Title: Terry Sanders.
Post by: sanddunerider on May 21, 2011, 01:10:44 PM
Ok?  I have been to the park 5 times in the last 4 weeks, and have yet to see Terry. I wanted to meet him, and shake his hand.

I have been there twice at the gate opening, usually he is meeting and greeting, but not there.

And did not see hime anywhere in the park through out my visits.

Has he been there?    Any ideas?

Generally, Terry has Sunday off. He works the tram area early in the morning as "the Warden." Later in the day, he does the undertaker, "Mr. M. Balmer," and plays the "Colonel Parnell" character at the homestead. His exact schedule, I could not tell you. I have been on park twice this year, and have seen and visited with him both times. Generally if you ask some of the other characters where he is, they'll point  you in the right direction. Hope this helps.

We've seen Terry almost every time we've been there over the last 5 years, guess we must be lucky. He is a very neat fellow. I love his characters at SDC but I still think my favorite is when he played Barney at Celebration City. When I see him at SDC I always ask him about his 1 bullet.

I may be imagining things but I swear my last post had a bunch of letters scrambled after I posted it. I went back and fixed it. What would cause this? After I hit the post button I did get a weird looking screen.

His 2 days off from SDC are on Sundays and Mondays. I have seen him the 5 times I have been there this year. If you are up by the Hospitality House around 4 pm or a bit thereafter, he is usually there thanking the guests for their visit. He is usually accompanied by Mandy and Stan "Shakey" Manley.

I believe he posts his work schedule (days off and his other jobs) at www.homerlee.com

Okay, so then Terry mighta spooked m kid. My husband that you all know from my grumblings about him likes to leave at 4 and if what you say is true then I do believe Terry Sanders spooked my kid! It was then harvest fest and as we were leaving there was a scarecrow to my left that for some reason caught my eye and so I stopped and let my son look at it and he was fascinated by this scarecrow and then the scarecrow jumped out at us. Darn that scarecrow.

The scarecrow is indeed Terry. It is odd having a conversation with him when he is in that costume. I have stopped to talk to him, and it just felt weird talking to someone that has no visible features that move when they are talking!

He also does spots around town; commercials for Vacation Channel, etc. I did a MDA (Jerry's kids) jail to get out to raise money & have a picture (him as the bailliff). I asked him then "how do you cover Branson/SDC/events like you do, you seem to be everywhere! His reponse was "that's my seceret & I'm not sharin'! He actually remembered me from over the years & brought up past times that he knew me from. Don't know how but this guy is on top of it all! Glad to hear he does take time off but does he really?  ;)

Saw him on 5/18 -- he was greeting a school bus that was delivering kids for a day at SDC.  Was at the park most of the day and that was the only time I saw him.

Terry is definitely a very busy guy! I keep up with his happenings online from time to time, and it seems like he is always participating in some type of show, or event, or outing.

If he is not working at Silver Dollar City then he is working somewhere in the Ozarks. He just doesn't know the meaning of "take a break."

Welcome to forums CLWKC!

One of the great things about Terry Sanders is that he does not isolate himself just to the town square. He has a unique way of popping up all over the park! ;D

And I might add, shows up all over the area! according tto his website. A quite diversified individual.

We've run into Terry Sanders almost every time we've been to the park this last 5 days. We took a family photo with him. He was very kind and gave my family 2 of the buy one ticket get one ticket free cards to the Shepard of the Hills show. We will go to this before we leave Branson this trip. Thanks Terry. This will save us money and give us a chance to see the show.

When I was there he stood at the entrance to FITH as the undertaker. I said hi Terry ( he nodded) and then He  scared one of the kids in my FFA chapter. It was the best.

I was just there on June 9th and 10th...got there probably between 9:30 -- 10:00 both days -- and both days Terry was greeting people coming off the tram.

I went up and asked him "How long have you been here?"

"8 o' clock this morning" he said.

"No... :) really, how long?"

"32 years."

I told him I'd been coming to the park for 30 years, and he gave me his card.

Terry is very clever guy!

It's really quite special how he will personally greet guest as they depart from the trams, and buses. It really sets a great tone for the day!  :)

He could teach classes on connecting with guests. In the heirarchy of the park I would assume that he is indeed pretty high up, not just for years of service, but for his wealth of kindness and generosity, as well as his wealth of various characters and costumes/ personas!

When I worked at SDC, Shad Heller, Pete Engler (woodcarver), Ray Jones (Glassblower), Judy (candy shop), Bonnie (street troupe...later Miss Bonnie at schoolhouse), Judy and Richard Young (entertainment), and a handful of others were royalty. Many of those folks are dead or retired, some, like Judy, are still around. Terry has advanced to the rank of royalty, he has made it to "Master Entertainer" level. SDC honors long time employees with a "master" title for the entertainers and craftsmen. I'm proud to say I worked with him.

(I used the snipping tool on my laptop while I was watching a video on youtube.)

What a coincidence. That cap is from my "Silver Dollar City in Pictures" vid! I recognize the diamond-shaped "orbs." LOL Yeah, that's on the side of the jail, right next to the "waterfall" at Mary's Springhouse.

I have a few pictures of Terry in his various characters at SDC. I'm guessing it will be okay if I post them here? Or would that ruin the fun of trying to find him on your own?

Those are some great pics! Thanks for posting them!

Every time my dad see's him, he ask him about his weather rock (a reference to Terry The Tour Guide on the Vacation Channel).

Last year, during the National Harvest Festival, on the main square, my mom said: "Oh wow, look at all these nice scarecrows!" then Terry jumped out & scared her! It was hysterical!

He's the reason my sister is afraid of scarecrows!! He did that to her a while back at Celebration City. Everytime she see's a scarecrow now, she references that, haha!
