I just watched the Beverly Hillbillies episodes recorded at SDC. During the show, they had many scenes shot inside the old sdc hotel. I know management has updated the hotel since the recording, but is that what the hotel actually look like? I only remember the hotel being an ice cream shop. :-[
(Attached photo belongs to CBS)
I was under the understanding that the exterior shots were in fact at SDC, while the interior shots were in a sound stage in Cal-i-forny
Speaking of Hannah's Ice Cream parlor I wonder what ever became of "Piano Pete" the manequin and his player piano that used to be inside the parlor? Another memory of the "old days at SDC"...
I would love to say he is playing away in my basement as I type this, but unfortunately I cannot. I wonder where he is?
Oh OK so the inside was fake. :-\ Did they make the sound stage look like the real sdc hotel or is it total fiction?
If you can picture it, the Ice cream shop is now much larger than the original hotel interior, as the building expanded to the structure next door. I do not know if that is what the interior looked like, I would like to think so, but I believe it was just simply a Hollywood recreation that was conducive to the shots needed for the show.
IN the photo below from the ViewMaster reels, you will see a separate store next to the Hotel, that, today is connected. (The Candy Store was at one time located here on the Square)

Thanks for the info and WOW i like the ViewMaster reel! If possible, you should post all of the old pictures!
I don't want to show all my cards just yet!
No I tried remaking my viewmaster scanner, but I failed, and have to make another, maybe this summer will lend well to getting some much needed SDC stuff done!

That was the era when I started being an every-year visitor (through 1985), and honestly I couldn't give you the slightest description of the interior of the hotel, or the ice cream parlor. I went into either one once or twice over the years, tops.
There was too much "fun stuff" for a kid (even when I was a 22 year old kid), to see outside. The only "inside" activity that regularly drew me were the glassblowers, and the saloon show. (And FITH and FM, of course!)

I agree. Although I wasn't there during filming of course, but I am almost certain that most interior shots were in fact on a soundstage. :)
Interior scenes shot in California at the regular studio for the series. The interior of the ice cream parlor NEVER looked like the interior of the hotel in the TV show.
So guess what!
I think I wore out my DVD. I've watched it so many times and recently, it's been skipping. I've cleaned it, and that doesn't work. I tried watching it last night, but the 3rd episode didn't hardly work at all. I went to the menu and the 3rd episode again, thinking maybe it was just something that happened, like not a big deal. But when I started episode 3, still wasn't happening. I'll probably have to buy 2 DVDs when I go back in October!!
Sorry! That's my favorite tv show!!! And those episodes are set in my favorite place!! How could you go wrong! ;D
thats a new one. wore out a DVD! wow! :o
maybe you can take the old one back and tell them is it not working properly,? ???
just kidding. ::)
I had that happen with a few VHS as a kid, but never a DVD. I have watched mine once all through, and assorted times here and there to see a few specific scenes. Makes me want to back up EVERYTHING I have!
I probably scratched it somehow. :(
Probably while frantically ripping it open to shove the disc into the player being so eager to watch the shows! ;D
Haha! Probably!! ;)
We bought a copy in March of last year from the Hospitality House. The 3rd episode froze up and skipped the first time we tried to watch it. We took it back on our next trip in May of last year and got another copy which is doing just fine. I wonder if you got our "recycled" copy?
