me Kentucky!I have gone on several..umm...how do you say..."jaunts" (picture instead of Ferris Bueller's Day off but going to SDC instead)and I have always worried about being locked out, or losing my keys etc. My worst fear, other than the unknown factors in travelling 4 hrs away without anyone knowing...I would leave my wallet or license somewhere, and I would get phone call that it was found. That or having my spending show up on a credit card reciept! Thankfully I have been unscathed for the most part over the years.

used to keep them under the hood, BUT cant open hood anymore.......
Cant use the magnet under the fender anymore...(plastic)....

Use a small, flat carabiner and hook your key to a belt loop near your pocket.  If it flies out of your pocket, at least it will be hooked.

^I started doing that about 3-4 years ago, and it has worked like a charm. I carry them on a caribiner daily, clip them on my briefcase/ bag/ man purse, workout bag etc. It comes in handy for sure!

I would say I have lost a few pounds walking the hills, but unfortunately I didn't lose anything, I simply relocated the weight until I got lunch or a turnover etc...If anything I more than likely FOUND some weight and some soreness that I didn't go with instead!

That's what we do, too.  We once bought the really big carabiners and the men would use those to clip the new fancy plastic mugs to belts/belt loops so no one had to carry them. (For the life of me I don't remember how we carried the glass mugs--guess I was too young to pay attention.)

As far as losing something in the park, I lost a hat once by leaving it on a peg in the bathroom. Came back later in the season to try to claim it. They sent me the wrong hat, so I returned it. Not a big deal, but I really did like my hat. :(

I have never lost anything at Silver Dollar City, or well unless I just lost my memory of it! :P

Either way, I am now more paranoid after reading this thread than I was before I read it. Now, I will have to start double checking my pockets. ;D

speaking of keys.. i always put them in my pocket while on roller coasters & keep my hand pressed on them till the ride is over. weird, but it works.

I'm going to start doing it now. It should be easy enough, just clip the keys onto the belt loop before riding the real loops on Wildfire. ;D

My younger son had a tough time keeping track of his "stuff" this Saturday.  He left his refillable mug behind twice and his hat once.  We didn't notice the hat till after we had got past the turnstiles on the way out, so I had to go all the way around to get back in.   Thankfully, the hat was sitting on top of the cash register in the Reunion Hall when I got back up there.

So no permanent losses, but Geeze!

There is a strong possibility that my husband lost his wedding ring at SDC, it's either there or somewhere else in Branson.  We live with the hope that it got aphalted (is that a word?) over and that it will live forever at Silver Dollar City!

It was his BSA hat given to him by our pastor when he bridged into Boy Scouts from Cub Scouts.  I just had to try to find it.  Thankfully, the Lord was looking out for him that day.

My son lost his beloved green blanket (I think near the trams.)

We were sad.

But, we called, and sure enough they had it. They mailed it to us :)

Whether it counts depends on whether they ever found you. . . .
