64 days 10 hours and 39 minutes left!!!!
I spent about an hour trying to figure out a way to embed that in a post but no luck. Maybe if Shave gets a chance he can give it a whirl. My html skills are pretty much non existent.
I am so excited!!! I want 0 across the board to happen really soon!
Maybe this will help--
Countdown timer for the opening of the 2012 season:
http://www.timeanddate.com/counters/customcounter.html?msg=Silver+Dollar+City+opens+for+2012&month=03&day=15&year=2012&hour=09&min=30&sec=&p0=895
Thanks Zephon. That's great!!
Yay see I couldnt figure it out either and I didnt think to copy paste!!!!!
oh i like that! saved it to my favorite page,,, thanks
Only 63 days... (http://www.timeanddate.com/counters/customcounter.html?msg=Silver+Dollar+City+2012+Opening&month=03&day=15&year=2012&hour=08&min=30&sec=00&p0=895)
I know I'm gonna go through withdrawals this winter. Today I watched this video of the train. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7DSydrIKBM) It was more of footage of the train through the park than the ride itself. But it was just what I needed!
Anyone want to share their favorite SDC videos?

You can't embed an html page into these forums. If you find one of those sites that puts counters into a java applet you can embed those pretty easily. I might put one in the top corner of the forums if I ever get a chance. ;)
I'll brag on my picture video from Mothers Day at SDC this year. Fun fun fun!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80LPOGcVE1E
Im thinkin about filming my trip this year. I have always taken pictures and it never satisfies my hunger. I need a video camera!!!
I really wasn't sure how to go about it. I found some bbcode for countdown but it didn't seem to work either. Like I said my web skills are pretty much nill. If you could get a chance to do that it would be great. No biggie if not still appreciate the forums and all you do a ton. :)
In case there is any doubt,?
It is 62 days, 20 hours, 48 minutes, 24 seconds

I bought an extra memory card for my digital camera because I like to do a lot of videos, and I run out of room for pictures. This way I can have both! And I got an extra battery from a friend whose camera broke and she got a camera with a different kind of battery, so she said if I could use her old battery, I could have it!
I started to buy a recorder last year, but when i walked in to best buy to do my comparing of models..... I just got LOST in all the options and technology...LOL.. i am not real quick with all the new stuff >:(.
Its time like that i wish i had a couple of teenagers! They can run any of this new stuff in their sleep!! LOL.
Anyway, got frustrated, and no new camera, just keept using my old Kodak DC215.it takes great pictures, but is big and bulky,, maybe this year ??? ???
Kodak is claiming bankruptcy, so if your going to buy new might do it now while prices are being slashed to move product.
For today, I found a great video of the Waterboggan (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ah-1qQ9nKF8). It may be 20* outside, but inside it's Summer! I didn't realize how much I loved this ride until it was gone. I swear it was the wettest ride at one point in time.

I know nothing about technology, but one of my best friends is an amazing photographer and he knows everything about cameras. He and I were in Walmart one day before a choir concert because we had to pick up a few things. Killing time, we ended up by the cameras and I mentioned how I needed a new one because my old one got a nice little shower of hot chocolate. He compared all of them using his crazy techy talk. I stood there nodding like I understood every word he said lol. He said the best one was Kodak Easyshare M532. It was also one of the cheapest, which didn't break my heart any! It has 14megapixels, 4x optical zoom, shoots video in HD 720p. Pretty nifty gadget! Its not very big either.

Well said. I only rode a handful of times because I usually don't want to get soaked, but I sure do miss it.

