If it was up to me, Branson would be #1!
Silver Dollar City absolutely deserves to be on the list! It seems like every square inch of the park is covered with lights. It's still on honor that our favorite little secret in the Ozarks is getting national attention once again. :)
If you look at those that beat Branson, and factor in the population it is very good for Branson! Trye WDW made the list by itself, adn SDC needed the cooperation of the city and SOTH as well as another light trail, but I believe SDC is the largest contributorto the accomplishment of the city being #6!
City Population Area
New York 8,175,133 303 sq miles
Newport Beach 85, 186 52.9 sq miles
Walt Disney World 0 47.0 sq miles
Denver CO 600,158 47.3 sq miles
Chicago IL 2,695,598 234 sq miles
Branson MO 10,520 16.3 sq miles
there is this one tree on the square near the general store I believe that is totally wrapped in blue lights from head to tail. It looks like its on blue fire at night! how do they do it?? The light extends to the itty bitty branches....
rube, nice list of facts,,,, when i was reading the article i actually wondered about the size/area/people invlolved. thanks rube.
If it weren't for SDC, Branson wouldn't make the list. Other than SDC, the Festival of Lights, and the Trail of Lights, it seems as though Branson has less and less Christmas lights and decor each year.
If it wasn't for Walt Disney World, Orlando Florida wouldn't have made the list either. Although the article cheats a bit, and calls out Walt Disney World specifically, instead of a geographic area like all 9 other contenders.
I almost made a note about the population of WDW: two mice, a couple dogs, a few ducks...
In reality there are a few residents of the Resort. Some of the animal handlers in Animal Kingdom, as well as a few employees live in nearby Lake Buena Vista...but man do you have to commend BetaMike for checking each and every one of those bulbs...way to go Beta!
Missinthe....did you notice the icicles coming down from the blue tree? I think this is the first year for that.
Top ten things about the Christmas lights in Branson:
10) The only man-made object viewable from space (Other than the Great Wall) but night time only!
9) When the temperature is just right, the line of cars going into Shepherd of the Hills creates smog thicker than that in LA!
8) How cool it is to look upon an Adoration Scene on Mt. Branson through the lights, water, and belching fire at Branson Landing?
7) Two small villages and one large city in China work year round to produce enough Christmas lights for Branson!
6) Which to you like more: All clear lights or all multi-color lights? Dang, such hard decisions!
7) The late Osborne Jennings of Little Rock took one look at Branson, and sent his displays to Orlando, 'cause Branson didn't need more!
5) Terry Sanders as Santa's Helper at SDC: Punch drunk from gazing at the lights just a little too long!
4) Santa is getting jealous 'cause Branson is "more Christmas-y" than the North Pole!
3) Empire Electric's White River Region bill payment for November and December cause the electric company officials to shout "For us...it's
Christmas in JANUARY!"
2) In reality, the giant Christmas tree at SDC is used for sending secret messages to the men on Mars!
1) HIGHER NUMBER OF CHRISTMAS LIGHTS IN BRANSON THAN DOLLARS OWED ON THE NATIONAL DEBT!
;D :D ;) :) ;D :D ;) :)
Nice Junior.
Haha, wow Junior! Getting creative on a cold, rainy night? That's good stuff! :D
now thats a top ten list!
I like #7 Junior. He was a good man, with a big heart for Christmas. Sad that his neighbors couldn't appreciate what he did for the community.
MSN.com goes one step further (and for the better) Their pick is not for Branson, but for Silver Dollar City!!!
QuoteSilver Dollar City's Old Time Christmas (Branson, Mo.)If it's lights you want — lights in volume — the Silver Dollar City theme park display, in Branson, Mo., boasts having more than 4 million for you. The centerpiece: a five-story Christmas tree decorated with synchronized LEDs. The "special effects" tree — blinking with up to 100 light changes per second — flashes in unison to holiday songs. More than a million lights now decorate the faux town square and twinkle along. Lights are strung on buildings, in hanging canopies over Main Street, and on Christmas trees dotting the square. A parade of colorful musical floats passes through town each evening, lit up with more than 100,000 lights.
