I've been to SDC several times before, but my last visit was in 2009 and I know some changes have been made since then. I just found out I'm pregnant, and I already checked the ride safety info at SDC's website and saw that the only rides safe for pregnancy are the train and the Flooded Mine.
Since I can't ride the water rides, are there other ways I can get wet and cool off in the middle of July? I see that the Riverblast ride has water guns for by-standers, but didn't the water cannon area in the back corner of the park close down? I've heard that Riverblast is best on a crowded day, but we were planning on going in the middle of the week to avoid the crowds -- think there will still be enough people at Riverblast on a July weekday with the kids out of school? I even bought a new swimsuit for our trip before I discovered I was pregnant ;) (Yes, I'm one of those people who wears a swimsuit under her clothes -- Lost River is my favorite ride, too bad I'll miss it this year!)
On the plus side, maybe we'll spend more time at the shops than we usually do.... I can only sit around for so long while hubby rides Wildfire by himself ;)
BTW, I'm not complaining, we were trying to get pregnant... I just didn't expect it to happen so soon! :)
Welcome to the site geek.
there are usually misters on around the park.
Geyers Gulch would be an easy way to get wet.
The railroad bridge by the saloon has a larger waterer/mister on all the time, that should help too.
Also since your new to the site, we as a "club" get a great discount on rooms at the eagles lodges on the west side of branson. Our price is only 40.00 per nite plus tax. Managers name is Paige. Give her a call if you are needing a motel.
Good luck and have a great trip.
Thanks!
Though I must be confused... Geyser Gultch is still open? Then what was Splash Harbor that I heard is now closed?
Yes, Geyser Gulch is still open, they have a few misters and fountains there as well.
Splash Harbor was located behind Geyser Gulch, it was shaped like a boat and had water cannons where you could spray other people.
Mid-week in July? I'd say it will probably be hot enough that there will be enough people around RiverBlast to get wet. I'd be surprised otherwise.
Welcome.
I don't really see why you couldn't ride RiverBlast, you really don't have to do anything other than sit there if you don't want to. You will get plenty wet, but I don't really see it being strenuous.
As already mentioned, GG has some misters and fountains that could get you wet. There will also be fans around the park with misters to cool you off, or you can always go inside and air conditioned shop and look around a bit. Enjoy your trip and congratulations on the baby.
When i go on hot days, i always take a hand towel or wash rag to keep myself cooled off. I run it thru one of my belt loops. Just a thought.. ;)
This was UNEXPECTED, but got some family visiting this weekend and they all want to go to Branson Saturday (july 2) so it appears as if I will get my Branson fix again this week...my grandson and I visited SDC last Friday! GAME ON! :D Happy 3th of July to everyone!
Uh, thats Happy 4th of July! ;) WOOOO HOOOOO!
Thankfully, there is plenty of shady spots in the heart of the city, so cooling off shouldn't be an impossible challenge even when you are not at River Blast, or Geyser Gulch. Also, I agree with thelarsonsix that River Blast is tame enough for you to ride on. The only real concern will be entering, and exiting the boat.
It's really neat to think that this will be the babies first unofficial trip to Silver Dollar City. :)
Ozark thats a great point. "1st trip"
Well being the Very FIRST trip, Maybe time to start a new tradition for your family.
Buy the 1st bear for your little one at HDH?
Boo Hoo! Our planned trip to Branson today did not happen. We all ended up staying around the house. Ah, well, maybe next time... :'(
I think it would be safe for a woman in the early months of pregnancy to ride RiverBlast. The ride is not any more "strenuous" than the Flooded Mine, and is easier to get in and out of the boat.
tough break junior, :'( better luck next time....
I agree with you biscuit, both of those rides are very mellow and relaxing
Well, I was just going off the ride info on SDC's website which said Riverblast was not safe for pregnant women :) I've actually been having some issues with the pregnancy already, but my doctor has been monitoring me closely and said I should be able to go to SDC as long as I don't develop any scary new symptoms -- so I definitely want to play it safe :) I think this year, I'll mostly just be looking at the shops and people-watching while my husband rides the roller coasters!
1st SDC trip for baby, how cute.... we'll definitely be bringing him/her back some day! I grew up going to SDC about once a summer when I was a kid!
Oh, I wonder if it's because of all the water and they don't want to risk someone slipping and falling and injuring themselves & their child.
Excellent point! The one major difference between the Flooded Mine, and River Blast is that the Flooded Mine boats stay fairly dry in the seating area. The River Blast boats on the other hand are literally blasted with water during each trip out
Yeah, there's been one or two times that I have slipped coming onto or off of Riverblast, but thankfully caught myself.
Hey, does anyone know if you can bring your own water bottles into SDC? My doctor did say I need to stay well-hydrated :)
YES. you can bring in your own cooler, beverages and even food if you want to.. The only rule is NO glass containers.
Depending on your needs, you may only have to bring one water bottle per person. There are plenty of water fountains throughout the park, and almost all of the food venders give water out for free.