Sadly, he had to move back to TX :(
You know, I remember riding the waterboggan and will never forget it because at one point I became airborne - SERIOUSLY! But, I don't remember it having any water. So, I asked the hubs about it today, and he agrees that when we rode it, it didn't have water - it was just really slick. When did it change? Or, are we both crazy?
It was my fave ride ever when it was there. I rode it with my step dad for and never looked back! My husband was glad to see it gone. I showed him the said video and he deemed it unsafe. That the flimsy boat could easily fly off the sides. The party pooper.
GreenTram - why's ya'r ol' man such a party pooper against SDC?
He loves SDC----between the hours of 9a-4p. lol. He doesnt do public well so I should count my lucky stars that I get that time. :) We all have our lil quirks. His is more of a curse quirk. :D
As thrilling as the Waterboggan may have been, more people were injured on it than any other ride. Meeting with the Safety Director on the occasion of my own daughter's quite significant injury on it, he confided that injuries were very common. I'm glad to see it gone. We don't need a ride on park where the chances of exiting it battered and bloodied is a very real possibility.
Did not the park totally refit the waterboggan at one point to make it safer? I never rode this ride, my old pal Randy was the lead man there for a while. What seasons was it actually in operation?
I remember riding the waterboggan once or twice. The first time it was a little scarier than expected. The second time, it just seemed short. I'd like to ride it again. Waterboggan definitely looks wilder than Dollywood's Slidewinder on the POV videos I looked at. I got wetter at the one in Six Flags Georgia, since removed. In that one (Raging River or something), the run out at the bottom had about a foot of water which would completey inundate the boat, so that when you came to a stop your outstreched legs and rump were as wet as if you were sitting in a kiddie pool with your toddler. I guess I'll just have to go to Dollywood, watch videos, or play RCT to get my dinghy boat slide thrills. I never got to try Spash Harbor on for size.
I remember once I rode it when my uncle came with us, and there was a HUGE splash at the end, like a tidal wave, and we got off the ride completey drenched! We were wet enough we could stand there and wring the water out of our clothes and leave a puddle standing on the sidewalk. Then years later we rode it, and my sister said "Where was the big splash? That was my favorite part!" So I'm guessing they had changed something over the years, but its hard for me to say, because I hardly ever rode it.
There were several changes during the course of it's life, all of them due to safety concerns. At first it was just a half-round, then they extended the walls up on the curves for fear of the boats sliding up and over the edge. At some time they added some more support structure under it because the channel would "give" too much as boats went down it. Later they added strips of wide conveyer belt in some sections of the channel hoping that would slow the boats down a bit. It was one of those rubber conveyer belts that my daughter, then 10 or 11, was injured on. There may have been another one or two changes that I can't think of. I don't know if any them actually helped or not, but the boggan is gone and nothing in it's place so draw your own conclusions.

When the boggin first opened they didnt have the roof on. It also ran with very little water in the trough in the beginning. Maybe the 2nd year they put a cover on the thing and increased the water as well, I always thought this was to give the ride more drag as I thought it ran faster with less water. It was an unpredictable ride!!

Today I had my morning cup of hot tea in a SDC mug. I just "saved" six mugs from my parents' garage sale. What I'm going to do with 7 mugs for just DH and I, I'm not sure. But I couldn't let them go to a stranger. :o

That brings back great memories...I'm still so sad that they took that ride out...My family loved it...We had so many laughs from that ride...
QuoteFor today, I found a great video of the Waterboggan.
This must have been the first or second year for the ride.
If you look close you will see the boat was actually inflatable early on and then they became foam with a rubber coating, like an old water slide mat. Also there is no cover on the ride as there was after the 2nd or 3rd year. I was always under the impression they covered the ride because it was possible to flip the boats and they didn't want people falling over the side. It was a fun ride but I was always relieved when I got off.
^Nope, this was in recent years after the "upgrades". They used heavy duty inflatable rafts with seat dividers and removed the tunnels.
Only about three weeks to go.
Yes!! 22 days 23 hours 58 minutes!!
Gonna get a preview to the season this Saturday in Olathe! Homestead Pickers are doing a concert at a church here. Yeehaw, some laughs and fun are in my SDC-less future!
good for you, sounds fun!! that should hold you over till the season starts..
It is 14 days, 13 hours, & 11 minutes until those turnstiles open! Now my apartment smells yummy!
Just two weeks to go? Unbelievable! Ozarks Gal you are making me hungry. :P
Didnt want to make a new topic for this so here goes, I am going to SDC the 16th-18th and my baf's have free'd up. Anyone is welcome to them. Just throwin it out there. :)
Got our passes in the mail the other day. ;D
I haven't even purchased my tickets yet! I know, I know but I won't be able to attend till later this year. I'm still a Silver Dollar City fan I promise. ;D

It is starting to sound like a NASA launch pad in here! I love it though. ;)
Very excited for this season, as a former citizen and team lead who left with some hard feelings over how some longtime citizens were being treated on various personnel issues, i went several times the season after I quit and just did not have fun. But I stayed away last year and I am so ready and happy to just go as a guest again and enjoy the park.
The very reason I went to work at SDC in the first place, I really love that place, can't wait!
9 days 13 hours 16 minutes!! ;D :D ;D :) :D
Next Thursday at 9:30am, while i am work, i am gunna yell - "THE PARK IS NOW OPEN!!" :D
I'll stop my class and have a mini celebration including opening an icy cold Sioux City Sarsaparilla and then indulging in some jerky! When they ask "What are you doing?" I'll say..."Get used to it, this will happen everyday at 930am until I get to SDC." ;D
Ah, yes the pre Silver Dollar City rituals. Love it! I suppose it's time to start practicing my tram dialogue, and do U-turns in the cul-de-sac. ;D
"PLEASE STAY BEHIND THE WHITE LINES!" (I can't wait to hear that!) ;D
Step to the rear! DO NOT walk in front of the trams!
All ashore! Driver, when you're clear.
:D
When exiting the Train "Please watch your heads AND your mouths." :D

There is a picture of Geyser Gulch and Buzz Saw Falls on the back, which leads me to believe it's from around 1999-2000. (I know I have a mug from the 1999 WorldFest.) The first few of the plastic mugs my family received by accidentally breaking our glass mugs while at the park. We were given free plastic mugs.

