With the Hatfields and McCoys being somewhat popular at SDC, this caught my ear during a commercial break of American Pickers.

I saw the preview for that last night. Sounds interesting, I plan on trying to tune in.
The drama on TV sounds more serious than the banter that used to go on during the day on Main Street at SDC:
-
Pa McCoy: (SHOUTING) You swindler! You hog thief!
Sheriff: Hey fellers, what's goin' on here?
Pa McCoy: This feller sold me a mule, and he didn't even tell me it was blind!
Zeke Hatfield: Why I did, too!
Sheriff: You sold him a mule and you told him it was blind?
Zeke Hatfield: Well, I told him the animal wasn't lookin' too good!

(Also recorded on the Sounds of SDC album)
maybe slightly off topic, but on my latest trip to dollywood, i noticed a hatfields and mccoys dinner show. very cool building design from the outside. has anyone seen the show? wonder if it would work well in branson?

I also plan on tuning in. I LOVE history, so it will be good to see what it's really all about.
I don't know if I posted this somewhere else, but I just remembered this from my last trip to SDC.
You guys know the barrel/fountain outside of Molly's that says "McCoys Only, No Hatfields".
I was sitting in the front part of the restaurant eating breakfast and I was looking out the window where I could see who was walking in. Some guy couldn't get the door open, so I said, "Maybe he's a Hatfield!" :D
Only my sister got it and she about choked on her biscuits and gravy trying not to laugh. Then I had to wait for everyone who I was eating breakfast with to finish eating so I could explain to them and show them what I was talking about because when I said it, everyone looked at me like I was crazy.
Just reminding myself and anyone interested that this airs Monday night. :) The previews make it look good. Just hope I can remember.

Thanks for the reminder.
I don't have to remember... I just set my DirecTV DVR to record the series. Handy thing, this internet. Doc Harris would definitely approve. ;)
we's gunna check it out too.
Love that DVR! ;D
In checking out the Hafield/McCoy Dinner Theater Website above, I noticed a bearded gent in a pink underwear shirt. Is this the same fellow used to play the miner at SDC/Tennessee in the 1970's, or would that feller be so old now that he probably is 6 feet under or retired?
So... Did anyone tune in? What did you think?
I watched the first 30 min. and asleep. I'll try to watch the recorded version tonight - and - stay awake. Hubs comments: It was pretty detailed and the history was well researched, photography was good, some parts were a little slow.
good so far to me. & i aint a movie person, but it kept my interest. :)
I have watched 1hr of the episode, and was very happy with what I already knew of the story line. Maybe I'll finish episoed 1 this evening...if I can get this silly paper for school finished!
I thought it was great!! I am getting ready to watch #2 in an hour!
I'm gonna watch the re run of episode #2 later tonight, because my sister and I lost track of time due to our Johnny Depp movie marathon. ;) So I'm watching a nifty Jesse James documentary while I wait.
Part 2 had way too many commercials for me, at times they were having them every 7-8 minutes. Dang sponsers! :D
How-do, I noticed that also! I debated watching Part 2 because it was getting late, but it didn't take anytime at all by fast forwarding through the commercials. Hubs and I both thought commercials took up about the same amount of time as the show. It is a good show, though.
I really wanted to like this show, and I do to a certain extent. But, to me it seems like Kevin Costner's character "Devil" Anse Hatfield is getting a much more sympathetic portrayal than the Randolph McCoy character who claims to be a "Christian." In Episode two the Pinkerton man claims to have "accepted Jesus as my savior" but in reality he's something of a psychopath. Maybe its just me.
I watched Part 2 late last night (I think at midnight) and I missed part of the beginning, but I noticed it was on again right after. I kept watching to catch the beginning, then I'm like, "wait a minute, this has got to be Part 3", so I don't have to worry about catching it tonight.
part 2 is rerunning right now... 6-8 tonite,
I enjoyed all 3 nights, good show!
I set the DVR, but I can't tolerate sitting down on the couch and watching "TV", even if I can skip through the commercials.
I'm 49, but I'm adult ADD like that... I just have to have other things going on at the same time.
For instance... I'm watching the first episode right now, and loving it, while reading and replying on the SDC Fans forum. ;D

I'm the same way. I'll tell everybody in the house that the TV is mine at a certain time if there is something on I wanna watch, then I'll be texting or crocheting... etc. while I'm watching it and my sister gets mad at me... "You made me give up the TV and you aren't even paying attention!"
I do that too!! I am currently working on a braided rug and will watch something and my fam gets angry with me. Or I will be piddling on the internet and watching something and again they get cranky...until I tell them word for word what was just said and they shut up. :)
LOVED the show. I wished the producers would take note of the success the show enjoyed and make more of them. Nice break from all the "reality" shows that are being forced down our throats all the time!
