After going to the park 2 times this year and being told that the new 2012 mugs were only good for this season and would not be honored next season I decided to call the park. I talked to Brenda in the Food department; she said that it was true that the new mugs would not be honored past the end of this season. I then asked her about the other 20 or so mugs I have and she said at this time they will honor those. I asked her if she had heard any from anyone else on this and she said to her knowledge I was the only one who has complained. What do you all think?
Do you mean the refill price won't be honored after this year?
That is correct. The 2012 mugs are only refillable for this season.
Think about it...they make ALOT of money off food and drink sales. If they now can force you to buy a new mug every year at over $10 per mug, WOW that's some pretty good cash they get. If what the food services gal says is true HANG ON TO THE OLD MUGS!
So glad I rescued a bunch of old ones from my parents. White Water had already switched to one-season-only mugs; it's a shame SDC had to, too.
Glad I didn't buy a new mug like I had planned!
I need to start going to garage sales to look for old mugs. :-\
I have found many, many mugs in great shape at yard sales. I placed this on another thread but will repeat here...I found four mugs for a dime each recently, although three did not have lids. Still a great bargain (better than what we will get from the 2012 mugs)!
MAN!! that was close! I almost bought a new one this year, just because...
I would have been hot!!! to find out it would not be honored next year.
time to start shopping/looking!
The problem is that here in Central Oklahoma I am not very likrly to find any at a garage sale. I am just worried that after a year or 2 thay might not want to honor the old mugs we have now.
i would hope that as the season goes on or at least come next year when people realize this change the complaints will roll in. You stupid thing is they already make a good profit from just the refills alone. I guess they feel they need a bigger profit margin on the soda. You know they get some great deal from coke just due the quantity that they buy. Hopefully someone realizes the stupidity in this.
Well, I'm a collector of SDC mugs, so it won't really bother me much 'cause I'll be buying next year's mug anyway.
And who knows? Maybe doing it this way, they can make money and therefore not have to increase admission fees.
we been useing the same ones since 2006. :D
im sure at some point they wont honor the old ones either. gotta love greed. i do my best to just buy sarsaparilla anyway
Wow, it is true that you learn something everyday...........I didn't know that mugs from past years could be used for this year, or prior years.
I had always bought a couple new mugs each year. They always saved me money anyway, I guess I didn't know that I should have just brought back my old ones and saved even more money.
I bet next year, only the 2013 cup will be honored....
Jay
As a side note, besides my initial purchase of a mug at the beginning of the year during which I purchase a soda, I usually just use my mug for water. Soda dehydrates, so I try my best to only drink water--and a lot of it--when I take my trips to SDC. Just take the mug to the nearest concession place and ask for water; they'll fill it for free, and often they'll include ice (which I sadly have to tell them to leave out ever since I developed Cold Urticaria early last year).
I usually only put water in mine too, except when I'm at the saloon ;)
Hopefully the old mugs will be "grandfathered" in, just like my dad's kettle corn bucket he brings in for refills. :)
heck, we drink alot'a water when we's there anyways. & thats free!! ;)
If they had Sioux City on tap...I'd fill up several times a trip-even though it would take away from the nostalgia of the bottle itself.
I have older mugs also, from around 2006, and several places last year charged us the current year price. I explained that they should honor the refill price marked on my mug, but it didn't work. I tried arguing, but didn't get anywhere.

Ha! Convinced my mom to look out for mugs for me. :D We both live in the Ozarks, so mugs shouldn't be hard to find. I'll take plastic mugs (not that I really
need them), but I really want some of the glass mugs for personal use.
What the 3 headed toad stool are they thinking!? Really. This saddens me. My family and I drink water most of the time. But the refill mugs are great when we want a soda. I dont have recent mugs cuz I wont pay the price for them, but not to honor them next year. Sigh. Man. I am rather speechless. :-\
So I emailed SDC and this is the response I got

Thank you for your interest in Silver Dollar City. This is somewhat correct. We do have specific mugs that are not refillable and states this on the mug. However, we do still offer the refillable ones as well.
Sincerely,
SDC Properties Customer Service
So it sounds almost like they will have two diffrent mugs or something of that nature.
sorry should have posted my question so you know what I actually asked
Question Topic: Other
Question or Comment: hi I had just heard something new for this year and wanted to see if its true. That if you buy a 2012 soda mug this year that it is only good for this year and not for 2013. If this is true what is the rules for older refillable mugs?
NL Opt-In: Yes
FYI -- the mugs are 10.99 this year.

NOW!! thats a deal!! 1.00 higher, AND only good this year!!! what a bargain :o :o :o :o :o
Yeah, all the stands had either last year's mugs or last year's and this year's. I already had last year's, so I got this year's 'cause of the new design on it.