Glass mugs? That's kinda dangerous!
Dangerous? After playing with nitro, and explosives, and T.N.T, all day at Silver Dollar City the glass mug is as safe as can be. Although, truth be told I prefer the lighter plastic mugs to lug around my moonshine all day. ;D

Yall make me happy!! SDC should send text blasts of random sentences said on a daily basis. Like the tram dialog or the train dialog. Or lines from the flooded mine and fire in the hole.

That's a great idea, Trams! It would be fun to have as ringtones, also. But, I'm not techie enough to figure that one, out!
I hope ya'll noticed I finally figured out how to copy of quote! ;D ;D ;D
Next...learn to type correctly on my phone!
As a famous prisoner once said while working in the mine, "I'm getting out of here, no matter what!"
Reading all the quotes just made my awful day 250% better! Thank you!!
"That is not the Rock of Many Names. The Rock of Many Names is directly behind the rock you see."
"Now entering Pottersville, MO: Population 4. No, make that 3: the dog ran away. Doggone!"
"Howdy there, folks! My name is Junior Dugan, and I'll be drivin' your diving bell! Right back here on the wall is a picture of one, the genuine, one of a kind, diving bell! Hey, wait a minute, folks! When I say "diving bell," that there is your signal to go "ooooooh and ahhhhhh with amazement! Let's try it again...the genuine, patented in 1879, DIVING BELL!" (Crowd goes ohhhh and ahhh.) "Yup, that diving bell back on the wall is a picture of what we're all gonna drown in, AHHH I mean, DO DOWN in! Now folks, the diving bell is made out of barn wood, and everybody knows wood floats, so we gotta have just enough weight to go underwater, but not so much as to where we have to pop a few kids out the porthole before we can come back up. That's why we gotcha here on these scales, to weigh you up. Except folks, we got us a problem, as these here scales are busted! They ain't worked in weeks! But don't worry, don't fret at all. My Uncle Rube says I got a good eye for weight." (Looking at a guest that is NOT overweight.) "Yeah, my Uncle Rube says I can look at anybody, anybody at all, and tell 'em down to the last ounce how much they weigh. But don't worry lady, my Uncle Rube says I'm good at keeping secrets, too! (Crowd laughs.) Well, folks, just by eyeballin' ya'll, it looks like we got about just enough weight to go here. Come on, folks, let's go out onto the wharf!"
(Scales scene, the opening dialog for the diving bell attraction, 1977-1984. My ad-libbed version based on the script given to us at the time)
Haha, Junior that's awesome! I can just imagine being right there, what a riot. :D
4 days 18 hours till opening day!!! Holy crap its sneakin up and about to pounce on us!! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Next Saturday the park will be hopping!!
Ok so we are down to less than 5 days for the big opening, weather there is supposed to be great! Real envious of everybody that will be there,,
So i made a countdown for when i get to be there:
It is 14 days, 15 hours, 53 minutes, 37 seconds
until Sunday, March 25, 2012 at 9:30:00 AM
It is drawing near! We should all celebrate together at the exact same time when the doors open on the first day. Even for those of us that won't be able to make it in person. ;D
We are almost there! I hope to see some of you on park opening day!
We've had season tickets for the last several years. We usually go during the week and have the opportunity to go on opening day this Thursday. Typically, the crowds are less during the week than on the weekend but with it being the first day of the season, I'm a little concerned about the crowds. Anyone have any insight to what the crowd will be like on opening Thursday? TIA
Christy, WELCOME to the group,,
I woul expect with the weather predicted at 75-80 opening day an lots of sun.. the City will have an amazing opening day and weekend!
Have fun!.
We were there on opening day last year. It was nice weather, I would guess somewhere around 70 degrees. The attendance was very manageable, would guess around 6,000. I would presume attendance would be about the same or lighter considering nothing new this year (HDH last year). Now Saturday might be a totally different story!
Thanks for the quick replies and the warm welcome! We would love to surprise our kids by showing up at SDC on Thursday but wanted to make sure we could actually get on some rides! :) If the weather holds out, we hope to make it!!
1 day 20 hrs 6 minutes till rope drop!! Can I get an AMEN!
Amen.
Anyone gonna from the board gonna be there? Dying to see some updated pics of the new coaster construction. I would go in a heartbeat, but I'm four hours away.
AMEN! And, Trams, post some pics as soon as you can!
You better believe it!! Yall will hafta learn me how ta put them up... ???

Whew, I am getting excited, and I won't even be there! Just a day to go. ;D
Still planning on being at SDC Thursday. Will attempt to post lots of photos sometime Thursday afternoon/evening! Hope to see ya'll there.
This time tomorrow the ropes will have dropped for the first time year! ;D I hope you have a blast Junior, and remember that it is impossible for you to take too many pics.
Wish I was going. :'(
