I finally caved in and created a facebook page for the site. I'm still thinking up ideas of what to do with it though. I'll probably create a couple of custom pages that pull in feeds from the latest posts and front page news stories so you guys can check the site from FB.
Other than that, what would you like to see on our Facebook page?
I'm not really sure, Steve. I really don't want all our discussions to be moved to Facebook.
I don't really anticipate much discussion migrating to Facebook. FB discussions are usually composed of shorter and much less organized messages than we share here. If anything, it will take away the posts by people who sign up just want to ask a single question, and posts by those who are too lazy to adhere to the rigor of a full forum. Hopefully it will drive a lot more quality discussion to the site.
Really, I just plan to update the FB wall whenever we have a news update (which will hopefully be more often this year).
Wow, a brand spanking new site! Don't think I've ever seen that before! Looks good. I am not a Facebook member but my wife is. So should I add things under her account, or start my own? I would like to submit many of my Flickr photos to your Facebook site if you are interested. I could give the diving bell stuff to you, and maybe we could start a photo album on brochures, pathfinders, and other promotional material. Perhaps a place for old snapshots, and so on. If you want to do short profiles on "lost" rides and attractions I'd be glad to help. You tell me what you need, and maybe in the next week or two I can put things together for you. Any help I can give, let me know!
Junior, most of the things you mentioned would probably do better added to this site than the FB page. I see the FB page really as a marketing tool to alert people to new things on the site, rather than a place to actually host content. Of course, if you want to add stuff there that's fine too.
I'm still working on upgrading the site so that everyone can easily add and manage their stuff here.
That's awesome! ;D
steve, facebook will be a good "complement" to this site!.. good idea... looking forward to seeing your other changes.
I agree the facebook page will give those people that lurk on the page, and maybe only have a question or comment a place to have their say or ask questions without having to go through the process of creating an account. I think anything we can do to make the site more visible is worth doing. Keep up the good work
Just joined the Facebook page! I can't believe how much I missed on the little hiatus :-[
welcome coaster! where ya been?
Life kept me busy and somethin was wrong with our internet to where I couldn't log on.
Thanks for the welcome back! It's great to be back!
everybody make sure you go to facebook and "like" sdcfans.
right now we only have 68 "likes"..
But sdcfans has over 425 members!
so lets do it!
Just bumping this topic back up. I still need to get a Facebook link on the site... among the many other things I need to do.
Btw, apparently the page will be forced into the new format at the end of March. I'm really not a fan of it. They want everything to look like a timeline now for some reason.
Ugh! I hate the timeline thing. I am sure many people out there enjoy it, but it is not for me. Keep up the great work Shave.

I wish they would stop changing things! I also hate the timeline!
timeline sux, and now they are suspending you if you send friend requests to people you dont know?? WTH?
How do they know if you know the person or not?
When someone tries to add you on Facebook, and you deny the request, Facebook will then ask if you actually know them in person, or not. I am not sure if that has anything to do with what sanddunerider is suggesting though.
Ok. That make sense.
