Title: Where the Red Fern Grows
Post by: KBCraig on April 29, 2011, 05:24:01 AM
I just watched the 1974 movie of Where the Red Fern Grows, for the first time since I saw it at the drive-in when I was 11.

Bawled my eyes out just like when I was 11.

Who else loves Old Dan and Lit'l Ann?

I recently found the DVD in the Wal Mart bargain bin and purchased it. Enjoyed it, too. Based on a book that took place in the Arkansas Ozarks. If I remember correctly, part of the film was shot in this general area.

Great movie that will take you back to a simpler time.  A lot like The Waltons tv series.

Not as good as the book - one of my childhood favorites.  The Osmond music just didn't fit the correct mood in the movie and really dates its making, rather than dating the setting.

My HS band director was in school when they made that movie.  He said one of the raccoons got loose and ran into their school.  From there it must have been like the Mississippi squirrel revival.

Many of the movie locations are in NE Oklahoma, and if you know where to look, you can see them.
