Title: Special Occasion
Post by: saloongal on March 26, 2012, 08:02:22 AM
We will be in Branson the last weekend of April and are taking a trip without the kids (I hardly know what to do with myself) and since that Saturday is my birthday (one of them that ends in 0) we want to have a nice dinner.

What are some suggestions for a formal, or at least very nice dinner restaurant?  We try to avoid chain restaurants and are looking for a unique, place.

Thanks!

No ideas, but happy birthday. So you're 20 right?

I have not heard the reviews about it, but the Black Oak Grill at the landing has just opened at the Belk end of the Landing. I don't even know how nice it might be...I just know it is new!

The restaurant at College of the Ozarks has consistent high reviews, but it's pricey.  I really like Outback Steak and Oyster Bar (not affiliated with Outback Restaurant).  Also, Cantina Laredo (a chain) is a favorite of mine.  I didn't realize until recently they are a chain.  Montana Mikes also has good reviews.  I have been there once, and the pork chops were fantastic.  Happy Birthday and have a great time!

Montana Mikes is a chain too. I didn't realize this until I saw they have one in El Reno, OK

I'd highly recommend the restaurant at College of the Ozarks. Weekend brunch is good, too. I would recommend Candlestick Inn or Charlie's Steak and Ale, but they are "gone with the wind" (recent tornado) Charlies will probably be fixed and reopened, if it isn't already, Candlestick is gone, most likely.

I'll second the Outback.

We like La Hacienda on Shepherd of the Hills Expressway... Just across the street south of IMAX.. Nice, Quiet, Sit down, they wait on you. Plenty of room between tables, Reasonable prices ( I suggest fajitas for 2, very BIG portions), If you want a drink with your meal, they have a full bar...

I would recommend the Devil's Pool Restaurant at Big Cedar.  The food is excellent and the atmosphere is rustic and beautiful.  Expect to pay between $15-$30 for entrees.  Their prime rib is very tasty. http://www.big-cedar.com/Page/Devils-Pool-Restaurant.aspx

I had forgotten about the Devil's Pool, they had great food.

Thanks!

We have been to Charlie's and like it a lot. Hope to see it open when we get there.
Cantina Laredo is also a favorite.

Where is the Outback Steak and Oyster?

Looks like Black Oak opens today!

Outback Steak & Oyster is located across from Grand Country. I also recommend it, It's been there a long time. Great atmosphere, and good food!

I also second that on Devils Pool at Big Cedar. We have eaten at both Devils Pool & Worman House, both are really good, but we prefere Devils Pool.

Outback has been in Branson since at least '82 or so. I've never ate at Big Cedar's restaurants, but I understand from a former employee there who I work with now that it is an excellent choice.

I'm pretty sure La Hacienda is permanently closed - which is a bummer!  I thought it was by far the best Mexican restaurant in Branson.  I read on another forum that it was closed.

Well I;d say it is two-of-some-kind! as long as the two don't cross over I'd be okay, something about Mexican Sushi, or kung pow tacos that would be a bit odd
